Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Iowa high school athlete of the week for Feb. 12-18. Read through the nominees and cast your vote. Voting will conclude Sunday at 11:59 p.m. If you would like to make a nomination in a future week, email nate@scorebooklive.com.

Carolyn Amfahr, Martensdale-St. Marys girls basketball

With seven 3-pointers, Amfahr led the Blue Devils to a convincing regional victory, scoring 29 points in the process. 

Gavin Batta, South Central Calhoun boys basketball

Batta led the Titans with 30 points in a postseason win over Eagle Grove.

Mason Bechen, North Linn boys basketball

Bechen scored 31 points to lead the top-ranked Lynx to a victory over Janesville in district play, adding four rebounds and four assists.

Macy Comito, Carlisle girls basketball

Comito, just a sophomore, had 39 points on 15 of 26 shooting with seven 3-pointers. She also grabbed six rebounds and had four steals.

Koy Davidson, Fort Dodge wrestling

Davidson not only won his first state title, but he denied Carter Freeman his fourth with an overtime victory. Davidson, a junior and three-time medalist, went 2-1 vs. Freeman this year and was named the tournament MVP.

Nico DeSalvo, Southeast Polk wrestling

The talented freshman capped a 38-1 season by capturing the 3A title at 106 pounds. In the finals, DeSlavo downed fellow ninth-grader Weston Porter of Lewis Central, 13-0.

Carson Doolittle, Webster City wrestling

Doolittle ended his run of three straight bronze finishes, stunning two-time champ Jace Hedeman and winning gold to cap an unbeaten senior season.

Bode Goodman, Southeast Polk boys basketball

Goodman surpassed 1,000 points in his career for the Rams during a victory over Marshalltown.

Tyler Harper, Norwalk wrestling

There would be no silver for Harper this year, as the Norwalk standout capped a 40-0 season by dominating Alexander Pierce of Iowa City West in the finals at 113 pounds, winning it all in 3A.

Katie Hein, Calamus-Wheatland girls basketball

In a regional victory, Hein had a double-double, scoring 26 points while dishing out 10 assists. She also grabbed eight rebounds and had five steals.

Jacob Helgeson, Johnston wrestling

Helgeson will have the chance to become a three-time champion next year after ending his junior year 34-1 and atop the 3A 165-pound podium.

Ephraim Hoefert, Central Lyon boys basketball

Behind a 27-point, eight-rebound, three-assist performance by Hoefert, the defending state champion Lions rolled in district play.

Collin Homan, Remsen St. Mary’s boys basketball

Homan dominated Boyden-Hull in district action, as the 6-foot-6 junior scored 33 points on 12 of 16 shooting from the field with seven rebounds.

Kyler Knaack, Don Bosco wrestling

For the second straight year, Knaack stood atop the podium, helping the Dons win their sixth consecutive traditional team title in the process.

Jaelyn Marienau, Le Mars girls basketball

Marienau scored a career-high 34 points, adding seven steals and four rebounds in a regional victory for the Bulldogs.

Eli Menke, Lake Mills boys basketball

Menke dropped 29 points with six 3-pointers as the Bulldogs put up 91 points in a district victory.

Jack Miller, Jesup boys basketball

Behind Miller’s 32 points, the J-Hawks got by Denver in district play.

Carter Pearson, Southeast Polk wrestling

In one of the toughest weight classes at state, Pearson came out on top. The Southeast Polk junior went 39-0 to secure the 3A title at 120 pounds.

Klayten Perreault, Mount Vernon wrestling

Nothing like going out on top and perfect, which is exactly what Perreault did. The Mount Vernon senior finished 46-0, winning the 2A title at 106 pounds.

Cael Reichter, North Fayette Valley boys basketball

The junior had 17 points, 17 rebounds and seven blocked shots in a postseason victory, adding three 3-pointers.

Dreshaun Ross, Fort Dodge wrestling

Nobody could come close to the defending state champion sophomore, as Ross earned the first pin of the finals to win gold at 215 in 3A. He finished the year a perfect 47-0, pinning his way through the state bracket.

Keegan Soard, South Central Calhoun boys basketball

Soard was all over the court in a district victory for the Titans, shooting 10 of 13 from the field for 23 points while also pulling down 17 rebounds.

Tucker Stangel, Osage wrestling

He could do no better, as Stangel defended his state title while going unbeaten this year at 157 pounds in 2A.

Haylee Stokes, Estherville-LC girls basketball

The returning all-stater was in prime form in a regional win, scoring 35 points with 12 assists.

Evan Vittitoe, Keota boys basketball

Vittitoe was nearly perfect, shooting 13-for-15 from the field for 28 points in a district win.

Jenna Vonnahme, Pocahontas Area girls basketball

Vonnahme helped the Indians move closer to a return to state with 21 points and 21 rebounds in a regional victory.

Mason Watkins, West Burlington

Watkins drained seven 3-pointers and had 34 points in all as the Falcons rolled past Central Lee and into the next round of districts.
