Parkway Central junior Skyye Lee wins four Missouri Class 4 championships

Lee claims crowns in 100, 200, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Skyye Lee turned the Missouri Class 4 Track and Field Championships into her own personal showcase on Saturday.

The Parkway Central junior made school history a year ago as a sophomore when she became the school’s first track athlete to win four events at the state meet – winning two individual events and being a key part of two winning relay teams.

On Saturday, Lee topped that achievement by winning four individual events at the Missouri Class 4 Track and Field Championships at Jefferson City High School’s Adkins Stadium: the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles.

Asked if she expected to win all four events, Lee said she didn’t want to sound cocky, but she kinda expected to win.

“It means a lot to me,” Lee said of the four titles. “It shows that I worked hard to get my placement.”

Lee broke four school records in the process and her time of 13.36 seconds in the 100 hurdles broke the Missouri Class 4 meet record of 13.84 that she set a year earlier.

As a junior, Lee won the 100 and 300 hurdles but did not compete in the 100-meter dash or 200-meter dash. Instead, she was a member of Central’s winning 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams. The Colts won the Missouri Class 4 championship a year ago with key contributions from the sophomore standout.

Led by Lee’s remarkable day, the Parkway Central girls finished third in the Class 4 team standings on Saturday. The Colts finished with 48.5 points – Lee’s four wins counted for 40 of those – just behind Kearney (52 points) and Pleasant Hill (50).

Lee competed in indoor track this winter, which she attributed to helping her be ready for Saturday’s successful day in Jefferson City.

“This was my first year doing indoor, so I felt like that helped me a lot,” Lee said. “That helped me get more of a feel. Especially the 60-meter hurdles, it helped me get quicker in between hurdles.”

That extra training and competition helped Lee become one of the rare athletes who was able to pull off the feat of winning four individual state championships.

What does that achievement mean to her?

“I feel good,” Lee said. “I feel like I’m an elite athlete now.”
