LA City Section football playoffs; Quarterfinals roundup

Birmingham will host Carson and Garfield will host Gardena in the Open Division semifinals

The LA City Section played its high school football quarterfinals Thursday night due to Veteran's Day, which falls on Friday.

All divisions were in action, including the Open Division. Birmingham Charter's journey toward a fourth straight City crown is still intact after dominating its way to a 57-19 victory over Narbonne at home.

The No. 1-seeded Patriots will host Carson in the semifinals on Nov. 17. 

The Colts defeated Granada Hills 34-12 thanks to three rushing touchdowns from standout Jerry Misaalefua, who also returned a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Garfield's Damian Cornejo ran for more than 200 yards and three touchdowns in the Bulldog's 38-21 win over San Pedro, and Gardena edged Palisades 14-10 to setup the other semifinal: Gardena at Garfield.

DIVISION I

The Division I quarterfinals were riddled with drama.

Dymally 29, Dorsey 28: Dymally used a touchdown and two-point conversion in the final minute to avenge its regular-season loss to the Dons. Bryant Collins scored three touchdowns. Dymally will play a Banning in the semifinals.

Franklin 21, King/Drew 14: Benjamin Villareal ran for two touchdowns to lead the Panthers. Franklin will host Crenshaw in the semifinals.

Banning 28, Cleveland 14: The No. 1-seeded Pilots bottled up Cleveland wideout Kory Hall and running back Donovan Powell.

Crenshaw 49, Venice 24: The Cougars used a 13-0 fourth quarter to close the game.
