St. Francis edges Galloway in OT; wins GHSA Class A-D1 girls basketball states
MACON, GEORGIA – Giaunni Rogers, who scored a team-high 19 points, broke a 66-66 tie in overtime with a pair of free throws and Nya Young hit a clutch 3-pointer minutes later as St. Francis outlast Galloway, 74-71, to win the GHSA Class Division Girls Basketball State Championship, Saturday at the Macon Centerplex.
Despite the victory, the Knights had their hands full all afternoon with Galloway's Tianna Thompson who poured in a game-high 37 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, handed out 5 assists and added 2 blocks and 3 steals.
Rogers, who did not start, was just 6-of-15 from the floor, but three of her field goals came from beyond the 3-point arc and she went a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line to help lead the Knights to the state title.
The St. Francis Knights are the 2023-24 GHSA Class A-Division 1 girls basketball state champions after outlasting Galloway, 74-71, in overtime in Saturday's state championship game.
Young finished with 13 points while Sa'Mya Wyatt and Amelia Basit combined for 22 points. Basit had a team-high 11 rebounds to complete a double-double. In addition, Camry Golston contributed 8 points and 5 assist, while Desi Taylor scored 6 point, collected 7 rebounds and dished out 5 assists.
Sophia Louis-Pierre also had a tremendous performance for the Scots, scoring 18 points, delivering a pair of assists, blocking a shot and coming up with 2 steals.
