Lamar and Valle Catholic will battle for Missouri Class 2 football championship

The Lamar Tigers and Valle Catholic Warriors will face off at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday in the Missouri Class 2 football championship game at Memorial Stadium in Columbia.

Lamar is back in the Class 2 championship game for the fourth consecutive season and is looking to win its ninth state title after finishing as the runner-up the past two years. The Tigers won seven straight titles from 2011 to 2017 under previous coach Scott Bailey and then won again in 2020 under Jared Beshore. 

Valle Catholic is back in the title game for the first time since winning the Class 1 crown in 2019 – which was the Warriors' 15th state championship. Valle Catholic has won six Class 1 titles under Judd Naeger (2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015).

Lamar (12-1)

The Tigers have won nine straight games since a Week 4 loss to Seneca, which is undefeated and playing for the Class 3 championship this weekend. 

Lamar is averaging 39 points per game and allowing 10.7.  The run-heavy Tigers are averaging 352.9 yards per game and 272.2 rushing yards contest.

Senior running back Logan Kish has rushed for 840 yards, averaging 6.46 yards per carry, and a team-high 18 touchdowns. Junior quarterback Alex Wilkerson has passed for 771 yards and 14 touchdowns (with four interceptions) and rushed for 667 yards and 10 TDs.

The Lamar defense has been led by senior linebacker Khiler Nance (106 tackles, two sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one interception), senior defensive tackle Rourke Dillon (101 tackles, one forced fumble), junior defensive tackle Mario Delapena (79 tackles, 2.5 sacks, three fumbles recoveries, one forced fumble) and senior free safety Junior Romero (76 tackles, five interceptions).

Valle Catholic (12-1)

The Warriors have won 12 straight games since losing their season opener at Seckman and are averaging 45.9 points per game while allowing 11.5 points per contest.

Naeger's squad is averaging 412.9 total yards per game with 253.9 rushing yards and 159 passing yards.

Senior quarterback Grant Fallert has passed for 1,979 yards and 28 touchdowns (with two interceptions) and run for 1,204 yards and 16 scores. Senior running back Alex Viox has run for 1,366 yards, averaging 9.1 yards per carry, and 23 touchdowns. Leading receiver Tyler Gegg, a junior wide receiver, has 32 receptions for 670 yards and 12 touchdowns. 

The Warriors' defense has been led by junior linebacker Josh Fallert (102 tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery), senior defensive end Isaac Viox (92 tackles, seven sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries) and senior linebacker Andre Oberle (85 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries). Senior defensive end Cohen Gibbs has a team-high nine sacks.
