Scorebook Live's 2019 All-L.A. County high school football teams

Here are Scorebook Live's All-Los Angeles County high school football teams for the 2019 season. 

The teams — first team, second team, third team and honorable mentions — were compiled by Scorebook Live reporters Connor Morrissette and Lance Smith.

Offensive Player of the Year: QB DJ Uiagalelei – St. John Bosco – SR.

Already a new Clemson Tiger, Uiagalelei threw for 4,225 yards and 48 touchdowns en-route to St. John Bosco's national championships. With 64.5% completion and only two interceptions, he finished with a massive passer rating of 144.2 while also running for 412 yards and eight touchdowns.

Defensive Player of the Year: Kobe Pepe – St. John Bosco – SR.

The USC-commit led Bosco in tackles (80), tackles for loss (12.5), and sacks (11). He was central to both the Braves' pass-rushing attack and elite run-stuffing ability. For his efforts he was given honors as the Trinity League's top defensive lineman.

Lineman of the Year: Drake Metcalf – St. John Bosco – SR.

Metcalf has received numerous All-American awards as the top offensive lineman on arguably the best O-line in the country. The 4-star commit will next play for Stanford.

All-Purpose Player of the Year: DJ Harvey – Sierra Canyon – JR.

Harvey was an All-American-caliber cornerback who also caught 84 passes for 1,465 yards and seven touchdowns for the CIF 1-AA finalist. In addition to his four interceptions and 25 passes defensed on defense and huge production on offense, he totaled a whopping 581 yards as a kick/punt returner.

Next year Sierra Canyon will likely be back in the hunt for a Division 1 state title, and Harvey will likely contend for status as the best three-phase high school football player in the country.

FIRST TEAM OFFENSE

QB: Miller Moss – Alemany – JR.

Moss was awarded the Mission League Co-Offensive MVP for his 3,118 passing yards with 28 passing TDs and over 67% completion. The 4-star recruit has at least 18 offers.

RB: Damien Moore – Bishop Amat – SR.

Moore was the overall MVP of the Mission League and our OPOY runner-up. Next season he will play at Cal.

RB: Davon Booth – El Monte – SR.

Booth led California in rushing yards in 2019 by a huge margin with 2,935, plus 36 rushing TDs, 627 receiving yards and ten receiving TDs to boot. In fact, he led the entire country in total points factoring in all types of touchdowns and two-point conversions.

He did it on 12.6 yards per carry, which is crazy given that El Monte almost only runs the ball and defenses are keyed in on him at all times. All the while standing out as one of the better defensive backs in the San Gabriel Valley.

WR: Kris Hutson – St. John Bosco – SR.

Hutson was the Braves' top downfield threat with 1,290 receiving yards and 15 receiving touchdowns on the year. He also finished with a massive 385 kick-returning yards and a KR touchdown.

WR: Chris Miller – Culver City – SR.

With 1,521 receiving yards and 24 receiving touchdowns, Miller was the most prolific WR in L.A. County. He also did good work at DB in limited minutes.

TE: A.J. Salgado – Glendora – SR.

Salgado was Glendora's second-leading receiving threat as a tight end and First Team All-Palomares League. He finished with 441 receiving yards and ten receiving TDs.

OL: James Maae – Long Beach Poly – SR.

Maae was the Moore League Offensive Lineman of the Year and also had nine tackles for loss in limited action as a defensive lineman. He has several D-1 offers and could potentially see minutes on both sides of the trench in college.

OL: Edward Riley – St. John Bosco – JR.

Riley was another elite blocker on St. John Bosco's elite offensive line and a First Team All-Trinity League selection.

OL: Earnest Greene – St. John Bosco – SO.

The 4-star OT has been given sophomore All-American honors as yet another standout O-lineman for the Braves. He currently holds upwards of a dozen college offers.

OL: Che Womack – St. John Bosco – SR.

Womack was yet another dominant O-lineman on St. John Bosco. The University of San Diego-commit has been recognized as one of the better O-linemen in the entire country by numerous outlets.

OL: Campbell McHarg – Calabasas – JR.

For the second year in a row, McHarg was one of the Southern Section's top O-lineman before his senior year. He anchored a strong Calabasas offensive line and was given First Team All-Marmonte League honors.

FIRST TEAM DEFENSE

DL: LeShaun Bell – Calabasas – SR.

