Eli Manning was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft and a two-time Super Bowl champion with the New York Giants, and Arch Manning is the No. 1 overall recruit in the class of 2023 and a future Texas Longhorn.

To each other, however, they’re known simply as Uncle Eli and his nephew Arch.

Eli spoke with People recently, and he offered his perspective on Arch’s record-breaking season, upcoming move to the college level and how the teenager has handled living in the national spotlight for years.

"I've just been proud of Arch on how he's handled this whole situation," Eli told People. "I know there's been a lot of pressure on him, since he was a freshman in high school and was the starting quarterback."

As far as his nephew’s on-field performance, Eli didn’t have much to say. Then again, what can he say?

On Sept. 30, Arch broke the Isidore Newman record for career passing yards (7,268) previously owned by Eli, as well as the record for career touchdowns (93) set by Peyton.

“He’s broken all my records and Peyton’s records, so I don't know if he needs any more advice from me right now," Eli said.

Soon enough, Arch will graduate from Newman and trade in his green for burnt orange, and he'll have a new set of challenges to face (and records to break).

"It's all about trying to earn the respect of your teammates, your coaches, have a great work ethic and enjoy the college experience of whatever campus that you're at," Eli said.

Newman (5-1) has won two in a row since dropping its first game of the season to Many on Sept. 23. The Greenies will put that streak on the line next week against Metairie Park Country Day (4-3).
