J'Marion Burnette decommits from Auburn Tigers; Elite Alabama running back re-opens recruitment

Nation's No. 14 running back previously considered Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, Tennessee and others

One of the top class of 2024 high school running back prospects in the South more than hinted on Wednesday that he is newly available.

After Andalusia (Alabama) four-star J'Marion Burnette tweeted he was still committed to Auburn but his recruitment was "100% open" and he was "open to options," he made the news official on Thursday.

"As wonderful as Auburn is, it's just not the place for me at this time," Burnette told On3's Hayes Fawcett.

Burnette is a crafty and athletic back, especially considering his 6-foot-1, 225 pounds frame. He's the nation's No. 14 running back and the No. 10 prospect in Alabama in 2024, according to Rivals

"God's plan," Burnette tweeted Thursday in response to the news of his decommitment.

Burnette committed to Auburn in March, choosing the Tigers over Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee and several others.

In total, he racked up more than 20 offers and no apparent front-runners have emerged.

At Andalusia, he's been a multi-year standout ball-carrier.

Through his sophomore and junior seasons, Burnette totaled 513 carries for 3,724 rushing yards (7.3 yards per carry) and 29 touchdowns.
