IMG Academy upsets Oak Hill: Live score, high school boys basketball recap (2/10/2024)

The 2023-24 high school boys basketball season rolls on this weekend with more action from the EYBL Scholastic league. 

IMG Academy (Florida), ranked No. 17 in the latest SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 national rankings, hosts No. 11 Oak Hill Academy (Virginia) on Saturday in its second big matchup of the weekend.

On Friday, IMG Academy nearly took down No. 4 Long Island Lutheran (New York) but fell by two points in an overtime thriller.

Saturday's matchup features two future Michigan Wolverines playing against each other in Oak Hill's Christian Anderson and IMG's Khani Rooths. The Ascenders also have five-star point guard Darius Acuff Jr., a Michigan native who started his high school career at Cass Tech.

Acuff (22 points per game) and Anderson (18.5 ppg) are two of the top three scorers in the EYBL Scholastic league, with the junior Acuff currently holding the top spot.

The game is being streamed on YouTube by League Ready and is scheduled to tip off at 4:00 p.m. ET.

FOURTH QUARTER

-- A three by Christian Anderson misses, and IMG ices the game with a fastbreak score by Darius Acuff. The Ascenders win 77-70, improving to 16-8 this season. Oak Hill falls to 19-4 this season.

-- Acuff makes both shots, and IMG takes a 75-70 lead with 19.9 seconds left on the clock.

-- IMG forces a turnover, and Oak Hill is forced to start fouling. Darius Acuff will go to the line for two shots following a timeout.

-- After Micah Robinson knocks down a pair of free throws to make it a one-point game, Darius Acuff drains a floater on the other end for IMG. The Ascenders lead 73-70 with 50 seconds left.

-- Darius Acuff gets out in transition for an open dunk, putting IMG back up by three points with 1:50 to go. 

-- Christian Anderson goes 2-for-2 from the free throw line to give Oak Hill its first lead of the quarter, 68-67.

-- Oak Hill senior and Vanderbilt commit Jamie Vinson fouls out with four minutes to go in the fourth quarter. That's a big loss for the Warriors down low.

-- Halfway through the fourth quarter, IMG leads 65-64. Oak Hill senior Christian Anderson is up to 22 points, six rebounds and eight assists, and he just hit a nasty stepback jumper to cut IMG's lead to one point.

-- Four-star Oak Hill junior Deondrea Lindsey goes 1-for-2 at the free throw line, tying the game at 60-60 with 6:30 to go in the quarter.

THIRD QUARTER

-- Darius Acuff misses a floater to end the third quarter, but IMG holds a 60-57 lead entering the fourth quarter. 

-- Oak Hill and IMG trade threes from TCU signee Micah Robinson and Houston signee Chase McCarty. Both teams are heating up from long range here in the third quarter.

-- Anderson knocks down his fourth three of the game and now has 20 points. Oak Hill trails by three, 53-50.

-- IMG can't seem to build a lead bigger than seven points. Each time they have led by seven, Oak Hill responds with a small run. Christian Anderson (17 points) sinks another three for the Warriors to cut the Ascenders' lead to 51-47.

-- Houston commit Chase McCarty makes his first three-pointer of the game, pushing IMG's lead back to five points after a couple baskets by Oak Hill.

-- Khani Rooths opens the second half with a three ball to extend IMG's lead to 42-37.

SECOND QUARTER

-- Anderson finds Jamie Vinson under the basket, and Vinson gets a shot off right before the buzzer sounds. Oak Hill cuts the deficit to two points, with IMG leading 39-37 after the first half.

-- The Michigan commits Christian Anderson and Khani Rooths trade buckets (and highlight plays). 

-- Darius Acuff heads to the bench with three fouls. Still with two minutes to go in the first half, that could play a factor down the stretch.

-- IMG extends its lead to five points after Khani Rooths converts the and-one. The Ascenders lead 34-29 with a little more than two minutes to go in the first half.

-- Senior guard Gerard O'Keefe nails back-to-back threes for IMG Academy to tie the game up, 27-27. The Columbia commit has knocked down some big shots for the Ascenders this weekend.

-- Christian Anderson makes a couple smart decisions on fastbreaks. He dishes it off to Micah Robinson for a bucket then keeps it himself the next time down the court. Oak Hill leads 21-17 early in the quarter.

FIRST QUARTER

-- It's all tied up at 17 after one quarter. It looked like Oak Hill would win the first quarter before a scoring outburst by Darius Acuff (10 points) late in the quarter.

-- Darius Acuff adds ten points in a matter of seconds for IMG gives the Ascenders  their first lead of the game, 17-14.  The five-star junior hit a pair of free throws followed by a layup and a pair of threes.

-- Notre Dame commit Cole Certa gets the scoring started for IMG Academy with a three pointer from the wing.

-- Oak Hill wins the tipoff and scores on the game's opening possession. Michigan signee Christian Anderson nails a fadeaway three from the corner to give the Warriors the early 3-0 lead.

-- A top 20 matchup is about to get started in Southwest Florida between No. 11 Oak Hill Academy and No. 17 IMG Academy.
