Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Iowa high school athlete of the week for Jan. 14-20. Read through the nominees and cast your vote. Voting will conclude Sunday at 11:59 p.m. If you would like to make a nomination in a future week, email nate@scorebooklive.com

Karrington Asp, Western Dubuque girls basketball

The junior had a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Bobcats in a 56-51 victory over Iowa City High. Asp also had two blocks and two steals.

Brock Badding, Carroll Kuemper boys basketball

The sophomore scored 22 points, making 8 of 11 shots, including 5 of 8 from 3-point range, to lead Class 2A fifth-ranked Kuemper to a 91-65 win over Creston.

Emiliano Barrantes, Grand View Christian boys basketball

The 6-foot-9 junior scored 22 points and snared 22 rebounds in a losing effort to Kuemper.

Samantha Becker, Cedar Rapids Washington girls basketball

Becker, one of three sophomore starters for Washington, scored 26 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a 51-43 win over city rival Jefferson. Becker’s twin sister, Hailey, is also a starter.

Cade Behrens, Coon Rapids-Bayard boys basketball

The senior sharpshooter nailed seven 3-pointers and fired in 25 points as the 11-2 Crusaders rolled past Paton-Churdan, 78-24.

Jack Bloom, Alta-Aurelia boys basketball

The senior hit 9 of 13 shots, splashing four 3-pointers, and scored 22 points as the Warriors beat East Sac County 63-57. Both teams are now 9-3 for the season.

Kendra Boatman, Keokuk girls basketball

The sophomore had 24 points on 8 of 12 shooting, leading the Class 4A No.15 Chiefs (12-1) to a 79-44 win over Burlington. Boatman added five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Sam Boothe, Central Decatur boys basketball

The senior finished with 21 points, nine rebounds, six steals and a blocked shot in the Cardinals’ 76-42 victory over North Union.

Brady Boulton, Montezuma boys basketball

The sophomore had a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds as the Braves topped Iowa Valley 69-38. Boulton tacked on seven assists and six steals.

Cam Buffington, Winfield-Mt. Union boys basketball

The senior and University of Iowa football recruit charted a double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds in an 83-33 blowout of Wapello. Abram Edwards also had a double-double for the Class 1A third-ranked Wolves (12-1) with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Ashlyn Davis, Westwood girls basketball

The junior finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds for the unbeaten and Class 2A third-ranked Rebels in a 60-21 win over OABCIG. Davis also had five assists and four blocked shots.

Braylon Dawes, Panorama boys basketball

The senior produced 21 points, 10 rebounds and five assists and the Panthers improved to 10-4 with a 67-62 victory over ACGC.

Camden Davis, Hudson boys basketball

The senior posted a double-double, scoring 17 points and snaring 10 rebounds, as the Class 3A fourth-ranked Pirates stormed past East Marshall 69-28, improving their record to 12-1.

Carson Doolittle, Webster City boys wrestling

The senior became the 12th member of the four-timers club, capturing his fourth North Central Conference tournament crown. He joined his brother, Webster City head coach Drake Doolittle, on the list along with former teammate Cam Phextoumphone.

Graclyn Eastman, Algona Garrigan girls basketball

The freshman sensation scored 19 points and hauled in 12 rebounds, leading the two-time defending Class 1A state champions to a 62-24 rout of Eagle Grove. Eastman, who made 8 of 11 shots, also had five steals and two blocked shots for the 14-1 Golden Bears, ranked seventh in 1A.

Libby Fandel, Cedar Rapids Xavier girls basketball

The junior charted a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds, while also going over 1,000 points for her career in the Saints’ 49-36 win over Waterloo West.

Carter Freeman, Waukee Northwest boys wrestling

Waukee Northwest’s Carter Freeman avenged his lone loss by handing Koy Davidson (Fort Dodge) his first defeat at 138 pounds, 3-2, to win the Ed Winger Invitational.

Vera Grom, Sioux City West girls basketball

The junior had 20 points and 17 rebounds for the Class 5A 15th-ranked Wolverines in a 68-61 victory over Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln. Grom was 6 for 11 from the field and 7 of 10 from the line.

Lindsey Haken, George-Little Rock girls basketball

Haken, a sophomore, had a double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds (nine offensive) as the Class 1A No. 14 Mustangs moved to 10-1 with a 62-26 victory over Le Mars Gehlen Catholic.

Audrie Helmrichs, Edgewood-Colesburg girls basketball

The senior scored 20 points and grabbed 16 rebounds – 14 of them offensive – as the 10-4 Vikings got past North Cedar, 77-25. Helmrichs rounded out a stellar showing with four steals and three assists.

Hunter Hughes, WACO boys basketball

The senior tossed in a game-high 34 points, leading the 8-3 Warriors to an 82-34 victory over Columbus. Hughes was 13 of 21 from the field, nailing six 3-pointers, and also had six rebounds and three steals.

Davis Kern, Linn-Mar boys basketball

The junior led the Class 4A No. 10 Lions past Iowa City Liberty , 75-56, finishing with 24 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots.

Jake Knight, Bettendorf boys wrestling

The sophomore remained unbeaten on the season, besting Fort Dodge senior and future University of Iowa Hawkeye Dru Ayala, 5-3, in the 120-pound finals of the Ed Winger Invitational. Knight also won the Class 3A 113-pound title last year with a 6-4 decision over Ayala.

Brooke Krogmann, West Delaware girls basketball

Krogmann was 10 for 12 from the free throw line and scored a team-high 21 points for the Hawks in a 50-40 triumph over Williamsburg. Sophomore Norah Peyton chipped in a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Jayden Kuper, Monticello girls basketball

The junior star tossed in 23 points, leading the Class 3A ninth-ranked Panthers to an easy win over Anamosa.