The Marmonte League Defensive Lineman of the Year recently committed to UNLV over ten or more other schools. With outstanding athleticism for a 6-3, 250-pound defensive lineman, Bell is the prototypical WDE, with a strong knack for edge-rushing the pass and also a gift for chasing down running backs in space.

DL: Ethan Rodriguez – Bishop Amat – SR.

Rodriguez was named the Mission League Defensive MVP. He was one of the most dominant pass-rushers in SoCal. The three-star recruit currently has three D-1 offers but is still one of the most underrated recruits in SoCal.

DL: Nate Burrell – St. John Bosco – SO.

As just a sophomore, Burrell was one of the top defensive linemen in the Southern Section and played a huge role in St. John Bosco's national championship. He made 58 tackles and was second on Bosco with nine TFLs and 6.5 sacks, in addition to a fumble recovery. He also had of the biggest defensive plays of the year with a crucial interception of Bryce Young in the Braves' comeback victory in the Southern Section Division 1 championship game. Burrell currently has six D-1 offers.

DL: Matthew Jordan – St. John Bosco – SR.

Jordan had 65 tackles, eight TFLs, 3.5 sacks, four passes defensed, and a fumble recovered for a 97-yard touchdown. He was awarded First Team All-Trinity League honors and is sitting on at least five college offers.

LB: Ma'a Gaoteote – St. John Bosco – JR.

The high-4-star recruit and USC-commit was named First Team All-Trinity League for his 61 tackles, eight TFLs, three sacks, and forced fumble. Next year he will likely be considered a preseason All-American by many.

LB: Kourt Williams – St. John Bosco – SR.

The other half of one of the best OLB units in the country, Williams also finished with 61 tackles. That was in addition to five TFLs, a sack, four passes defensed, a fumble recovery, and a forced fumble. The 4-star prospect signed with Ohio State over more than 20 other schools.

LB: JD Hernandez – Sierra Canyon – SR.

Hernandez anchored Sierra Canyon's staunch defense with 128 tackles, five TFLs, and five sacks. He is one of the best linebackers in SoCal not yet committed to play college ball.

DB: JonJon Vaughns – St. John Bosco – SR.

Vaughns had 64 tackles, five TFLs, a pick, three passes defensed, a fumble recovered, and a fumble forced for the national champion. The 4-star recruit received First Team All-Trinity League honors and is signed with UCLA.

DB: Ceyair Wright – Loyola – JR.

Wright is a 4-star CB/ATH with 15 offers including almost every Pac-12 power, Nebraska, and Notre Dame. He finished with 52 tackles, three interceptions, seven passes defensed, a forced fumble, and a lot of opposing receivers going home disappointed. He also finished with 280 KR/PR yards and a KR touchdown.

DB: Mason White – Birmingham – SR.

A nationally-ranked DB prospect with multiple D-1 offers, White was one of the top all-purpose players in the L.A. City Section. In addition to three interceptions, he somehow led his team with seven tackles for loss (tied) as a cornerback. On offense he caught for 660 yards and seven touchdowns. As a special teamer, he finished with 100 returning yards, a blocked punt, and an unbelievable four blocked field goals.

DB: Kade Jones – South (Torrance) – JR.

Jones put up ridiculous numbers as a junior en-route to South's state title appearance: 100 tackles, four TFLs, 11 interceptions (four pick-sixes), 17 passes defensed, and two fumble recoveries. With 884 receiving yards, ten receiving TDs, and 543 KR/PR yards to boot, he had one of the best three-phase seasons in SoCal.

SECOND TEAM OFFENSE:

QB: Chayden Peery – Sierra Canyon – JR.

En-route to Sierra Canyon's state finals appearance, Peery threw for over 3,400 yards on over 60% completion with 18 touchdowns to only one pick. He also ran for 148 yards and five touchdowns. The 3-star prospect has at least four offers including Arizona State and will likely contend for status as the top QB in the Southern Section next year.

RB: Willy Camacho – Chaminade – SR.

Camacho was named the co-offensive MVP of the Mission League. He racked up 1,105 rushing yards, 19 rushing TDs, 541 receiving yards, and five receiving touchdowns. He's one of the county's best unsigned offensive threats in the C/O 2020.

RB: Isaiah Creech -- Highland -- SR.

The best player on state finalist Highland, Creech was another candidate for all-purpose player of the year. On offense, he ran for a staggering 2,150 yards and 29 touchdowns on a lofty 9.9 yards per carry. He also caught for 477 yards and eight touchdowns. On defense, he totaled 76 tackles, 17 TFLs, two sacks, three interceptions, six passes defensed, two fumble recoveries, two fumbles forced, and two blocked punts.

