Iowa's best high school girls basketball players: Meet the state's top shooting guards

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be taking a position-by-position look at some of the top players in Iowa high school girls basketball. This list focuses on the shooting guards. 

There are hundreds of standout girls basketball players in Iowa and these lists are not intended to be comprehensive. If you know of any other shooting guards worthy of our attention, please email nate@scorebooklive.com. 

Finley Blackmore, 5-11, Jr., Ankeny Centennial

Blackmore provided a spark off the bench for Centennial during her sophomore season. She has started all 11 games for the Jaguars this season and is second on the team with 13 3-pointers.

Kendra Boatman, 5-7, Soph., Keokuk

Boatman has averaged 19.6 points per game for a Chiefs’ team that has won 10 in a row since a season-opening loss. A very steady performer, she adds 5.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 4.9 steals per contest.

Macy Boge, 5-7, Sr., North Linn

The Lynx are sailing along in the top spot in the Class 1A rankings after reaching a state semifinal last season. Boge is one of three returning starters from that team, along with younger sister Molly and all-stater Kamryn Kurt. Macy Boge has contributed 14.7 points and 3.4 assists through 11 games, shooting 48.4 percent from the field.

Isabella Borgos, 5-8, Jr., West Marshall

As a sophomore, Borgos stepped up to average 16.6 points on 47-percent shooting, helping her team reach the state tournament. The Trojans have won seven of their first 10 games, with Borgos averaging 19.6 points

Mya Crawford, 5-7, Jr., Ankeny Centennial

Drake University commit Crawford led Centennial to an 18-7 record and Class 5A state semifinal berth. She averaged 8.7 points and a team-high 7.8 rebounds while also leading the Jaguars with 62 steals. In 11 games this season, she had upped her scoring average to 13.7 per contest. Crawford played her freshman season at Cedar Falls before moving to Ankeny when her father, Erik, became director of player development at Iowa State.

Lindsey Davis, 5-8, Sr., Nodaway Valley

Davis is a four-year starter and Upper Iowa University commit. She headed into the 2024 portion of the season averaging 24.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game. As a junior, The first team Class 2A all-stater averaged 25.7 points and finished in the top 20 statewide with 108 steals.

Greta Dillinger, 5-10, Jr., North Polk

Dillinger is the second-leading scorer for the third-ranked Class 4A team. After opening some eyes with a strong AAU summer, she is averaging 8.3 points through 10 games with 15 3-pointers.

Izzy Eisbach, 5-9, Soph., Nodaway Valley

Although just a sophomore, Eisbach is one of her team’s leaders, pairing with all-stater Lindsey Davis to form a potent back court. The daughter of Nodaway Valley Coach Brian Eisbach has scored at a 19-points-per-game clip through six games, including a 29-point performance against Martensdale-
St. Marys.

Karis Finley, 5-9, Soph., Cedar Falls

Finley may play second fiddle to all-stater and Drake signee Grace Knutson on the Tigers’ squad, but she has averaged 15.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.3 steals for a 9-1 team. Not bad numbers for a second-year varsity performer.

Alex Flattery, 5-9, Sr., Sioux City East

Flattery earned third-team Class 5A all-state accolades as a junior, averaging 14.6 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. She has signed on to play at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

Savannah Gage, 5-10, Jr., Ankeny

Gage, who will play at Division I University of St. Thomas, earned first-team Class 5A all-state honors as a sophomore, averaging 16.6 points per game. She had a stretch of 36 consecutive free throws made in a 14-game stretch. Gage tore her ACL in an April AAU game and has played in just seven of her team’s 11 games this season, averaging 12.4 points.

Maclayn Houston, 5-7, Sr., West Harrison

Although her team suffered through a long season, Houston put up some impressive numbers, averaging 23.5 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. She broke her school’s career record for free throws made early this season.

Sydney Huber, 6-0, Jr., Mount Vernon

Huber has transferred to Mount Vernon from Cedar Rapids Xavier for her junior season. She contributed 9.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per game as a sophomore, helping Xavier reach the state tournament. In her first season at Mount Vernon, Huber has averaged 12.5 points and 7.8 rebounds through 10 games.

