Iowa high school football Top 25 rankings (11/13/2023)
Here are SBLive’s Iowa high school football rankings for the week of Nov. 12. All championship games are at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.
1. Southeast Polk (12-0) Championship opponent Friday: No. 4 Ankeny (9-3), 7 p.m.
CJ Phillip's 1-yard TD run in overtime allowed the Rams to escape West Des Moines Valley, 30-27.
2. Western Dubuque (11-1) Championship opponent Thursday: No. 7 Lewis Central (10-2), 7 p.m.
Grant Glausser carried 37 times for 204 yards and two TDs as the Bobcats rallied past Bondurant-Farrar 28-21.
3. Central Lyon/George-Little Rock (12-0) Championship opponent Friday: No. 5 Van Meter (12-0), 10 a.m.
Lions overcame a 14-0 first-quarter deficit to overtake Spirit Lake 28-14 as Reece Vander Zee ran for 170 yards and three touchdowns.
4. Ankeny (9-3) Championship opponent Friday: No. 1 Southeast Polk (12-0), 7 p.m.
Ryan Harrington's 44-yard field goal midway through the third stood for the winning points in a 10-7 win over crosstown rival Ankeny Centennial.
5. Van Meter (12-0) Championship opponent Friday: No. 3 Central Lyon/George-Little Rock (12-0), 10 a.m.
Bulldogs trailed Monticello late in the third, but Ben Gordon added his third and fourth rushing TDs of the game in a 35-21 win.
6. Ankeny Centennial (7-5)
Jaguars outgained Ankeny 284-172 in their 10-7 semifinal loss, but lost the turnover battle 3-0.
7. Lewis Central (10-2) Championship opponent Thursday: No. 2 Western Dubuque (11-1), 7 p.m.
Titans dominated North Polk 31-5 in 4A semis, outgaining them 327-140.
8. West Des Moines Valley (6-6)
Tigers put together another trademark playoff run, falling to Southeast Polk 10-7 in overtime.
9. West Des Moines Dowling (9-2)
Maroons lost to Ankeny 14-7 in the 5A quarterfinals.
10. Williamsburg (11-1) Championship opponent Friday: No. 15 Sioux City Heelan (11-1), 1 p.m.
Derek Weisskopf completed 12 of 19 for 366 yards and four TDs in a 45-14 3A semifinal demolition of Solon.
11. Cedar Falls (7-4)
Tigers lost 21-20 to No. 1 Southeast Polk in 5A quarterfinals when their late two-point attempt came up short.
12. Mount Vernon (9-2)
Mustangs dropped a 38-35 quarterfinal heartbreaker to Williamsburg in 3A.
13. Bondurant-Farrar (9-3)
Bluejays performed admirably in the 4A semis, leading Western Dubuque in the fourth before falling 28-21.
14. Pleasant Valley (8-2)
Spartans dropped a 31-21 first-round decision to West Des Moines Valley.
15. Sioux City Heelan (11-1) Championship opponent Friday: No. 10 Williamsburg (11-1), 1 p.m.
Crusaders are a remarkable story: They won five total games in the previous four years before this year's run to the title game.
16. Creston (11-1)
Panthers' impressive run ended in a 16-13 loss to Heelan in the 3A semifinals.
17. Waukee (8-3)
Warriors lost 20-7 to West Des Moines Valley in the 5A quarterfinals.
18. Spirit Lake (10-2)
Indians led Central Lyon/GLR 14-0 early before falling 28-14 in the 2A semifinals.
19. Grundy Center (12-0) Championship opponent Thursday: No. 23 MFL MarMac (11-1), 1 p.m.
Spartans steamrolled Waterloo Columbus 42-7 in the 1A semis, outgaining the Sailors 391-141.
20. ADM (7-4)
Tigers led Lewis Central 21-10 in the third quarter before falling 32-21 in the 4A quarterfinals.
21. North Scott (8-3)
Lancers lost 21-7 to Western Dubuque in the 4A quarterfinals.
22. Johnston (5-5)
Dragons lost by single digits to Ankeny, Waukee and Southeast Polk, and again to Ankeny 21-9 in the playoffs.
23. MFL MarMac (11-1) Championship opponent Thursday: No. 19 Grundy Center (12-0), 1 p.m.
Bulldogs are a true rags-to-riches story. They had zero winning seasons between 1993 and 2018, and made their first semifinal appearance this year.
24. Sioux Center (9-2)
Warriors dropped a 27-26, triple-OT decision to Sioux City Heelan in the 3A quarterfinals.
25. West Lyon (9-2)
Wildcats lost 20-19 to Spirit Lake in the 2A quarterfinals, and their other loss was 7-0 to Central Lyon/GLR.