WR: Johnny Wilson – Calabasas – SR.

Wilson was the Marmonte League Receiver of the Year and chose Arizona State over more than 30 other offers.

WR/RB:JD Sumlin – Sierra Canyon – JR.

Sumlin could be a full-time running back, slot receiver, or running back, but he did a combination of all three for the state finalist. He's listed as a WR but ran for 990 yards and 14 touchdowns, both team-highs, in addition to 528 receiving yards and three receiving TDs. He also plays cornerback at times. Sumlin has already been offered at the D-1 level, but expect his recruiting to take off quite a bit more next year assuming Sierra Canyon is playing at a similar level.

TE: Brendan Pernecky – Loyola – SR.

Pernecky was First Team All-Mission League last year and recently committed to Duke. In only nine games for the Cubs he caught for 185 yards and was one of the best run-blocking tight ends in SoCal.

OL: Logan Bednar – St. John Bosco – SR.

The 3-star offensive lineman was yet another standout offensive lineman for national champion St. John Bosco and is committed to Harvard.

OL: Brian Oney – Chaminade – SR.

One of the top unsigned senior offensive linemen in SoCal, Oney was a key contributor to Chaminade's Division 2 title game run and a First Team All-Mission League member. He is currently sitting on multiple D-1 offers.

OL: Michael Alarcon – Bishop Amat – SR.

Alarcon was First Team All-Trinity League and is one of the most underrated college recruits at OL in the Southern Section.

OL: Johnathan Arellano – Alemany – SR.

Arellano was also First Team All-Trinity League and is another underrated college prospect at guard. He most recently received an offer from Linfield.

OL: Matt Rodriguez – San Pedro – SR.

Rodriguez was arguably the best offensive lineman in the L.A. City Section in 2019.

SECOND TEAM DEFENSE:

DL: Jerry Ahching – Paramount – SR.

With 89 tackles, 18 TFLs, 7.5 sacks, and a team-high 12 QB-hurries, Ahching was awarded the San Gabriel Valley League Defensive Player of the Year.

DL: Elijah Ponder – Bishop Amat

Ponder was named the Mission League Defensive Lineman of the Year. He's currently sitting on at least four college offers.

DL: Darius Wilson – Highland – SR.

One of the centerpieces of Highland's dominant front seven, Wilson totaled 92 tackles and led the Bulldogs with a massive 41 TFLs, 12 sacks, and ten QB-hurries.

DL: Tuli Tuipulotu – Lawndale – SR.

Tuipulotu was the best defensive lineman in the Ocean League and is a future USC Trojan.

LB: Sebastian Deleon – Crescenta Valley – JR.

The top star on undefeated Southern Section Division 10 champion Crescenta Valley, Deleon led the Falcons with 163 tackles and 23 TFLs. He also had 5.5 sacks, a pick, and six passes defensed. To top it off, he spent quite a bit of time both running and receiving the ball, totaling 581 yards and a team-high 15 touchdowns (tied). Next season he will enter his senior year as one of the most under-the-radar elite football players in the Southern Section.

LB: Steven Arellano – Loyola – SR.

Arellano finished 2019 with an incredible 177 tackles. The Southern Section Division 4 Defensive co-MVP recently got an offer from Chicago.

LB: Lando Brown – Gardena Serra – JR.

Yet another underrated Southern Section linebacker coming off a monster year, Brown totaled 99 tackles, 29 TFLs, and a monstrous 19 sacks in 11 games for Serra–all team highs. He also forced two fumbles. The South Bay DPOY will enter next season as one of the top linebackers in SoCal and is overdue for his recruiting to take off.

DB: Makell Esteen – Lawndale – SR.

The 3-star safety had another dominant season for the Cardinals. He chose Washington out of 14 D-1 offers.

DB: Jake Newman – St. John Bosco – SR.

Newman was second on the Braves with 77 tackles, and also recorded three interceptions, seven passes defensed, and a forced fumble. The 3-star prospect and UCLA-commit was one of the most underrated defensive players in the Southern Section and a major key to Bosco's state championship run.

DB: John Humphrey – Muir – SR.

The 3-star CB had double-digit offers and is now enrolled at UCLA. He finished the season with six interceptions, five passes defensed, and a forced fumble. Humphrey was also a big contributor at wide receiver, with 538 receiving yards and a team-high 12 receiving TDs. Additionally, he racked up 238 KR yards.

