Here are the candidates for SBLive's Illinois High School Athlete of the Week as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff.

Nic Altobelli, Andrew baseball

A senior, Altobelli led the way for the Andrew offense during their 11-1 victory over McHenry in five innings. The St. Xavier recruit had four hits and three RBIs to lead the Thunderbolts.

Luke Bafia, Benet baseball

The Redwings traveled to Myrtle Beach to play in the Ripken Experience and Bafia performed well on the big stage. In a game against Erie (PA), the senior was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, three runs scored, and three RBIs as Benet won 14-7 in 8 innings.

Ryan Bakes, Huntley baseball

Bakes provided Huntley with all of the offense needed in their 1-0 victory over Maine South on Tuesday. The senior's third-inning solo home run was the difference.

Anthony Estrada, St. Charles North baseball

Estrada was a part of an impressive North Star offensive effort as they defeated Prospect 7-3. The 6-foot-5 senior was 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.

Grace Gerdes-Grabowy, St. Viator softball

The Lions traveled to Murfreesboro, TN to play five games. Gerdes-Grabowy pitched her way to a 2-1 record while recording seven hits to help lead the offensive attack.

Kyle Hartmann, Sycamore baseball

Hartmann led the offensive outburst for Sycamore in their 15-0 victory over Harlem on Monday. The junior was 3-for-3 with three homers and six RBIs.

Justin Lang, Marist baseball

Lang came through in the clutch for Marist during their 9-8 win over Homewood-Flossmoor. The senior drove in four runs including the game-winning two-run single in the seventh inning.

Bryce Loeger, Conant baseball

A junior, Loeger was impressive on the mound for Conant in his first start of the year on Thursday. Over 4 2/3 innings of work, Loeger struck out seven and allowed just three hits and a walk as the Cougars beat Maine South 5-2.

Sage Mardjetko, Lemont softball

A senior and last year's Gatorade Illinois Softball Player of the Year, Mardjetko had a dominant pitching performance in Lemont's home-opening win. The South Carolina commit tossed a no-hitter with 17 strikeouts.

Amanda Martineck, Lincoln-Way East softball

A senior catcher and infielder, Martineck went 4-for-5 with two RBIs in wins over Plainfield North and St. Laurence.

Charlene Mendoza, Bloom girls soccer

Mendoza recorded a hat trick (including her 100th career goal) in a 3-1 Bloom victory over Evergreen Park and also contributed an assist in a 3-1 victory over Reavis.

Noah Schmitt, Leyden baseball

Schmitt was the leader of the Leyden offense on Tuesday as he had three hits and four RBIs (a pair of two-run singles in the first and second innings) to help the Eagles to a 11-5 win over Maine East.

Simon Skroch, Yorkville baseball

A junior left-handed pitcher, Skroch posted an impressive outing at Marmion on Tuesday. The Minnesota recruit allowed just one unearned run over five innings and struck out nine hitters to keep the Cadet offense in check during the Foxes' 7-1 victory.

Nicole Staszel, Fenton softball

Staszel had a stellar pitching performance in her first varsity start against Hoffman Estates on Thursday. The sophomore was dominant and hurled a one-hit shutout as Fenton won 10-0.

Trey Swiderski, Joliet Catholic baseball

Swiderski was named the MVP of the WJOL Don Ladas Memorial Tournament after going 5-for-10 with two doubles, three runs scored, and either RBIs in three games and leading the Hilltoppers to the championship.

Josh Vaughn, Illini Bluffs baseball

A junior, Vaughn was dominant on the mound during a 6-0 Illini Bluffs victory over Brimfield. The right-hander struck out 20 while allowing just two hits in a shutout win.

Aiden Wimer, Palatine baseball

Wimer had a solid hitting performance during the Pirates comeback victory over York on Thursday. The third baseman was 3-for-4 with two doubles and the game-tying RBI single in the sixth inning.

Gabby Wojtarowicz, Jacobs girls soccer

Wojtarowicz paced the Eagles offensive effort in their 4-0 win over Larkin on Tuesday. The sophomore recorded two goals and an assist.
