Ohio's top high school softball players: Meet the state’s best third basemen

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be taking a look at some of the top softball players in Ohio.

We started with the top first basemen, then second basemen and shortstops, and now we round out the infield with the hot corner.

Note: Many high school softball players excel at multiple positions. Don't be alarmed to see a starting shortstop or ace pitcher listed here as a third baseman, for example.

Abbie Bickenheuser, Westfall, senior

She hit nine home runs last season and drove in team-high 35 RBIs for a team who won their conference and a district title.

Kennedy Cowan, Anthony Wayne, senior

Earned honorable mention all-Ohio honors last season as she led Anthony Wayne with a .532 batting average. She also had 17 doubles, 12 home runs and 55 RBI. She has signed to play college softball at IUPUI.

Taylor Gerring, Archbishop Hoban, sophomore

Gerring hit .422 with 25 RBI as a freshman and can play either third base or outfield for the Knights. She is the complete player who hits for average, power, and can hit to all fields. She is fast, aggressive and smart on the base paths.

Abby Gindlesberger, Marysville, senior

She can play multiple positions but saw most of her playing time at the hot corner. She hit .510 with 15 doubles and nine home runs while driving in 42 runs as a junior to earn an honorable mention all-Ohio nod.

Kaylee Haines, Mapleton, senior

Haines hit.488 with 40 hits, 17 RBIs and six home runs last season and was one of the most consistent hitters in the area. Haines also scored 45 runs and stole 17 bases.

Katlyn Jardine, Heath, senior

An All-Ohio honorable mention selection as a junior, Jardine hit over .500 with more than 40 RBIs last season. Her power was on display in the district semifinal, when she hit a walk-off grand slam to lead Heath to a 6-2 win over Buckeye Valley.

Faith Kiko, North Canton Hoover, senior

She was a Division I all-Ohio first-team pick last year when she hit .490 with three home runs, 38 RBIs and 28 runs. She shows her versatility by playing both catcher and third base. She has committed to Mount Union to continue her softball career.

Evelyn Lynn, Canton South, sophomore

As a freshman, she set the school record with 16 home runs and hit .507 with 40 RBIs. She can play multiple positions, including third base, shortstop and catcher.

Grace O’Malley, Brecksville, senior

The University of Toledo signee hit .539 last season with five doubles, four homers and 40 RBIs to earn second-team Division I all-district honors. She finished her junior campaign with 48 hits and 34 runs scored.

Paige Ogden, Ursuline, senior

The senior shows a good eye and patience at the plate and hit .511 last season. She also hits for power, slugging nine home runs and nine doubles last year with 40 RBIs.

Marlee Pireu, Massillon Perry, sophomore

Pireu started as a freshman on the Panthers team that won the Division I state title last season. She held her own in her first season of high school softball, hitting .320 with three home runs, 34 RBIs and 15 runs while spending most of her time in the middle of the order.

Delaney Reggi, Sebring, senior

The lefty hit over .300 last season while showing the ability to hit for average and power. A three-sport athlete who plays volleyball and basketball as well as softball, she was also named the Sebring High School homecoming queen this past fall.

Zoe Rensel, Tallmadge, junior

A powerful player who hits in the middle of the Tallmadge lineup, Rensel hit .414 last season with a .931 slugging percentage and broke the school’s home run record by going deep 10 times. She also had 11 doubles, which tied the school record. Her willingness to lead her teammates stands out.

Halle Reveal, Hillsboro, sophomore

As a freshman, Reveal hit .375 in helping Hillsboro go undefeated in conference play. She can play third base and also takes her turns in the pitching circle for the Lady Indians.

Brianna Sawyers, Licking Valley, senior

Sawyers earned an honorable mention all-Ohio nod last season when she hit .546 from the leadoff spot with six home runs, 18 doubles, three triples, 27 RBIs and 40 runs scored. She was also named first-team all-district and first-team all-league in a league where four teams ended up in the state semifinals. She has an outstanding glove to go along with her offensive skill set. She has committed to play at St. Francis University in Pennsylvania.

Jaycee Taylor, Hamilton, junior

Taylor hit .500 with 20 RBIs as a sophomore to earn first-team all-conference honors. She also garnered an honorable mention all-district nod last season.

Brooklyn Ury, Uniontown Lake, senior

Ury hit .465 with an on-base percentage of .505 last season. She is an excellent offensive player with a variety of skills, from drag bunting to power slapping. Her quick decision making, speed and ability to read defenses makes her a threat to opponents at the plate. She can play third base or middle infield for the Blue Streaks.

Suzzy Wall, Waverly, senior

Wall was named second-team all-Ohio last season when she set school records with 15 doubles and 38 RBIs. A versatile defender, she can play third base, shortstop or catcher.

Shelby Westler, River Valley, senior

Westler hit .506 with 19 doubles and 35 RBIs last season to earn honorable mention all-Ohio honors. She can play multiple positions and is most comfortable on the left side of the infield. She has committed to Ohio University.

Sophia Wygast, Whitmer, junior

Set a school record with 12 home runs last year to earn second-team all-Ohio honors. She also hit .570 and drove in 56 runs. She has committed to the University of Akron.
