SBLive Power 25 Ohio baseball rankings: Archbishop Moeller still atop list as 10 new teams enter

Badin and St. Ignatius remain No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, while Medina debuts at No. 8

Of the 25 teams teams in this week’s rankings, 10 were unranked last week. Still, though, the top three of Cincinnati Moeller, Hamilton Badin and Cleveland St. Ignatius remains the same as a week ago.

Here’s week three of the SBLive Ohio Power 25 baseball rankings:

1. Archbishop Moeller (11-2)

Last week: No. 1

The Crusaders have put together a seven-game winning streak to remain atop the rankings. Among their most recent wins was a 4-2 decision April 17 over Cincinnati LaSalle to give them a season sweep of their GCL-South Division opponent.

2. Hamilton Badin (12-0)

Last week: No. 2

It’s been a particularly impressive stretch for the Rams, who beat Dayton Carroll 10-0 on April 14 and 11-0 on April 17 and downed Kettering Alter 11-1 on April 18.

3. St. Ignatius (6-1)

Last week: No. 3

The Wildcats lost to Statesboro (Georgia) Premier Academy 7-2 on April 12 but bounced back with consecutive wins over Summerville (South Carolina) Cane Bay 10-2 on April 13 and 2-1 on April 14.

4. Defiance (9-1)

Last week: No. 9

The Bulldogs have posted three consecutive shutouts, defeating Van Wert 11-0 on April 14, Eaton 12-0 on April 15 and Lima Shawnee 6-0 on April 18.

5. Pemberville Eastwood (12-0) 

Last week: No. 14 

The Eagles have been challenged of late while remaining unbeaten, having edged Dayton Chaminade Julienne 6-5 on April 15 and Genoa Area 8-7 on April 18.

6. Jonathan Alder (11-0)

Last week: No. 7

The Pioneers edged Lewistown Indian Lake 7-5 on April 14 and blew past New Carlisle Tecumseh 10-0 on April 18 to continue their perfect start.

7. Olentangy Liberty (9-2)

Last week: No. 15

The Patriots have won three in a row since losing 5-2 to Upper Arlington on April 12, including defeating Hilliard Bradley 12-2 on April 18.

8. Medina (10-2)

Last week: Unranked

The Bees have shaken off a slow start by winning their last 10 games, including sweeping Solon 5-3 on April 11 and 7-4 on April 12 and beating Brunswick 10-0 on April 18.

9. Fredericktown (11-0)

Last week: No. 11

After posting three consecutive double-digit victories, the Freddies beat Barnesville 4-1 and Fairfield Christian 6-0 in a doubleheader April 15.

10. Mason (5-2)

Last week: No. 22

Coach Curt Bly earned his 200th career victory as the Comets beat Cincinnati Oak Hills 4-2 on April 17. The Comets also beat the Highlanders 5-1 on April 14.

11. Gates Mills Gilmour Academy (8-0)

Last week: Unranked

The Lancers continued a perfect start by beating Shaker Heights 6-5 on April 12 and Chesterland West Geauga 10-0 on April 14 to move into the rankings.

12. Lincolnview (6-1)

Last week: No. 21

With a 15-4 win over Pandora Gilboa on April 13, the Lancers posted their third consecutive victory as Dane Ebel had three hits, four RBI, four runs scored and one stolen base.

13. Berlin Hiland (9-1)

Last week: No. 24

The Hawks have won three in a row, following a 10-0 win over Bellville Clear Fork on April 13 by defeating Lore City Buckeye Trail 8-3 on April 14 and Magnolia Sandy Valley 15-0 on April 18.

14. Chillicothe Unioto (8-1)

Last week: Unranked

The Shermans have scored in double digits in four consecutive games, including beating Chillicothe Zane Trace 12-2 on April 14 and Chillicothe 13-3 on April 18.

15. Walsh Jesuit (6-2)

Last week: No. 23

After losing to Orchard Lake (Michigan) St. Mary’s Prep 1-0 on April 12, the Warriors beat Chardon 10-0 on April 15 and Parma Padua Franciscan 11-7 on April 18.

16. Washington Court House (11-1)

Last week: Unranked

The Blue Lions have yet to lose a game in April. They edged Dayton Oakwood 7-6 on April 13 and Jackson 4-2 on April 14 and then downed Washington Court House Miami Trace 14-0 on April 18 for their 10th consecutive win.

17. Russia (10-1)

Last week: No. 6

Ending the Raiders’ perfect start was a 3-0 loss to Coldwater on April 14. Russia defeated Botkins 5-0 on April 18.

18. Findlay Liberty-Benton (9-1)

Last week: No. 8

The Eagles lost 12-2 to Georgetown (Kentucky) Great Crossing on April 14 but won their next two, including defeating Arcadia 12-0 on April 18.

19. Wayne Trace (9-1)

Last week: Unranked

The Raiders have won seven in a row, including beating Hicksville 8-2 on April 13, Kalida 7-6 on April 14 and Defiance Ayersville 8-1 on April 18.

20. South Range (10-1)

Last week: Unranked

After defeating Abbeville (South Carolina) 12-6 in nine innings April 13, the Raiders edged Williamsburg (Virginia) Walsingham Academy 7-6 on April 14 to earn a spot in the rankings.

21. Tiffin Calvert (8-1)

Last week: Unranked

The Senecas continued their impressive start by beating Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic 9-0 on April 14 and Greenwich South Central 12-3 on April 15 before losing to Willard 11-10 in eight innings April 18.

22. Coldwater (8-2)

Last week: Unranked

The Cavaliers lost 7-2 to New Bremen on April 13 but followed with shutout wins over Russia (3-0 on April 14) and Fort Recovery (4-0 on April 15).

23. Canfield (8-2)

Last week: Unranked

Another team back in the rankings after being No. 17 initially and dropping out last week is Canfield, which beat Warren Howland 8-4 on April 17 and 8-6 on April 18.

24. Grove City (8-3)

Last week: Unranked

The Greyhounds have moved back into the rankings after being 10th on the initial list. They bounced back from an 11-3 loss to Orchard Lake (Michigan) St. Marys’s Prep on April 15 by beating Pickerington North 7-3 on April 18.

25. Wapakoneta (9-3)

Last week: No. 4

After winning five in a row, the Redskins lost consecutive games to St. Marys Memorial (7-4 on April 14) and Tiffin Columbian (7-6 on April 15) before bouncing back with a 3-1 win over Van Wert on April 17.
