Dowling claims marquee 5A matchup, while Williamsburg scores a signature win

1. Southeast Polk (2-0) 

Connor Moberly threw for 272 yards and five scores, and the Rams led Ankeny 42-7 at the half en route to a 58-21 victory. 

2. West Des Moines Dowling (2-0)

Dylan Manning led the Maroons’ defense with 9.0 tackles as they held West Des Moines Valley to 221 total yards in a 14-0 win.

3. West Des Moines Valley (0-2)

Hard to penalize the Tigers for losses to No. 1 Southeast Polk (24-18) and No. 2 Dowling (14-0).

4. ADM (2-0)

Big test for the Tigers this week as No. 17 Lewis Central comes to town reeling a bit from a loss to No. 16 Creston.

5. Williamsburg (2-0)

Huge signature win for the Raiders, who knocked away a two-point pass with 1:30 left to beat Cedar Rapids Xavier, 21-20.

6. Cedar Rapids Xavier (1-1)

Saints allowed only 173 total yards to Williamsburg, but it wasn’t enough.

7. Mount Vernon (2-0)

Mustangs have allowed only six points this season, surrendering 74 total yards in 33-0 win over Union.

8. North Scott (2-0)

Lancers’ offense was in top form Friday in a 56-28 victory over Waverly-Shell Rock.

9. Western Dubuque (2-0)

Grant Glausser carried 24 times for 230 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-14 win over Dubuque Wahlert.

10. Ankeny (1-1)

Luke Anderson threw for 220 yards and three TDs in the 58-21 loss to Southeast Polk, but the Rams were by far the more physical team.

11. Ankeny Centennial (1-1)

J.J. Morgan and Braeden Jackson ran for two touchdowns apiece as the Jaguars bounced back from their Ankeny loss with a 42-6 win over Ames.

12. Van Meter (2-0)

Austin Baumhover threw for 165 yards and four scores, and ran for 123 yards and two more TDs in a 56-17 win over Des Moines Christian.

13. Central Lyon/George-Little Rock (2-0)

The Lions held MOC-Floyd Valley to 158 total yards in a 42-7 victory.

14. Webster City (2-0)

Big game this week at home for the Lynx as they welcome No. 22 North Polk.

15. Bettendorf (2-0)

Junior Jacob Whipple (99 rushing yards) led a 253-yard ground attack in a 48-0 win over Davenport West.

16. Creston (2-0)

Brennan Hayes rushed 27 times for 190 yards, and the Panthers broke a six-game losing streak against Lewis Central with a 22-20 upset victory.

17. Lewis Central (1-1)

Little time for the Titans to lick their wounds after the loss to Creston, as a date at No. 4 ADM looms.

18. Harlan Community (1-1)

Will Arkfeld completed 10 for 12 for 297 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions in the Cyclones’ 48-20 win over Denison-Schleswig.

19. Grundy Center (2-0)

Trent Cakerice had 7.5 tackles, including 1.5 for losses as the Spartan held Aplington-Parkersburg to 147 total yards in a 31-7 win.

20. Cedar Rapids Prairie (2-0)

Casey Kelley carried 16 times for 248 yards and five TDs in a 49-13 win over Dubuque Senior.

21. Davenport Assumption (2-0)

Angelo Jackson rushed 20 times for 203 yards and four scores in a 48-21 win over Davenport North.

22. North Polk (2-0)

Isaac Zoske completed 14 of 18 for 267 yards and four touchdowns as the Comets snapped a five-game losing streak to Carlisle with a resounding 43-7 win.

23. Linn-Mar (2-0)

Dylan Muszynski rushed for 173 yards and three TDs and Tyree Alons added nine totes for 168 yards and two scores in a 49-7 win over Cedar Rapids Washington.

24. Underwood (1-1)

Maddox Nelson’s 10-yard, fourth-quarter touchdown run was the only score in the Eagles’ hard-fought 24-14 win over Carroll Kuemper.

25. Cedar Falls (1-1)

Drew Gerdes (135 yards) and William Remmert (117 yards) provided the 1-2 rushing punch in the Tigers’ 35-21 win over Johnston.