DB: Dyson McCutcheon – Bishop Amat – JR.

The First Team All-Mission League cornerback currently has over ten D-1 offers, most recently from USC.

THIRD TEAM OFFENSE:

QB: Jaden Casey – Calabasas – SR.

Casey was named the co-MVP of the Marmonte League. The 3-star recruit received over 20 offers and is committed to Cal.

RB: Xzavier Ford – Glendora – SR.

The Palomares League MVP rushed for 1,567 yards and 18 touchdowns and has a handful of D-1 offers.

RB: Stephen Bradford – North (Torrance) – SR.

Bradford amassed over 2,000 rushing yards and roughly 2,300 all-purpose yards en-route to North's CIFSS Division 9 championship appearance. He also had strong work at cornerback which included four picks and two pick-sixes.

WR: Beaux Collins – St. John Bosco – JR.

One of the top wide receivers in the C/O 2021 and a likely preseason All-American candidate next year, Collins had over 1,000 receiving yards and 14 receiving touchdowns for the national champion. He just committed to Clemson over more than 30 other offers.

WR: Jermaine Burton – Calabasas – SR.

Burton was First Team All-Marmonte League and one of the top wide receiver prospects in the C/O 2020. He chose Georgia out of 20 offers.

WR: Kyle Williams – Santa Monica – SR.

Williams was among California's leaders in receiving yards per game and finished with roughly 2,100 all-purpose yards. He has several college offers, most recently from UNLV, and could potentially play wide receiver, quarterback, defensive back, and special teams all at the next level.

OL: Rolan Fullwood – Lawndale – JR.

A 6-5, 305 guard, Fullwood was a huge part (literally) of Lawndale's physically-dominant wishbone offense and has been offered by USC.

OL: Quintin Lyons – Notre Dame Sherman Oaks – SR.

Lyons was a First Team All-Mission League honoree.

OL: Nick Kinch – Calabasas – SR.

Kinch was named First Team All-Marmonte League and has multiple college offers.

OL: Joseph Silva – Venice – SR.

Silva was one of the top offensive lineman in the L.A. City Section. An outstanding run-blocker, he was a perfect fit for Venice.

OL: Ramon Ramirez – El Monte – SR.

Speaking of run-blocking, Ramon Ramirez was one of the best in L.A. County for double-wing extraordinaire and undefeated state champion El Monte.

THIRD TEAM DEFENSE:

DL: Owen Hand – Valencia – SR.

Hand won the West Valley League Lineman of the Year for his strong work as a DL/LB hybrid.

DL: Jackson White – Crespi – SR.

White finished with 93 tackles, 11 TFLs, 16.5 sacks, and six QB-hurries in 2019. He currently has at least D-1 offer.

DL: Jacob Tuioti – Long Beach Poly – JR.

Tuioti was named the Moore League Defensive Player of the Year as a junior for his 61 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, five sacks, and ten QB-hurries in 11 games.

LB: Drue Watts – Sierra Canyon – JR.

Watts had an outstanding junior year in Sierra Canyon's dominant linebacking corps, and came on especially strong down the stretch and in the playoffs. He led the team with 131 tackles in addition to 15 TFLs, four sacks, six QB-hurries, six passes defensed, and a forced fumble.

LB: Bryun Parham – Long Beach Poly – JR.

The 3-star prospect made First Team All-Moore League as a senior with a team-high 102 tackles. He also had 24 TFLs, eight sacks, four passes defensed, three forced fumbles, and a blocked punt.

LB: Bryce Buchanan – West Ranch – SR.

Buchanan put up ridiculous numbers as a senior, with 166 tackles, 38 tackles for loss, and four sacks.

DB: Isaac Gallegos – Chaminade – SR.

Gallegos was in very rare air for a Southern Section safety with 144 tackles and 12 tackles for loss. He was named First Team All-Mission League.

DB: Devyn King – Gardena Serra – SR.

King was First Team All-Mission League and signed with Maryland over a dozen other schools. He was one of the top lock-down corners in the Southern Section.

DB: Lamont Narcisse – Calabasas – SR.

The Marmonte League co-Defensive Back of the Year currently has six college offers including Washington State, Colorado State, and Columbia.

DB: Elijah Jackson – Lawndale – JR.

The high-3-star is committed to Washington.

ALL-PURPOSE & SPECIAL TEAMS:

K: Josh Bryan – Sierra Canyon – JR.

With 54 PATs and 11 field goals on the year, Bryan averaged 5.4 kicking points per game.

