Choctaw Central girls basketball PG Malaka Morris voted SBLive’s Mississippi High School Athlete of the Week
Congratulations to Choctaw Central girls basketball point guard Malaka Morris for being voted SBLive’s Mississippi High School Athlete of the Week for Feb. 28-March 6!
Making her first career start, the sophomore scored 20 points to lead Choctaw Central to a 56-49 victory over Tishomingo County in the MHSAA Class 4A girls basketball state championship.
Morris received 37.21% of the vote, beating out Neshoba Central's Carly Keats who finished second with 32.38%. Lake's D'Nara Barton finished third with 11.34% and Kosciusko's Mary Kimble Price finished fourth with 5.25%. There were over 81,000 votes tallied this week!

Breelyn Cain, West Lauderdale Softball: Through 21 innings pitched, Cain tallied two wins, 38 strikeouts, two wins, two no hitters, and a 1.00 ERA last week for West Lauderdale.
Carly Keats, Neshoba Central Girls Basketball: Keats hit a pair of key free throws with 34 seconds left and finished with 11 points to propel Neshoba Central past Columbus 49-41 to cap the undefeated season and claim the MHSAA Girls Class 5A state championship.
Mary Kimble Price, Kosciusko Softball: Recorded two home runs and two doubles in a 12-4 win over Lake, and also hit for a 'cycle' in a 11-3 win over Ethel.
Zae Davis, Biggersville Boys Basketball: Davis scored 19 points in Biggersville's 45-37 Class 1A state title win over H.W. Byers. With the victory, the Lions repeat as Class 1A champions.
Jolie Hays, Northwest Rankin Softball: Hays pitched a complete game against Brandon allowing only two hits while striking out eight batters. At the plate, she went 1-for-3.
Kimani Hamilton, Clinton Boys Basketball: The Mississippi State commit finished with a game-high 24 points and nine rebounds to lead Clinton to their second consecutive MHSAA Class 6A state title with a 76-75 win over Olive Branch.
D'Nara Barton, Lake Girls Basketball: Barton earned MVP honors, with 12 points and 10 rebounds to take down defending state champion Belmont 46-44 to claim the MHSAA Girls Class 2A State Championship.
Josh Dukes, Booneville Boys Basketball: Dukes scored 15 points to lead Booneville to a 47-35 victory over Southeast Lauderdale in the MHSAA Class 3A state championship game.
Carson Rowland, Pine Grove Boys Basketball: Rowland scored 23 points to help snap Pine Grove's 45-year state title drought with a 43-39 MHSAA 2A state championship win over Velma Jackson.
Louzavious Thomas, Holmes County Central Boys Basketball: Thomas scored 24 points and grabbed 11 boards in Holmes County Central's 76-61 5A state championship win over New Hope-the program's second consecutive title.
Taitiana Beene, Booneville Girls Basketball: Beene had 17 points and 4 steals to lead Booneville to a 46-30 victory over Noxubee County in the MHSAA Class 3A girls basketball state championship.
Jabarie Robinson, Raymond Boys Basketball: Robinson earned MVP honors with 19 points and five rebounds in Raymond's 65-44 Class 4A state title win over Clarksdale.
Debreasha Powe, Meridian Girls Basketball: The Mississippi State signee was unstoppable in the fourth quarter and earned MVP honors for her 22 points and 10 rebounds performance in the Lady Wildcats' first state title victory over Harrison Central.
Marshall Phillips, Sumrall Baseball: Phillips went 2-for-3 and had two doubles in a 5-3 win over MRA.
Asia Stafford, Biggersville Girls Basketball: Stafford scored 20 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead Biggersville to a 56-53 victory over McEvans in the MHSAA Class 1A girls basketball state championship.
