Top 25 Michigan high school football rankings (10/9/2023)

The Belleville Tigers demolished Wayne Memorial 63-0 (1-6) en route to their 32nd straight win. Friday night was Belleville’s third shutout of the season, and it was also its highest scoring game. 

Junior five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood and senior running back Jeremiah Beasley (Michigan) continue to lead the Tigers on their search for a third straight Division I state title. Fordson (5-2) is the only team left on Belleville’s regular season schedule. 

The Rams defeated East Kentwood (3-4) 55-0, recording their first shutout of the season. Rockford hadn’t shut a team out since 2021, when it beat East Kentwood 48-0. The Rams have to visit Grandville (6-1) next before ending their regular season at home against Hudsonville (4-3). 

The Warriors were able to come out on top against Rochester (2-5) by a score of 25-13. It was Southfield A&T’s first time not scoring at least 34 points since its 20-17 win over Clarkston in week two. The Warriors are set to visit West Bloomfield (5-2) next, and there will likely be a playoff atmosphere surrounding the game. 

Mason took care of St. Johns (3-4) with a 55-13 win Friday night. The Bulldogs have yet to score under 35 points in a game, and 55 is the most they’ve posted in a game this season. Mason has two away games before the playoffs begin, with the first coming against Walled Lake Western (7-0) on October 13. 

The Cardinals beat Carman-Ainsworth (2-5) 50-14. It was the first time Davison has allowed any points since September 15, when it defeated Heritage 37-22. The Cardinals have to visit Grand Blanc (5-2) next before ending their regular season at home against Lapeer (5-2). 

The Dragons were able to beat Clarkston (4-3) 42-21 to claim the OAA Red conference title. Lake Orion put up over 400 yards of offense in the win, and most of it came in the first half. The Dragons host Farmington (2-5) before eventually meeting up with Saline (7-0) in what could be one of the most anticipated games of the season. 

Saline recorded its third shutout of the season in a 31-0 victory over Lincoln (1-6). Sophomore Saline defensive end Isaiah Harris had 3.5 sacks and nine tackles, and he was a problem for Lincoln’s offense throughout the game. The Hornets visit Skyline (1-6) next, and they have a big matchup against Lake Orion (7-0) on October 20. 

The Technicians cruised to their fifth straight win by beating East English Village Prep (3-4) 41-0. In its five wins, Cass Tech is out-scoring its opponents 211-7. Next, the Technicians will once again face their rival Detroit King (4-3), this time for the Detroit Public School League championship at Ford Field. 

Northville was able to take care of Hartland (2-5) by a score of 55-8. The Mustangs could be finding their rhythm on offense, as they’ve scored 104 points over the last two weeks. Northville has to travel to Novi (6-1) on October 13, and it could be the biggest test they’ve faced all season.

The Pilots dominated Brother Rice (0-7) en route to a 54-7 victory. De La Salle was able to put up over 350 total yards of offense while holding Brother Rice to under 100. The Pilots have held their opponents to seven points in each of their last three games, and junior quarterback Sante Gasperoni seems to have found his groove. The Pilots host St. John’s Jesuit (Ohio) next. 

The Big Reds were able to pull off an upset and hand Zeeland West (6-1) its first loss with a 22-16 win. Muskegon was able to gain almost 250 yards on the ground, and senior quarterback M’Khi Guy had three rushing touchdowns. The Big Reds have won five straight and appear ready for the postseason, but first, Union will come to town on October 13. 

Grandville knocked off Caledonia (5-2) 38-34 Friday night. The Bulldogs accumulated over 350 yards of offense, and their defense was able to do enough to get the win. The road to glory only gets tougher from here, as Grandville has to play Rockford (7-0) at home next. 

The Eagles stymied Dakota (5-2) en route to a 31-0 shutout victory. Eisenhower senior quarterback Preston Crum had four touchdowns to secure the Eagles’ first MAC Red conference championship in seven years. Eisenhower is set to host Clarkston (4-3) on October 20. 

The Lakers bounced back from their second loss of the season to defeat Oxford (2-5) 38-19. 38 points is the most West Bloomfield has scored since its 40-33 win over Stoney Creek on September 8. West Bloomfield has a chance to prove its among the best in the state when it hosts Southfield A&T (7-0) next. 

The Big Reds dominated Romeo (3-4) 45-12 on Friday night. Chippewa Valley put up almost 400 yards of offense, with nearly 300 of it coming through the air. The Big Reds were able to force two interceptions and posted their best defensive performance since they shut out L’Anse Creuse (2-5) on August 31. Warren Mott (5-2) is the only team left on Chippewa Valley’s regular season schedule. 

Clarkston took a 42-21 loss to Lake Orion (7-0) Friday night. The Wolves gave up over 400 yards of offense, and it was the most points they’ve allowed in a game this season. Clarkston hosts Harper Woods (4-3) before a matchup with Eisenhower (6-1) on October 20. 

The Dux suffered their first loss against Muskegon (5-2) 22-16. Prior to Friday night, Zeeland West had scored at least 36 points in every game its played. The Dux were unable to reach the century mark both through the air and on the ground, totaling less than 200 yards of offense. Zeeland West hosts Mona Shores (5-2) on October 13. 

The Rangers took care of Northview (4-3) 45-0 for their second defensive shutout in a row. Forest Hills Central accumulated over 350 total yards, and most of it came on the ground. The Rangers have two league games left on their schedule, Lowell (5-2) and Greenville (1-6). 

The Warriors edged out Milford (5-2) for a 28-20 victory Friday night. 28 points is a season low for Walled Lake Western, and it's only given up 20 points or more two other times this year. The Warriors will have a chance to see what they’re made of when Mason (7-0) comes to town next. 

The Cougars suffered a 31-0 loss to Eisenhower (6-1) Friday night. The last time Dakota was shut out, it came in a 35-0 loss to Eisenhower on October 28, 2011. Dakota has now lost two of its last three games, but it has a chance to get back to its winning ways when Utica Ford (1-6) comes to town next. 

The Cougars trampled Forest Hills Eastern (5-2) 49-14. Catholic Central hasn’t given up more than 14 points since its 45-7 loss to Loyola Academy (Illinois) in the first game of the season. The Cougars have also scored at least 38 points in every win they have this season, and they have a rivalry game next against Grand Rapids South Christian (6-1). 

The Falcons defeated Bloomfield Hills (0-7) 30-6 Friday night. Groves accumulated over 250 rushing yards, and over 350 yards total. Groves hasn’t allowed more than 12 points in each of the last three games, and it’ll need to keep its defensive prowess as playoffs get closer. The Falcons have to travel to Ferndale (3-4) next. 

The Shamrocks were able to beat St. John’s Jesuit (Ohio) 35-13. Aside from its 42-21 week two loss to Central Catholic (Ohio), Catholic Central hasn’t allowed more than 14 points in a game this season. The Shamrocks host La Salle (Ohio) before ending their regular season at Mumford (0-7).

Heritage shut out Dow (4-3) by a score of 42-0. The Hawks have scored at least 42 points in each of their last three games, and they’ve done so in all five of their wins. Heritage has two home games left in the regular season, with the first coming against Powers Catholic (2-5). 

Waterford Mott shut out Walled Lake Northern 42-0 Friday night. Since their week one loss to Walled Lake Western, the Corsairs have won six games in a row, and they’ve scored at least 40 points in all but one of them. Waterford Mott is set to host Milford (5-2) next.
