Iowa high school boys basketball Top 25 rankings (1/22/2024)

There was plenty of movement in the Iowa boys rankings, but the one constant is Cedar Rapids Kennedy kept rolling to remain on top. 

1. Cedar Rapids Kennedy (11-0) 

The only unbeaten team in Class 4A keep rolling along. The Cougars made a statement with a 57-34 victory over previous No. 2 Dubuque Senior and then pounded Cedar Rapids Prairie by almost 50.

2. Iowa City West (9-1)

The Trojans climb two spots after winning their only game last week, avenging a previous loss to Linn-Mar 52-47.

3. West Des Moines Valley (9-3)

The defending 4A state champions beat Ankeny Centennial 60-59 and Urbandale 80-69.

4. Dubuque Senior (11-1)

After getting blown out at Kennedy in a battle of our top two teams, the Rams responded with a 62-42 win at Western Dubuque and a neutral sight 62-27 beatdown of Milwaukee Bradley Tech at Loras. They fall two positions.

5. Ankeny Centennial (10-3)

The Jaguars lost to the previous 4A state champions West Des Moines Valley 60-59 and then annihilated Waterloo West 87-25 to hold steady in the 5 position.

6. Waukee (10-4)

The Warriors remain at 6 after they were upset 65-63 by Dowling Catholic. They did bounce back to blow out Waukee Northwest 56-35.

7. North Scott (11-2)

The Lancers saw their four-game winning streak end with a 76-74 loss at Davenport West but bounced back to beat Assumption Catholic 67-57 and Milwaukee Academy of Science 63-56. They fall four spots.

8. Cedar Falls (9-2)

The Tigers blew out all three of their opponents last week, beating Iowa City High by 37, Xavier Catholic by 26 and Des Moines Hoover by 49 to move up a postion.

9. Council Bluffs Abe Lincoln (10-2)

The Lynx climb back in the top 10 after winning all three games, edging Maryville, Mo., by two, blasting Sioux City West by 42 and beating Sergeant Bluff-Luton by 12.

10. Norwalk (8-2)

The Warriors won their only game since the holiday break, beating Pella Christian 58-51 to stay in the top 10.

11. Dallas Center-Grimes (8-2)

The Mustangs upset Ankeny 84-68 before pounding a solid Carroll team by 30 in the Gilbert Showcase to vault six spots.

12. Sioux City East (11-2)

The Black Raiders rolled past Bishop Heelan by 14, Sioux City North by 50 and LeMars by 41. They’ve now won 10 of 11 and move up eight positions.

13. Ankeny (9-4)

The Hawks fall five spots after losing their second straight game -- 84-68 to Dallas Center-Grimes before bouncing back to beat Southeast Polk 76-61.

14. Clear Lake (11-0)

The 3A Lions keep rolling with double-digit wins over Webster City and Hampton-Dumont-CAL. They are the highest ranked non-4A team in our all-class Top 25.

15. Pleasant Valley (9-3)

Winners of seven straight, the Spartans beat Muscatine by 20 and Davenport North by eight.

16. West Lyon (13-0)

The 2A unbeaten Wildcats won both of their games with blowout wins over Okoboji by 25 and Sheldon by 41.

17. Carroll Kuemper Catholic (13-1)

The 2A Knights, who have won 13 straight and are 5-1 vs. Class 3A teams, rolled to three more wins, beating Clarinda by 36, Creston by 25 and defending 1A state champion Grand View Christian by 10.

18. Marquette Catholic (14-0)

Class 1A Marquette won all three games, beating Lisbon by 30, Prince of Peace by nine and Cuba City (Wis.) by 10.

The 2A Wolfpack won both of their games, beating Minnesota teams Chaska Southwest Christian by 10 and Minneapolis Blake by five.

20. Waverly-Shell Rock (11-2)

The 3A Go-Hawks, riding an 11-game win streak, won all three games, blowing out New Hampton by 50, Charles City by 13 and Benton by 29.

21. MOC Floyd Valley (10-2)

Winners of six straight, the 3A Dutchmen beat Boyden Hull by 14 and defending 2A state champion Central Lyon by seven. They hope to avenge one of their two losses Tuesday at West Lyon.

22. Davenport West (9-3)

The Falcons have won six straight, including an impressive 76-74 win over No. 2 North Scott to make their way into the rankings.

23. Johnston (8-5)

The Dragons have won four straight after a sluggish start to climb back into the rankings.

24. Bishop Heelan (8-3)

The 3A Crusaders split with Sioux City rivals, falling to East by 14 before getting past North by five. They’ve lost three of six.

25. Linn-Mar (7-5)

The Lions split last week, beating Iowa City Liberty by 19 before falling to Iowa City West by five. They have now lost five of seven after starting out 5-0.
