CIF-LA City Section girls basketball playoff brackets, pairings: Birmingham is top seed in Open Division

The last two Open Division girls basketball champions, Birmingham and Westchester, enter as the top overall seeds

It's time for playoff basketball in the CIF-Los Angeles City Section. With the regular season already behind us, the LACS announced its postseason brackets on Saturday afternoon, and the girls basketball playoffs begin on Thursday, Feb. 8 in Divisions 1-5.

In the Open Division, which tips off two days later (Saturday, Feb. 10), West Valley League champion Birmingham (21-6) earned the No. 1 seed for the first time in program history.

Also earning home games in the Open Division after winning league titles are Western League co-champions Westchester and Hamilton at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, and Coliseum League champion No. 4 King/Drew. The other heavyweights rounding out the Open Division are No. 5 Palisades, No. 6 Granada Hills Charter, No. 7 El Camino Real, and No. 8 Crenshaw.

In Division I, No. 1 Chatsworth, No. 2 Sun Valley Polytechnic, No. 3 Eagle Rock, and No. 4 Los Angeles earned first round byes and home games in the quarterfinals. Reigning Division II champion San Pedro is an X-factor with the No. 8 seed, and will host No. 9 San Fernando in round one.

Like in D1, the first four seeds in the remaining divisions also receive first round byes and home games in the quarterfinals. The top seed in each is Kennedy in Division II, University (Division III), Gardena (Division IV), and University Pathways Medical Magnet (Division V).
