SBLive's Minnesota high school baseball and softball top performers of the week (May 3-8)

SBLive's Minnesota high school baseball Power 25: Centennial reaches No. 2 spot

Cretin-Derham Hall (11-1) at Mounds View (6-6), 5/10 at 4:30 p.m.

Cretin-Derham Hall comes in as the top team in the state and have continued its domination after getting decimated by Park of Cottage Grove on Wednesday. 

The Raiders have a tough stretch of games, but may finish the year undefeated if everything goes to plan.
Mounds View sits at .500 currently, and it has underachieved.

The Mustangs have lost four out of its last five games and recently lost 6-4 to the Raiders a few games ago. The Mustangs have lost all of those games by either a one or two run margin.

St. Thomas Academy (10-3) at Hill-Murray (8-2), 5/12 at 4:30 p.m.

St. Thomas Academy had won the previous nine games before a tough loss against Centennial on Monday. The Cadets are in sole possession of the Metro East Conference, but it has also played more games than any other team. 

The Cadets defeated Hill-Murray 12-2 last week and need to keep the pressure on the Pioneers.

Hill-Murray has won seven of their last eight and are slowly creeping up on St. Thomas Academy. The Pioneers do not have a signature win yet, and it will likely look to rebound in this one after a rough outing last week.

White Bear Lake (9-5) at East Ridge (9-5), 5/12 at 4:30 p.m.

White Bear Lake may have the toughest stretch of three games in the entire state this week. 

The Bears play Stillwater, East Ridge, and Cretin-Derham Hall in the next three, and they are currently tied with East Ridge in second place in the Suburban East.

East Ridge lost to White Bear Lake 4-1 on April 21, and it needs this game to stay in second in the conference. The Raptors have played roughly .500 baseball the last few weeks after starting the season out hot. 

The Raptors have the ability to beat any team in the state but they continue to struggle against top teams on their schedule.

Centennial (9-3) at Champlin Park (7-4), 5/12 at 7 p.m.

Centennial is 6-2 in its last eight games, and it has jumped up the rankings due to this hot streak.

The Cougars have beat some great teams in the last month and are hitting their stride after some questionable early season losses.

Champlin Park has had some close victories this month and need to get their offense going. The Rebels started the season out hot averaging over seven runs per game, but it has struggled to score runs the last few games. 

The Rebels are tied in conference wins with the Cougars, and this game should be big for playoff seeding.

Princeton (6-2) at Monticello (8-2), 5/11 at 4:30 p.m.

Princeton and Monticello face off in an intra conference game on Thursday that could flip the Mississippi 8 Conference.

Princeton sits a half game behind Monticello and they have feasted on the weaker teams on their schedule. The Tigers have won four out of their last five games and averaged nearly eleven runs per game in that stretch.

Monticello is 2-2 in its last four games, and it likely has its toughest matchup of the year against Princeton this week. Monticello is coming off a tough loss to Osseo, and it is just now getting to the meat of their schedule. 

This game could potentially lead to a conference championship.

Wayzata (8-4) vs. Minnetonka (8-3), 5/11 at 5 p.m.

The game will be held at Target Field on Thursday evening.

Wayzata has won four of their last six games but has two losses in a row against Eden Prairie and Edina. The Trojans are sitting atop the competitive Lake Conference but the Skippers are nipping at their heels.

Minnetonka has also won four out of its last six games and rebounded after two straight losses in a victory against Totino-Grace on Saturday. 

The Skippers defeated the Trojans 8-5 on April 26, and they will look to continue their success against them on Thursday.

Cannon Falls (12-2) at Randolph (9-1), 5/13 at 5 p.m.

This game may be one of the most underrated games of the week.

Cannon Falls is 12-2 and have played more games than most of the teams in the state. The Bombers currently lead the Hiawatha Valley Conference, but they have yet to collect a signature win. 

The Bombers have lost their matchups against top teams in their conference in Byron and Stewartville.

Randolph is 9-1 and they surprisingly are in second place in their conference. The Rockets have played a few teams that Cannon Falls has played and they have barely come out ahead in those games. 

The Rockets may have a 9-1 record, but they have not played a team at the level of Cannon Falls.

St. Paul Highland Park (9-0) at Bloomington Kennedy (8-3), 5/11 at 4:30 p.m.

St. Paul Highland Park is one of the more surprising teams in the state. The Scots have one of the most insane run differentials in the state and have beat up on all of their St. Paul City Conference counterparts. 

The Scots first true test of the year will be against Bloomington Kennedy on Thursday.

Bloomington Kennedy is in second place in their conference. The Eagles have a stretch, starting with St. Paul Highland Park, that will determine the rest of their season. 

The Eagles play Holy Angels and St. Anthony in the games following this intriguing matchup and those three games are the key part of their season.
