Vote Now: Who should be SBLive’s Central Florida Girls Basketball Player of the Week (1/1/2024)

Central Florida girls’ basketball stars were shining during the final week of 2023. And, now they hope to radiate even brighter in 2024.

We looked at teams from Orange, Osceola, Lake, Seminole, Volusia, Brevard, and Indian River counties and nominated nine athletes for the SBLive Central Florida Girls Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 25-30, 2023.

We ask you, the fan, to decide who should the top player selected. Voting will conclude on Sunday, Jan. 6, at 11:59pm and will be announced in next week’s poll.


Last week’s winner: SBLive congratulates Horizon (Winter Garden) sophomore guard Zoe Corjay for winning Central Florida Girls Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 18-23, 2023.


Editor’s note: Our corresponding poll is intended to be fun, and we do not set limits on how many times a fan can vote during the competition. The poll is specifically for fans to vote on the players that have been nominated and in no way discredits any other player that may not be mentioned in our poll.

Here are this week's nominees:

Senaia Asanya, Power Forward/Center, Wekiva (Apopka): Talented 6-foot sophomore recorded 15 points and five rebounds to lead the Mustangs past Holy Trinity Episcopal (Melbourne), 34-31.

Camila Depool, Guard, Lake Highland Prep (Orlando): Senior scored 20 points in a 72-62 loss to IMG Academy (Bradenton) in the Tampa Bay Invitational.

Jaloni Cambridge, Point Guard, Montverde Academy: The senior from Nashville erupted for 36 points to lead the Eagles past Clarksville (Tenn.), 78-42, in the Music City Hoopfest in Nashville.

McKenna Murphy, Guard, Boone (Orlando): Talented senior poured in 26 points to lead the Braves past Hillard Darby (Ky.), 51-43, in the KSA Holiday Tournament at Gaylord Palms. She also had 16 points in a 51-22 win against St. Thomas More (La.).

Samantha Childs, Guard, Winter Park: Senior scored 12 points to lead the Wildcats past Eau Gallie (Melbourne), 35-33 in the fifth-place game of the White Bracket of the KSA Holiday Tournament at Gaylord Palms. She also scored 10 points and hauled down five rebounds in a 36-33 victory against Oviedo.

Rachel Charles, Guard, Freedom (Orlando): Senior poured in 23 points to lead the Patriots past DeSoto, 53-35, in the Chick-Fil-A Classic at Bradenton Christian School.

Saige McCloud, Small Forward, Leesburg: Junior scored 22 points to lead the Yellow Jackets past Deerfield Beach, 46-27. She also had 14 points in a 34-32 win against Central Florida Christian Academy (Ocoee).

Anovia Sheals, Forward, Mainland (Daytona Beach): Senior poured in 23 points to lead the Bucs past Laconia (Rosendale, Wisc.), 61-49.

Yanja Lawson, Power Forward, Spruce Creek (Port Orange): The talented 5-11 senior recorded 21 points and 15 rebounds for a double-double and added six steals to lead the Hawks past Ezell-Harding Christian (Antioch, Tenn.), 59-50.
