Every Monday during the football season, Scorebook Live California reporter Bodie De Silva highlights the top performers and the most intriguing storylines in San Diego Section high school football.

Notable Results

The injury bug has hit hard in San Diego the last couple
weeks. Each of the county’s top three teams have each had an important player
go down recently. Helix star running back Elelyon Noa went down with an injury
against El Capitan, though it had been unclear how much time he would miss. It
was announced this weekend that Noa underwent surgery on his foot that will end
one of the best high school careers that San Diego has seen. Over his four-year
varsity career Noa ran for 5,830 yards and scored 58 touchdowns for the
Highlanders.

In Friday’s Holy Bowl St. Augustine defensive back Tyson McWilliams dove to make a tackle in the 2nd quarter and then laid on the turf for some time while the trainers assisted him. A separated shoulder ended the night for McWilliams but isn’t expected to end his season for the Saints. In that same game Cathedral quarterback DJ Ralph went down with an injury to his right shoulder and was forced into wearing a sling from the sidelines for the duration. With the playoffs only three weeks away it will be important to see which teams have replacements capable of stepping up.

Santana had been rolling through the season in the first
eight weeks but received a significant shock in week nine when they traveled to
Monte Vista for a Grossmont – Valley league game. The Monarchs jumped on them
quickly holding a 17-7 halftime lead and added on in the 4th quarter
on their way to ending Santana’s perfect season, 37-10. The Sultans have a bye
week this upcoming week to prepare for El Cajon Valley and most importantly get
set for a run in the division four playoffs.
