The baseball playoffs have matched the best against the best in South Florida.

With each passing game, the stakes are higher with regional and state championship implications on the line.

SBLive Sports Florida is recognizing the top performances in our weekly South Florida Player of the Week poll.

This week, we highlight the players who have stepped up in regional action.

As always, the Player of the Week poll is intended to be fun, while also honoring the top performers from as many schools as possible.

Your votes will be based on performances for the week of May 8-13.

Here’s the list:

Paul Abolafia, Pembroke Pines Charter: In a regional quarterfinal upset of Eau Gallie, Abolafia threw a complete game, striking out nine in seven shutout innings.

Austin Bertsch, Sagemont: In a regional quarterfinal loss to Westminster Academy, Bertsch hit a home run and drove in two runs.

Jesus Garcia, Westminster Academy: In a regional quarterfinal win against Sagemont, Garcia had two hits and three RBIs.

Jendy Gonzalez, Miami Christian: The Victories received a big offensive performance from Gonzalez in their regional quarterfinal win over Brito. Gonzalez went 4-for-4 with a home run, double and two RBIs.

Johan Hidalgo, Miami Sunset: Sunset tripped up Jensen Beach, 5-4, in the regional quarterfinals, and Hidalgo is a reason why. In five innings, he gave up one run and struck out eight.

Spencer Krasner, American Heritage Plantation: The freshman left-hander was dominant in a 3-2 win against Pembroke Pines Charter in the regional quarterfinals. In 6 1/3 innings, Krasner gave up one run on just one hit and struck out 11.

Brixton Lofgren, Gulliver Prep: The Raiders upset top-seed Westminster Christian, 4-2, in the regional semifinals. Lofgren was the star of the game, tossing a seven-inning complete game, while allowing two runs on four hits, with 11 strikeouts.

Carlos Lugo, Calvary Christian Academy: In the Eagles’ 7-1 win against Monsignor Pace in the regional semifinals, Lugo gave up one run in five innings with seven strikeouts.

RJ MacHado, St. Thomas Aquinas: Even though St. Thomas was eliminated in the regional semifinals against Varela, MacHado had an impressive game, hitting two doubles, driving in a run and scoring a run.

Jeancarlo Martinez, Taravella: Martinez connected on a home run and drove in three runs for the Trojans in their 5-1 win against Western in the regional quarterfinals.

Lester Martinez, Columbus: The Explorers advanced to the regional finals after knocking off West Broward in the semifinals. Martinez had two hits and drove in three runs against the Bobcats.

Connor McShane, Archbishop McCarthy: The senior right-hander had little margin for error in the Mavericks’ 1-0 win in the regional quarterfinals against Mater Academy. McShane, in six innings, didn’t allow a run, and struck out 10 while giving up just two hits.

Matt Ossenfort, Marjory Stoneman Douglas: In the regional semifinal win over Taravella, Ossenfort connected on a grand slam in an eight-run first inning. The left-handed hitting first baseman added a two-run homer in the game, as an single. He finished the day with six RBIs.

Kevin Pereraarellano, Miami Springs: Springs defeated Cardinal Gibbons, 5-2, in the regional quarterfinal. Pereraarellano had a double, two hits and he drove in three runs.

Daniel Restrepo, Doral Academy: Restrepo had a night to remember in the Firebirds’ 12-1 rout over Varela in the regional semifinals. Restrepo had two home runs, three hits, and drove in eight runs.

Jensen Seculer, North Broward Prep: The Eagles blanked Cocoa Beach, 5-0, in the regional quarterfinal. Seculer threw a seven-inning, shutout, giving up one run with 10 strikeouts.

Brendan Trujillo, Cardinal Gibbons: In a 5-2 loss to Miami Springs in the regional quarterfinals, Trujillo had four hits, including a double, and he drove in two runs.

Jason Wachs, West Broward: The Bobcats rallied from four runs down in the regional quarterfinals to beat South Dade, 6-5. Wachs had a double and three RBIs, and he threw three innings, striking out three.
