Top player from each 2019 CIF San Diego Section football finalist
With the CIF San Diego Section football championship games scheduled for this weekend, we're taking a look at the top player from each team. The list is in alphabetical order.
Trevor Brokowski – RB/DB – Francis Parker
One of several Lancers who play both ways, Brokowski is
Parker’s leading rushing and also has three interceptions, three forced fumbles,
and two blocked kicks. He’ll look to replicate his performance against Castle
Park as Parker looks to avenge their earlier loss.
Tyler Buchner – QB – Bishop’s
Very few players in the country can come close to the video game numbers that Buchner has posted this season. The Notre Dame commit has accounted for 73 touchdowns while leading the Knights to a 12-0 record.
Nicholas Gardinera – RB – Scripps Ranch
The junior running back has run for over 100 yards in eleven straight games and has scored eight touchdowns in the last two weeks. He poses a big problem for the La Jolla defense.
Erik Hernandez – RB – Castle Park
The leader of the Trojans rushing attack, he’s run for multiple
touchdowns in seven games this season including a season high in the first
matchup against Francis Parker.
Keoni Lamoreaux – LB – Serra
Lamoreaux had an incredibly productive season that saw him total
113 tackles, eight sacks, and four forced fumbles. He’ll need to make his mark
as the Conquistadors look for revenge against Santana.
Keyshawn Smith – WR – Lincoln
One of San Diego’s top receivers, Smith has shifted roles in recent weeks and rushed for three touchdowns over the past two games.
Max Smith – ATH – La Jolla
Smith has played a big role for the Vikings on both sides of
the ball. He’s rushed for seven touchdowns on offense and grabbed five
interceptions on defense and will need a huge effort to help La Jolla take down
Scripps Ranch.
Nathan Temple – QB – Santana
Temple has posted great numbers and largely avoided turnovers
over the past two seasons. He’ll need to continue that trend against a surging
Serra defense.
Isaac Tinoisamoa – OL/DL – El Camino
The two-way lineman is a big time run stopper and will be a big key to El Camino’s chances against Bishop’s.
Kavika Tua – RB – Oceanside
Always a threat to break a long run, Tua has surpassed 2,000 rushing yards this season and is sure to have the attention of Lincoln’s defense.
