Georgia teams salute slain Jefferson High School football player Elijah DeWitt

Jefferson and Flowery Branch were opponents on the football field Friday night, but they stood united before the game in honor of Elijah DeWitt.

A 17-year-old senior wide receiver for Jefferson, DeWitt was shot and killed Oct. 5 at a mall parking lot in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

Fans and players from Jefferson and Flowery Branch held two fingers in the air together during a moment of silence before the game.

Flowery Branch also took a delay-of-game penalty in honor of DeWitt.

Jefferson senior quarterback Max Aldridge and defensive end Oscar Escobedo both wore No. 2, DeWitt's jersey.

Aldridge and DeWitt were next-door neighbors.

DeWitt, who played for Prince Avenue Christian as a junior but transferred back to his hometown school for his senior year, received his first college offer in May from Arkansas State. 

In six games this season, he had 22 catches for 594 yards and five touchdowns.
