DE Curtis Weaver drafted by Miami Dolphins in fifth round of 2020 NFL Draft

Former St. Anthony (Long Beach) star Curtis Weaver was drafted in the fifth round by the Miami Dolphins. He was selected 164th overall.

Numerous mock drafts predicted Weaver to be drafted in the second round at no. 54 overall to the Buffalo Bills. Others had him going in the mid-to-late third round.

Weaver was a 3-star prospect coming out of St. Anthony and had 12 offers. He made 42 tackles in only nine games as a high school senior, but finished with 52 tackles, 17 TFL's, seven sacks, two forced fumbles, and two blocked field goals in 13 games as a junior.

The skinny: Weaver is 6-foot-3, 265 pounds, and broke out as a redshirt freshman in 2017 as the Mountain West's leader in sacks (11). He was named a First Team Freshman All-American that fall and a First Team All-Mountain West honoree in both 2017 and 2018. As a redshirt junior in 2019, he led the Mountain West in both sacks (13.5) and tackles for loss (18.5), winning Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year and nine All-American honors. Lastly, he became the Mountain West's all-time sacks leader with 34 in only three seasons.
