Final CIF Southern Regional 2023 boys volleyball playoff brackets: Loyola, El Segundo, Poway, Granite Hills takes titles
The brackets for the 2023 CIF Southern Regional playoffs proved true. At least in three of the four divisions.
Top seeds El Segundo (Division 2), Poway (D3) and Granite Hills (D4) all won championships last week over the five-day single-elimination tournaments.
The only slight surprise was at Division 1, where third-seed Loyola first upset second-seed Corona del Mar in three games during the semifinals, before knocking off top seed Newport Harbor, also via sweep, 25-19, 25-22, 25-18.
It wasn't a big upset, considering the Cubs won their first two matches at regionals via the sweep.
In D2, El Segundo won an instant classic against second seed Torrey Pines, storming back from a 2-1 deficit to win in five games, despite 27 kills from Torrey Pines' Christian Connell.
