Here’s a look at the best high school football teams in the CIF Central Coast Section heading into summer 2020.

With the hope of a 2020 California high school football season on the horizon, we’re taking a way-too-early look at the top teams in the state of California, section by section.

The major caveat with our way-too-early rankings is we still don’t know how COVID-19 will impact the 2020 season, and we don’t know when the season will start.

But we’re hopeful. And with that in mind, let’s talk some football. Here’s a look at the best high school football teams in the CIF Central Coast Section heading into summer 2020.

SBLIVE’S WAY-TOO-EARLY CENTRAL COAST SECTION TOP 10

1. Serra (San Mateo)

The Padres came up just short of a CIF State title last season against Corona Del Mar. Dominique Lampkin steps in at quarterback after part-time duty as a sophomore. Linebacker Fynn Williams returns as the Padres leading tackler.

2. Valley Christian

The Warriors' two losses last season came in the form of shutouts against Serra. Running back Chase Laubach returns after coming up just shy of a 1,000 yards last season. He’s joined by wide receiver Jurrion Dickey, who’s established himself as one of California’s top rising sophomores.

3. Menlo-Atherton

The Bears were undefeated league champions last season and should expect even more success in 2020. Quarterback Matt MacLeod returns after an excellent sophomore season. He’s joined by two of California’s best receivers in Troy Franklin and Jalen Moss.

4. Los Gatos

Los Gatos came up a game short of a CIF State championship appearance in 2019. Running back Adam Garwood returns after rushing for over 1,200 yards and 20 touchdowns as a junior. Linebacker Will Schweitzer had 130 tackles and three interceptions last season and recently committed to Nebraska.

5. Half Moon Bay

Tristan Hoffman returns after rushing for 1,200 yards, 22 touchdowns and leading the Cougars with 104 tackles. Their lone loss in 2019 came against Serra in the division one playoffs.

6. St. Ignatius

The Wildcats were able to take down Serra last season to force a three-way tie in the West Catholic League. The offensive and defensive lines are expected to be their strengths in 2020.

7. Saint Francis

The Lancers took their lumps last season against a loaded schedule but return their top four rushers and top four tacklers in 2020.

8. Wilcox

The Chargers ran through league play undefeated last season before falling to Serra in the division one semifinals. They’ll need newcomers to step up after losing their quarterback, top six rushers, and top two receivers.

9. Archbishop Mitty

The Monarchs were up and down in 2019, ending the season with three straight losses. They’ll have to work in a new quarterback in 2020 but return their leading rusher in Zach Tabangcura and their top three receivers led by Reymello Murphy.