P: Jack Stonehouse – Chaminade – JR.

Stonehouse was only asked to punt a small handful of times on the season, but he averaged 44.8 yards per punt when it was time.

Returner/AP: Trenell Ridgley – St. Paul

The Del Rey League MVP was a star at running back, a standout at cornerback, and the best returner in the Southern Section. He ran for over 1,300 yards and 13 touchdowns, caught for 131, had a combined 749 returning yards and five returning touchdowns, and 50 tackles and two picks on defense. Overall, he had over 2,300 total yards and 21 touchdowns.

WR/K: Logan Loya – St. John Bosco – SR.

Loya led St. John Bosco with 72 receptions and was second with 1,109 receiving yards in addition to nine receiving touchdowns. He also had strong work as both a kicker and returner on special teams. The 4-star recruit committed to UCLA over a dozen other offers.

RB/DB: Johnathan Kaelin – Golden Valley – SR.

The Foothill League MVP ran for 1,254 yards and 18 touchdowns on over ten yards per carry. He also caught for 301 yards and three touchdowns. Kaelin also had 273 yards as a returner and strong work in rotation minutes at DB.

Joshua Ward – San Pedro – SR.

The City Section Player of the Year and future UC Davis Aggie was a star at both running back and linebacker in addition to 234 KR yards. He ran for 1,061 yards and 19 touchdowns, caught for 158 yards and a touchdown, and led the Pirates with 106 tackles and 15 TFLs. He also had four sacks.

Montana Lemonious-Craig – Inglewood – SR.

The future Colorado Buffalo caught for 1,289 yards and 23 touchdowns as a star wide receiver. At safety, he registered 66 tackles, five of which came for loss, six interceptions, and four passes defensed.

Zachary Van Bennekum – West Ranch – SR.

Van Bennekum is another all-purpose honoree who had too good of a two-way season to go unnoticed. He was arguably West Ranch's top receiving threat with 60 receptions, 736 yards, and 12 touchdowns at WR/TE, and as a MLB totaled 98 tackles, 19 TFLs, three sacks, six interceptions, two fumble recoveries, a blocked punt, and a blocked field goal.

Sean Guyton – Notre Dame Sherman Oaks – SR.

Guyton was one of the Knights' top receivers, an outstanding cornerback, and an elite KR with 383 kick returning yards. He could potentially do all three at the D-1 level.

Joey Bustos – La Serna – SR.

Bustos was one of the best linebackers in the Southern Section with 140 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, three sacks, four passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and six QB-hurries for La Serna. He was also a standout fullback with 359 rushing yards and eight rushing TDs.

Calen Bullock – Muir – JR.

A 3-star WR prospect with 15 D-1 offers, Bullock led the Mustangs with both 914 receiving yards and six interceptions (tied) as a safety.

Cade Marshman – Glendora – SR.

The Palomares League Athlete of the Year was a true three-phase standout.

As a wide receiver, he led the Tartans with 1,136 receiving yards, 15 receiving TDs, and 71 receptions. As a defensive back he led Glendora with three interceptions and four passes defensed. And as a special teams star, he totaled a combined 565 returning yards and three touchdowns. Marshman is committed to Azusa Pacific University for baseball, but perhaps they'd be well-served adding him as an ATH for football too.

Dominic Arango-Serna – Canoga Park – SO.

One of the top two-way players in the City Section as an underclassman, Arango-Serna caught for 1,341 yards and 15 touchdowns at wide receiver and snagged five interceptions as a standout defensive back.

Cade Bargar -- South (Torrance) -- SR.

Bargar did just about anything and everything for the state championship finalist South.

He racked up 14 touchdowns and over 1,000 yards at WR, 199 yards and eight touchdowns rushing, 271 yards as a special teams returner, and 130 tackles, 18 TFLs, three sacks, six QB-hurries, three interceptions, five passes defensed, two fumbles recovered, three forced fumbles, and a blocked punt at linebacker.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

QB: Jaylen Henderson – Chaminade – JR.

With over 3,300 total yards of offense, Henderson was perhaps biggest snub from the list and had a strong case to make one of the teams. It should be noted that he was one of the top offensive players in L.A. County regardless, and could very well contend for status as the top QB in the Southern Section next season.

QB: Jared Heywood – Inglewood – SR.

QB: Jalon Daniels – Lawndale – SR.

QB: Walker Eget – West Ranch – JR.

QB: C.J. Montes – Paraclete – JR.
