Top Michigan high school baseball and softball games of the week (May 1-6)

Welcome to the final month of the regular season!

Vote now: Who should be SBLive's National Girls Athlete of the Week? (April 24-30)

Here are this week’s top high school baseball and softball games in Michigan:

Baseball

Northville (11-1) vs. Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (18-0), 5/2, 4:30 p.m.

Let’s get this week started with the best matchup of the week. Northville has a loaded week with a lot of tough matchups, but this one certainly takes the cake.

Northville is currently ranked #1 in D1, but Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (ranked #1 in D2) is regarded as the best team in the state. We’ll see who deserves that label after the two battle it out this week in one of the most anticipated games of the season

Okemos (10-3-1) vs. Grand Rapids Christian (11-1), 5/6, 1 p.m.

Grand Rapids Christian started the season hot and just lost its undefeated streak last week. Things don’t get any easier this week with a tough battle against a scrappy Okemos team that ranks 19th in D1.

A win in this one would provide a good vault in the rankings for whoever takes this game. Grand Rapids Christian currently ranks No. 2 in Division 2.

Grass Lake (8-1) vs. Clinton (10-0), 5/6, 10 a.m.

Clinton is another team with a very difficult week ahead, and the toughest matchup for it may just be against Grass Lake. Clinton is currently No. 3 in Division 3 and undefeated, but it will be hard to remain perfect after this grueling stretch of games.

For Grass Lake, this is a great opportunity to earn a marquee win and get closer to the rankings. Its 8-1 start is very impressive, and a win in this game would be massive.

East Jordan (12-0) vs. Grayling (8-4), 5/4, 4:30 p.m.

The top team in Division 4, East Jordan, is off to a 12-0 start and looks like a terrific team. However, remaining perfect will not come easy.

As an undefeated team, East Jordan has a big target on its back and will get everyone’s A game. That will likely be the case when it faces a tricky Grayling team quietly off to an 8-4 start and looking for a big win. This one should be good.

Burton Bendle (0-10) vs. Flint Hamady (0-5), 5/1, 4 p.m.

This week’s game featuring two teams still searching for that coveted first win pits Burton Bendle against Flint Hamady.

Even though neither team has won yet, this still should be a good competitive game, and one team will get to celebrate its first win of the season.

Softball

Hudsonville (8-0) vs. Rockford (6-1), 5/5, 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Much like baseball, softball also has a huge clash this week with arguably the two best teams in the state going at it. Hudsonville is currently ranked No. 1 in Division 1 and Rockford is ranked No. 2.

Will Hudsonville be able to remain undefeated and keep that top spot, or will Rockford show that it belongs at the top? You don’t want to miss this one.

Muskegon Oakridge (10-0) vs. Hamilton (6-0), 5/4, 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

We’ve got a battle of two undefeated teams in this one. Muskegon Oakridge, the No. 8 team in Division 3, faces maybe its stiffest test of the year against perfect Hamilton.

What a win this could be for Hamilton. It will have two chances as the two teams play a double header, and a win for Hamilton should prove how good this team really is.

Coopersville (4-4) vs. Ravenna (16-1), 5/3, 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Ravenna has been a really fun team to follow this season, and it just recently lost its perfect season. It will be interesting to see how the response to that loss continues to unfold.

This could be a great chance for Coopersville to sneak up on Ravenna and get a momentum building win. No matter what happens, this should be a good doubleheader.

Buckley (4-0) vs. Maple City Glen Lake (7-3), 5/2, 4:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.

Buckley is 4-0 on the season and ranked No. 6 in Division 4. It has certainly been an ideal start to the season, but things get a little tricky this week.

This doubleheader against Maple City Glen Lake will definitely be a challenge. We will find out a lot about both teams from these two games.

Manistique (0-4) vs. Gwinn (0-5), 5/1, 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

This week’s winless matchup features Manistique and Gwinn. Both teams will place twice this week in a doubleheader.

At least one team is guaranteed to secure that special first win, but if the two split the doubleheader, then both will get a big win. This should be a competitive couple of games between two hungry teams.