Grace Knutson, 5-10, Sr., Cedar Falls

The Drake University signee was named the Mississippi Valley Conference player of the year as a junior, averaging 21 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals per game. A first team 5A all-stater, Knutson holds the school record for most 3-pointers in a season (65) and went over 1,000 points for her career early this season.

Averie Lower, 5-11, Soph., Clear Creek-Amana

The leading scorer on the second-ranked Class 4A team in the state, Lower is averaging 17.9 points, along with 5.5 rebounds and 2.9 steals through eight games. She is shooting a torrid 63.3 percent, including 57.4 from beyond the arc, where she has drained 27 of 47 treys.

Morgan Mann, 5-7, Jr., Humboldt

Mann is good for 18.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.9 steals through 11 games for Humboldt this season. She has the ability to play either the wing or point guard spot with equal effectiveness.

Hailey Miller, 5-8, Sr., Solon

Miller was a third-team Class 3A all-state pick as a junior, averaging 11.8 points and 2.8 assists per game. Solon lost to eventual state champion Sioux Center in a semifinal game and has won nine of its first 10 games this season, with Miller (13.7 ppg.) and fellow all-stater Callie Levin leading the way.

Trishelle Miller, 5-10, Soph., Sioux City East

One of the top young players in the state, the versatile Miller can play either the point or shooting guard position. As a freshman, she poured in 20.3 points per game while handing out 4.0 assists. Because of an injury, she played her first game of the season in January, scoring 13 points.

Ella Moser, 5-8, Jr., Cedar Rapids Kennedy

Moser was a second-team All-Mississippi Valley Conference performer as a sophomore. She has been a dependable performer through eight games this season, averaging 9.5 points while leading her team with 14 3-pointers.

Reagan Pagniano, 5-7, Jr., Pleasant Valley

Pagniano averages 10.5 points per game for Iowa’s defending Class 5A state champions. Just as important, she has dished out 59 assists and is shooting 43.2 percent from the field.

Jayden Petersen, 5-8, Sr., Dike-New Hartford

The Wolverines were the Class 2A state champions last season and have won nine of their first 10 games this season. Petersen has put up 11.0 points and 7.4 rebounds thus far.

Sophia Shannon, 5-10, Sr., Martensdale-St. Marys

Shannon helped Martensdale-St. Marys make it to the state tournament last season, averaging 11.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.1 steals. The Briar Cliff University signee hit 52 3-pointers.

Eva Solseth, 5-9, Sr., Southeast Polk

Solseth will continue her basketball career at Grand View University. First, though, she will finish her senior prep season, in which she has averaged 10.6 points and 4.5 rebounds through 11 games.

Aili Tanke, 6-0, Sr., Johnston

The Iowa State signee is a four-star and the highest-ranked Iowa recruit at No. 98 in the ESPNw/HoopGurlz recruit rankings. As a junior, Tanke made the Class 5A first team all-state squad, averaging 15.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while leading the Dragons to a state runner-up finish. She has played in three state championship games in her career, including a state title team in 2022. Johnston won its first 11 games this season, with Tanke averaging 15.3 points and 8.3 rebounds.

Abby Tuttle, 5-8, Jr., North Polk

Tuttle made the Class 4A second-team all-state list, averaging 11.2 points, 5.2 assists and 4.2 rebounds for a state runner-up squad. She has verbally committed to the University of Northern Iowa and is off to a good start this season, averaging 15 points through 10 games.

Jordan Valley, 5-6, Jr., Hampton-Dumont-CAL

Playing alongside twin sister Brooklyn in the Bulldogs’ back court, Valley is the team’s only double-digit scorer at 10.6 points per game and she also averages 4.8 steals.

Lucy Wolf, 5-7, Sr., Iowa City West

Wolf is a good all-around performer for West, a shooting guard who does a little bit of everything. She is known for her strong decision making late in games, whether it be scoring or getting the ball to an open teammate. She averages just under eight points and leads the team with 22 steals through nine games.
