COLUMBIA, Mo. – It didn’t take long after winning the Class 4 150-pound title and walking off the mat for Rock Bridge senior Carter McCallister to change out of his singlet into a Steph Curry jersey.

“I’m a huge Curry fan,” said the three-time state champion. “I like getting buckets, playing basketball. I love it. Curry’s the goat.”

McCallister wore his Rock Bridge jacket as he stepped onto the medal stand but then unzipped his jacket to reveal the Curry jersey for photos.

The Bruins' standout joined Nixa senior Zan Fugitt and Liberty junior Christopher Coates as three-time state champions in Class 4 on Saturday night.

He had a spirited match against Liberty senior Kolby McClain in the 150-pound final that ended with the hometown kid winning a major decision, 19-7.

McCallister finished his senior season with a record of 49-0 after going 45-0 while winning the Class 4 title at 138 pounds as a junior. He finished 36-1 as a sophomore when he won the Class 4 championship at 126 pounds. He finished second at 113 pounds as a freshman and finished that season with a 32-1 mark.

McCallister, who is ranked 10th at 150 pounds in the latest SBLive Sports national high school wrestling rankings, racked up a record of 162-2 over four seasons.

In a few months McCallister will move on from Rock Bridge and move in to the University of Missouri and wrestle for the Tigers.

“It’s amazing getting to wrestle in my hometown at Mizzou Arena,” he said. “It’s amazing. I’ve lived here since I was born. I was born in this town and I get to wrestle here, so it’s gonna be a blast.”
