Top 30 shortstops in Southern Section high school baseball

From Villa Park's Gavin Grahovac to Orange Lutheran's Mikey Romero, the Southern Section is loaded with talented shortstops.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be taking a look at some of the top baseball players in the CIF Southern Section. We started behind the plate, and then moved to first base and second base. Now we're onto shortstops.

TOP 30 SHORTSTOPS IN SOUTHERN SECTION HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

Angelo Aleman - Maranatha - 2022 

Aleman is a Cal State Fullerton signee. 

Ty Borgogno - Ayala - 2022

Borgogno is a Long Beach State signee. He hit .309 this season and led Ayala with 20 stolen bases. 

Will Burns - Trabuco Hills - 2023 

Burns is one of the top MLB Draft prospects in the 2023 class nationally. The junior is committed to Texas Tech. 

Trent Caraway - JSerra - 2023

Caraway is committed to Oregon State. 

Abbrie Covarrubias - Cypress - 2023 

Covarrubias is committed to Long Beach State. He hit a triple in Cypress' 5-2 Division 1 Southern Section playoff win last week. 

Dean Curley - Northview - 2023

Curley captained Northview as a junior. He's committed to USC. 

Sam DeCarlo - Long Beach Millikan - 2022

DeCarlo leads Millikan with a .419 batting average, four home runs, 11 stolen bases, 35 runs, 36 hits, 27 RBI's and four triples. He's arguably had the biggest impact on his team of any player on the list. 

Gavin Fien - Great Oak - 2025

Fien, a University of Texas commit, is the lone freshman to make the list. He hit a home run and triple in his first season on varsity this year. He has a very bright future. 

Carter Garate - Murrieta Mesa - 2022

Garate is committed to the University of Oregon. He leads the Rams in batting average (.391), home runs (five), runs (23), hits (25), RBI's (18) and doubles (eight). 

Gavin Grahovac - Villa Park - 2023

Grahovac is another top MLB Draft prospect in the 2023 class. He's committed to Texas A&M. 

Kasen Khansarinia - San Dimas - 2024

Khansarinia is a UCLA commit. He scored 22 runs this season, which was good for third on the Saints roster. 

Cameron Kim - Norco - 2023 

Kim had a whopping 52 hits this season. He's committed to UCLA. 

Dylan Lina - St. John Bosco - 2022 

Lina is a San Jose State signee. After battling injuries for much of the season, he went 2-for-3 with two RBI's in St. John Bosco's 3-1 road win over Tesoro last month.

Roman Martin - Servite - 2023

Martin is committed to UCLA. Playing against some of the best competition in the state, he hit .491 for the Friars this season. Martin led Servite with 26 hits. 

Will Matuszak - Windward - 2023

Matuszak has pledged to play baseball at UC Santa Barbara. In a 9-5 win over Peninsula this season, he hit a two run home run and scored three total runs. 

Christian Miranda - Notre Dame - 2022 

Miranda bombed a three run shot in Notre Dame's 6-2 Division 1 Southern Section playoff win over El Dorado earlier this week. He's hitting .353 on the season with 30 hits. 

Corey Nunez - Torrance - 2022 

Nunez excels at the dish and on the mound for Torrance. The UC Santa Barbara signee was named the Daily Breeze Boys Athlete of the week last month after going 6 for 9 at the plate and pitching three scoreless innings in three Torrance wins. 

Christopher Paciolla - Temecula Valley - 2022

Paciolla hit .390 for Temecula Valley this season. The UCLA signee hit four home runs, which was the second most on the Golden Bears roster. He had 32 hits and nine doubles. 

Frankie Peralez - Bishop Amat - 2022

Peralez led Bishop Amat in hits this season with 24. He hit .364 on the season. 

Bryce Rainer - Harvard Westlake - 2024

Rainer plays third base this season for the Wolverines and he will most likely end up playing professionally as a pitcher, but he can play shortstop at a very high level as well. Rainer is hitting above .400 this season. He's committed to UCLA. 

Garren Rizzo - Palos Verdes - 2023

Rizzo is a University of Washington commit. He pitches and hits at a high level. The junior's posted a 0.33 ERA this season and he has 20 hits. 

Noah Rodriguez - La Mirada - 2022

Rodriguez is a UNLV signee. He finished second on La Mirada's roster this season with 28 hits. He also hit a team high three triples. 

Austen Roellig - Etiwanda - 2023

Roellig is bating .444 this season. The LSU commit has also stolen a team high 10 bases and scored a team high 30 runs. 

Mikey Romero - Orange Lutheran - 2022

The pool of California high school baseball players hoping to hear their names called in July's MLB Draft is small, but Romero is in it. The LSU commit should be selected in one of the first three rounds. He's hit .363 this season with four home runs and a team high 33 hits. 

Marcos Rosales - South Hills - 2023 

Rosales hit two home runs this season. The Cal State Fullerton commit led the Huskies with 31 hits and finished second on the team scoring 23 runs. 

Brady Schrank - Foothill - 2022

Schrank leads Foothill in batting average. He's hitting .412 this season and leads the team with 33 hits. Schrank is a Cal Poly signee. 

Levi Sterling - Notre Dame - 2024 

Notre Dame is so stacked that Sterling sometimes struggles to get on the field, but make no mistake, he's an elite prospect. Sterling is committed to the University of Texas and has hit .500 in the 11 games he's appeared in this season. 

Andrew Walters - Corona - 2022

Walters is a UCLA signee. 

Blake Wilson - Santa Margarita - 2023 

Wilson is a University of Washington commit. He started the month of April off on fire hitting two home runs and finishing with four RBI's in a 7-4 win over La Jolla Country Day. 

Brandon Winokur - Edison - 2023 

Winokur has pledged to play at UCLA. He hit six home runs this season.
