Minnesota girls basketball state tournament updates throughout the Class 4A and 3A semifinals, and Class 1A quarterfinals

MINNEAPOLIS — The 2024 Minnesota (MSHSL) girls high school basketball state tournament continues on Thursday, March 14 at Williams Arena and Maturi Pavilion.

Class 4A and Class 3A play their semifinals at Williams Arena, and Class 1A plays its quarterfinals at Maturi Pavilion.

Class 4A Semifinals

Hopkins 84,  Maple Grove 78

Freshman Erma Walker led the Royals with a career-high 30 points on 14-of-16 shooting. The Royals' full-court pressed forced the Crimson into five turnovers in the opening four minutes of the second half,  an in a game where Maple Grove outshot the Royals, it was turnovers (Hopkins +5) and offensive rebounds (Hopkins +4) that made the difference.

Minnetonka 67, St. Michael-Albertville 49

The Skippers jumped to a 13-0 lead, and the Knights never cut the lead to single digits. The Skippers held the Knights to 29 percent shooting in the game. Aaliyah Crump scored 27 points for the Skippers. Ja'Kahla Craft led the Knights with 16 points. 

QUOTES: "I thought, in order to advance, we were going to have to play really well, and I think we did." — Minnetonka coach Brian Cosgriff said. 

"We're playing as team right now, but as [Lanelle Wright] said, we also want it more than anything." — Minnetonka senior Tori McKinney said.

Class 3A Semifinals

Benilde-St. Margaret's 73, Stewartville 42

In a Class 3A championship game rematch, The Red Knights had a an 11-point lead within three minutes of the game starting. Senior Red KnightOlivia Olson finished with 32 points. Audrey Schindelar finished with 18 points.

QUOTE: "We put tremendous pressure on the ball. It created some easy baskets for us. It kind of rattled them a little bit. We just felt at home because that's the way we practice, that's the way we play. It was a great day for us." — Red Knights' head coach Tim Ellefson said.

DeLaSalle 82, Alexandria 69

LIVE UPDATES

DeLaSalle pulled away at the end of the first half, and in final five minutes of the game to reach the Class 3A championship. Aneisha Scott led the Islanders with 29 points, and Jordyn Johnson had 20 points. Haldey Thul led Alexandria with 29 points.

DeLaSalle will play Benilde-St. Margaret's in the Class 3A championship on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Williams Arena. 

QUOTE: "Our transition buckets really made a difference in both those runs. So did points in the paint, penetrating and pitching, getting our shooters like [Madalyn Blaylark] open. I think that's what's really made us successful." — DeLaSalle senior Jordyn Johnson said.

Class 1A Quarterfinals

Goodhue 65, Mayer Lutheran 38

Natalie Thomforde and Elisabeth Gadient each scored 19 points as Goodhue built a big lead and never trailed again.

Underwood  64, Southwest Minnesota Christian 52

Southwest Minnesota Christian fought to keep the game close after halftime, but Underwood build a double-digit lead in the second half to take the win. Southwest Minnesota Christian's Jocelyn Barron led all scorers with 22 points.

Mountain Iron-Buhl 71, Walker-Hackensack-Akeley 36

Mountain Iron-Buhl, the defending champions, controlled the game from the opening tip. Jordan Zubich scored 20 points. Ava Welk led Walker-Hackensack-Akeley with 13 points.

Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 72, Fosston 35

Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart shot 58 percent from the field and 52 percent from 3-point range. Rachel Kotte led Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart with 21 points. Lexi Mahlen scored 13 points for Fosston.
