SBLive Power 25 Ohio baseball rankings: Jonathan Alder is the new No. 1

Bishop Watterson jumps to No. 3; Dublin Scioto, Kettering Fairmont, Wooster, Greeneview enter rankings

Only a trio of teams remain undefeated, including Jonathan Alder, which is the second-ranked team in the Division II state poll and moves into the No. 1 spot in the SBLive Power 25 rankings.

New to the rankings are Dublin Scioto, Jamestown Greeneview, Kettering Fairmont and Wooster.

Here’s week five of the SBLive Ohio Power 25 baseball rankings:

1. Jonathan Alder (17-0)

Last week: No. 2

The Pioneers defeated Springfield Kenton Ridge 4-1 on April 26 and followed with a 12-1 victory over Bellefontaine Benjamin Logan on April 27 to remain undefeated.

2. Pemberville Eastwood (16-0)

Last week: No. 3

After beating Bloomdale Elmwood 12-2 on April 26, the Eagles beat Sandusky Perkins 9-0 on April 27 for their fifth shutout of the season.

3. Columbus Bishop Watterson (17-0)

Last week: No. 10

The Eagles swept CCL-rival Columbus DeSales 5-2 on April 26 and 7-1 on April 28 and then beat Hunting Valley University School 8-5 on April 29 to remain undefeated.

4. Defiance (14-1)

Last week: No. 4

The Bulldogs defeated Elida 5-0 on April 26 and gave up just one hit while defeating Toledo Central Catholic 2-1 on April 27.

5. Hamilton Badin (19-1)

Last week: No. 1 

The Rams lost to Fairmont 4-3 on April 29 to slip out of the top spot. That followed wins over Cincinnati McNicholas 10-0 on April 26, Cincinnati LaSalle 13-0 on April 27 and Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy 8-3 on April 28.

6. Archbishop Moeller (16-3)

Last week: No. 6

After losing to Cincinnati Elder 6-5 on April 24, the Crusaders beat the Panthers 7-1 on April 26. Moeller then defeated Hebron (Kentucky) Conner 1-0 on April 27.

7. St. Ignatius (13-3)

Last week: No. 7

The Wildcats defeated Mayfield 7-0 on April 25, Strongsville 3-1 on April 27 and North Ridgeville 5-3 on April 29.

8. Olentangy Liberty (17-2)

Last week: No. 9

The Patriots have won 11 in a row, including defeating Olentangy Orange 3-2 on April 26 and 5-4 on April 28 and Buckeye Valley 14-4 and Watkins Memorial 5-3 on April 29.

9. Washington Court House (16-1)

Last week: No. 11

The Blue Lions have won 15 in a row, including beating Jackson 5-2 on April 26 and Washington Court House Miami Trace 1-0 on April 28.

10. Berlin Hiland (15-1)

Last week: No. 12

Now on a nine-game winning streak, the Hawks defeated Sugarcreek Garaway 6-0 on April 26 and 3-2 in eight innings on April 27 and Toledo Ottawa Hills 8-2 on April 29.

11. Wayne Trace (14-1)

Last week: No. 13

The Raiders have won 12 in a row, including defeating Ottoville 4-0 on April 26 and Paulding 11-1 on April 27.

12. Mason (16-3)

Last week: No. 8

After beating Cincinnati Princeton 1-0 on April 26, the Comets lost to Kings Mills Kings 2-1 on April 27. They bounced back to beat Cincinnati Colerain 2-0 on April 28.

13. Walsh Jesuit (12-2-1)

Last week: No. 14

The Warriors defeated Cuyahoga Falls 10-0 on April 26 and Peninsula Woodridge 13-1 on April 29.

14. Thornville Sheridan (20-3)

Last week: No. 15

Winners of 11 in a row, the Generals have won their second consecutive Muskingum Valley League title. Sheridan defeated Duncan Falls Philo 8-3 on April 26.

15. Medina (14-3)

Last week: No. 16

By beating Strongsville 14-0 on April 25 and 4-3 on April 26, the Bees secured their second consecutive GCC championship.

16. Dublin Scioto (16-3)

Last week: Unranked

After losing three of their first five, the Irish enter the rankings on a 14-game winning streak. Scioto defeated Franklin Heights 26-2 on April 26 and Whetstone 9-0 on April 27.

17. Fredericktown (16-1)

Last week: No. 5

The five-time defending Division III district champions had a 15-game winning streak snapped with a 12-8 loss to Columbus DeSales on April 27. On April 29, the Freddies beat Marion Pleasant 14-1.

18. Chillicothe Unioto (14-2)

Last week: No. 19

The Shermans bounced back from a 4-3 loss to Chillicothe Huntington on April 25 by beating Piketon 11-2 on April 26.

19. Russia (15-2)

Last week: No. 20

The Raiders crushed Houston 25-0 on April 26 and defeated St. Paris Graham 12-2 on April 29.

20. Tiffin Calvert (14-1)

Last week: No. 21

The Senecas have won six in a row, including beating Old Fort 11-0 on April 26 and McComb 5-0 on April 27.

21. Coldwater (14-2)

Last week: No. 22

Winners of eight in a row, the Cavaliers are coming off a week that included beating Maria Stein Marion Local 6-0 on April 27 and Findlay Liberty-Benton 10-0 on April 29.

22. Kettering Fairmont (16-3)

Last week: Unranked

The Firebirds lost to Centerville 7-1 on April 24 but won their next four, beating the Elks 2-1 on April 26, Sidney 11-1 on April 27, Huber Heights Wayne 2-0 on April 28 and Hamilton Badin 4-3 on April 29.

23. Wooster (13-2)

Last week: Unranked

The Generals move into the rankings after a week that included beating Mansfield Senior 10-1 on April 25 and 13-3 on April 26.

24. Jamestown Greeneview (16-2)

Last week: Unranked

The Rams enter the rankings on a five-game winning streak that included defeating South Charleston Southeastern 10-0 on April 25 and New Lebanon Dixie 10-2 on April 26.

25. Massillon Jackson (15-4)

Last week: No. 25

After beating Uniontown Lake 8-6 in eight innings April 26 and Archbishop Hoban 9-5 on April 28, the Polar Bears lost to Mayfield 3-2 on April 29 to end a six-game winning streak.