Talan Lafrentz, Denver boys basketball

Lafrentz popped in 38 points and the junior made it a double-double with 11 rebounds as the Cyclones outscored East Marshall 102-96 in two overtimes. This came one night after Lafrentz scored 24 points against Vinton-Shellsburg.

Abby Lee, Sioux City Bishop Heelan girls basketball

Lee, a junior, just missed a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds, leading the Class 4A fifth-ranked Crusaders to a 62-42 win over Sioux City East. Lee made all six of her free throw attempts and Heelan was 18-for-20 as a team.

Claire Lueken, Dubuque Wahlert girls basketball

Lueken, a junior, poured in 30 points – hitting six 3-pointers – and grabbed nine rebounds for the Golden Eagles (11-2) in a 54-38 victory over Dubuque Hempstead. Lueken also had four steals and three assists.

Jaelyn Marienau, Le Mars girls basketball

The junior rained in eight 3-pointers en route to a career-high 33 points for the Bulldogs, ranked No. 7 in Class 3A, in a 64-41 win over Sergeant Bluff-Luton.

Lance McShane, Maquoketa Valley boys basketball

The senior had a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds, leading the Wildcats past Starmont, 59-31.

Jack Miller, Jesup boys basketball

The senior tallied 25 points, seven rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocked shots for the J-Hawks in a 63-59 triumph over Union.

Morgan Miller, Iowa City Regina girls basketball

The junior standout scored 27 points to go along with seven assists for the Class 2A No. 4 Regals in a 70-46 win over Durant. Miller hit five 3-pointers for 12-2 Regina.

Payton Petersen, Dike-New Hartford girls basketball

The senior snared 20 rebounds as part of a double-double for the two-time defending Class 2A state champions in a 64-24 victory over Aplington-Parkersburg. Payton scored 12 points to go along with her 20 boards, while twin sister Jadyn also double-doubled with 16 points and 11 rebounds for the 11-1 Wolverines.

Natalie Ramsey, Iowa City Liberty girls basketball

The sophomore tossed in 25 points, while adding six rebounds and three steals, as the Lightning downed Iowa City High, 75-64. Ramsey made 8 of 12 shots and seven of eight free throws.

Colton Rasmussen, Atlantic Boys basketball

Class 3A’s leading scorer (26.9) poured in 41 points in a 77-72 loss to Red Oak.

Cael Reichter, North Fayette Valley boys basketball

The junior had an impressive double-double with 20 points and 18 rebounds, leading the TigerHawks to a 60-47 win over Oelwein. Reichter also blocked four shots.

Tyke Remster, Saint Ansgar boys basketball

The senior popped in 26 points, leading the Saints to a 71-30 win over North Butler. Remster was 9-for-15 with four 3-pointers.

Addie Rhodes, Hudson girls basketball

The junior scored 20 points and completed a double-double with 13 rebounds, leading the Pirates to a 69-42 win over East Marshall.

Preston Ries, Monticello boys basketball

The senior and future Iowa Hawkeye football player registered 34 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists and three steals for the unbeaten Panthers in an 83-56 victory over Anamosa. Ries made 11 of 19 shots and was 10-for-10 from the free throw line.

Jaidyn Sellers, Panorama girls basketball

The senior had 15 points and 15 rebounds for the unbeaten (14-0) Panthers in a 46-30 win over AGSWR. Tyme Boettcher also contributed a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. The 5-10 Sellers also blocked six shots.

Ella Sharar, Iowa Falls-Alden girls basketball

The senior had 30 points and 16 rebounds as the Cadets handed Humboldt a 64-59 setback. Sharar shot 10-for-14 and made 8 of 12 free throws.

Emilie Sorensen, Waukee girls basketball

The junior posted a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds as the Warriors turned back crosstown rival Waukee Northwest 64-61 in a matchup of Class 4A top 10 squads. Sorensen hit six of nine shots from beyond the arc.

Brooklyn Stanley, Bishop Heelan girls basketball

It was an historic week for the senior. Stanley scored 22 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, nabbed 7 steals and dished out 6 assists in a 79-41 win over Sioux City North. Stanley scored here 1,000th career point and moved to second place on the Crusaders all-time steals chart.

Haylee Stokes, Estherville-Lincoln Central girls basketball

Stokes finished with 22 points and six assists, leading the Class 3A fourth-ranked Midgets to a 50-33 victory over Storm Lake.

Melina Snoozy, Bishop Heelan girls basketball

The freshman scored 23 points, and added f5 rebounds, 5 seals and 2 assists in a 60-29 win over Dallas Center-Grimes. 

Idris Thomas, Davenport West boys basketball

The senior scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds, helping the Falcons topple Class 4A No. 4 North Scott, 76-74. Thomas is the third-leading scorer in 4A, averaging 22 points per game.

Creighton Tuzzio, Clarinda boys basketball

The senior made all seven of his shots – including four 3-pointers – en route to a team-high 25 points in the Cardinals’ 63-52 win over Atlantic. Tuzzio was also 8-for-10 from the free throw line.

Reece Vander Zee, Central Lyon boys basketball

Vander Zee, who will play football at the University of Iowa, had a monster performance with 38 points and 18 rebounds for the defending Class 2A state champion Lions in a 62-58 win over Sheldon. Vander Zee leads the state in scoring (29.3).

Drew Wagner, Waterloo Christian boys basketball

The senior posted a double-double with 27 points and 14 rebounds as the Regents handed a 10-win Dunkerton squad a 61-49 setback. Wagner also had four assists and two steals in a well-rounded performance.
