Athenian uses a dominant second quarter to take home their first CIF State title
SACRAMENTO - The Athenian High School boys basketball team captured their first CIF State title on Friday afternoon, cruising past Verdugo Hills 67-49. The Owls led 36-20 at the half on their way to the Division 5 title.
Athenian senior guard Evan Lucas led the way with 20 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists while fellow senior Surya Deversenapathy added 15 points and five rebounds.
Head coach Jordan Boreman, in his fourth season with the Owls, talked postgame about the victory as well as the journey that wrapped up on Friday.
