North Farmington boys basketball hands Muskegon its first loss
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Orchard Lake St. Mary's held Grand Rapids Catholic Central to just one field goal in the entire fourth quarter en route to a 67-51 win Saturday night.
There was a lot of star power in this one. Orchard Lake featured one of the best players in state in Trey McKenney, and Catholic Central had Wright State commit Kaden Brown and football star Nate VanTimmeren making huge impacts.
The game lived up to the hype given the programs of this caliber. The first half was a dogfight, with both teams trading blows. The crowd was much more into this one as well, with Catholic Central having its own student section cheering it on. Orchard Lake took a three-point lead into halftime.
Orchard Lake looked to separate itself in the third quarter, but every time it looked like it would, Catholic Central answered. Brown in particular was a problem, as the senior finished with 26 points.
But it was finally able to pull away in the fourth quarter. McKenney went on a 6-0 run by himself, and then with about three minutes left, Mason Wisniewski put the exclamation point on this one with a massive slam that had everyone gasp in awe.
McKenney finished with 23 points as Orchard Lake got back on track.
