North Carolina athlete of the week (3/17/2024)?
We have 10 athletes nominated this week for SBLive’s South Carolina High School Athlete of the Week from March 11-16 and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Saturday, March 23 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week’s poll.

Here are this week's nominees:
Lauren Arnold, West Rowan, Girls Basketball
Arnold scored 17 points and grabbed 17 rebounds as the Falcons beat Terry Sanford 64-52 to win their second straight 3-A state championship. The 5-foot-11 senior got MVP honors.
Josh Dalton, Central Cabarrus, Boys Basketball
Dalton scored 22 points for the Vikings, who walloped Seventy-First 90-62 to win their second straight 3-A state championship and nation-leading 65th consecutive game.
Joscelyn Stamper, Cherokee, Girls Basketball
The 6-foot-2 freshman center scored 17 points and secured 14 rebounds as Cherokee crushed East Columbus 74-32 to win the 1-A state championship, the program’s first since 1966.
Ben Ferguson, Wilson Prep, Boys Basketball
Ferguson scored 32 points, shooting 13-of-23 from the floor, to get MVP honors as Wilson Prep edged Corvian Community School 65-63 to win the 1-A state championship.
Maddox Nelson, South Stokes, Baseball
Nelson was 4-for-4 with a triple and 7 RBIs as the Sauras pummeled Alleghany 15-0 in five innings. And there’s more. Nelson, a Ferrum College commit, threw a one-hitter with nine strikeouts.
Mary Peyton Hodge, Oak Grove, Softball
Hodge threw a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts as the Grizzlies rolled over Rockingham County 9-0.
Jordan Speller, North Pitt, Girls Basketball
Speller had 31 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists as North Pitt downed East Burke 76-66 to win the 2-A state championship.
Caitlyn Jones, Rolesville, Girls Basketball
Jones scored 27 points, including the go-ahead basket, as Rolesville came from behind to beat Charlotte Catholic 65-58 in the 4-A state championship. The 5-foot-8 junior point guard, who got MVP honors, had seven assists.
Kendre Harrison, Boys Basketball
The 6-foot-7 two-sport star had 19 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocked shots as undefeated Reidsville beat defending champion Farmville Central 78-77 in overtime to win the 2-A state championship. Harrison, a sophomore, has basketball offers from Wake Forest, Florida State and Texas A&M. He was 23 offers from Power 5 schools in football.
Isaiah Evans, North Mecklenburg, Boys Basketball
Evans, a Duke commit, scored 23 points as the Vikings beat previously undefeated New Hanover 57-47 to win the 4-A state championship. The 6-foot-7 senior scored over 2,000 points for his career and is a McDonald’s All-American.
