Final SBLive Oklahoma Top 25 boys basketball rankings: Tulsa Memorial avenges loss to Del City to win 6A title, finish season No. 1 overall

When Tulsa Memorial previously faced Del City, the Eagles erased a 15-0 deficit to hand the Chargers a defeat.

The Chargers hadn't lost since, and in a much-anticipated rematch with Del City, this time for the 6A championship, Memorial made sure it didn't relinquish another double-digit advantage.

As a result, Tulsa Memorial claimed the 6A title and vaulted to the No. 1 spot in the final SBLive Oklahoma high school boys basketball rankings for the 2021-22 season. 

1. Tulsa Memorial (27-1)

The Chargers ended the season on a 14-game winning streak following their loss to Del City in the title game of the Tournament of Champions in Tulsa. Memorial ended the season with a flourish, posting a convincing 75-50 win in the 6A semifinals against a strong Oklahoma City Southeast squad before getting payback on Del City with a 59-47 win for the title.

2. Kingfisher (28-1)

Much wasn't expected of the Yellowjackets going into the season after graduating all five starters from a back-to-back state championship squad. But Kingfisher simply reloaded and ended the season with 14 straight wins, capped by a 51-43 win against Victory Christian to three-peat as 4A champions.

3. Dale (29-2)

Even without any senior starters, the Pirates put together a strong season. They ended the regular season with a loss to Cashion but got payback on the Wildcats in the 2A championship game. Behind a 37-point performance from sophomore Dayton Forsythe, the Pirates paid back Cashion with a 65-58 win for the title.

4. Edmond North (24-5)

The Huskies ended the season winning 13 of their last 14 ballgames to claim the 6A championship. They had an impressive run in the state tournament, beating Jenks in the quarterfinals (62-52) before knocking off favored Booker T. Washington in the semifinals (76-69). The Huskies went on to record a 56-50 win against Moore in the title game, hours after Edmond North's girls won a title of their own.

5. Oklahoma City Millwood (22-6)

Millwood added to its impressive championship legacy with a memorable 3A title game win, beating Community Christian (53-50) on a buzzer-beating shot from Chance Davis. The Falcons, who also got past Marlow in overtime in the semifinals (44-42), ended the season with eight straight wins and 12 wins in their last 13.

6. Del City (24-4)

Del City had reeled off 21 straight wins, but the Eagles couldn't extend that streak to 22 at the most opportune time. They lost to Tulsa Memorial in the 6A title game after having beaten the Chargers for the Tournament of Champions title in late December.

7. Tulsa Booker T. Washington (24-3)

The Hornets appeared to be the odds-on favorite to win it all in 6A. But after an 81-72 quarterfinal win against Norman North, they were upended by Edmond North in the semifinals.

8. Oklahoma City Southeast (22-3)

Southeast entered the 5A state tournament on a roll. The Spartans posted their 13th consecutive win with a 66-53 win against Bishop McGuinness in the quarterfinals, but their ride came to an end with a lopsided loss to Tulsa Memorial in the semifinals.

9. Moore (21-8)

The Lions put together an impressive march to the 6A title game, winning six of seven after a quarterfinal win against Putnam City West (53-48) and a semifinal win against Edmond Santa Fe (64-55). However, Moore's stirring run ended in the finals to Edmond North.

10. Victory Christian (25-5)

Following a tough loss to Holland Hall for the regional championship, the Conquerors won five straight elimination games to reach the 4A title game. But Victory wasn't able to pull off the ultimate do-or-die contest, falling by eight points to Kingfisher.

11. Edmond Memorial (22-5)

The Bulldogs were able to qualify for the 6A state tournament, but their season came to an end in the quarterfinals, falling 38-36 to fellow Edmond school Santa Fe.

12. Midwest City Carl Albert (21-8)

Carl Albert began the 5A state tournament by rolling, 60-25, against a very good Collinsville squad. But the Titans were then upended by Del City in the semifinals, 52-40.

13. Midwest City (19-9)

The Bombers qualified for the 5A state tournament with an overtime win against Ardmore. But Midwest City was unable to keep up with a motivated Tulsa Memorial squad in the quarterfinals, as the Chargers recorded a 78-37 win en route to the title.

14. Putnam City West (20-6)

The Patriots had as good a chance as any to come away with the 6A championship. But their season ended with a quarterfinal loss to Moore, which went on to play in the title game.

15. Oklahoma Christian School (23-6)

Entering the playoffs, OCS was ranked No. 1 in 3A. The Saints went into the postseason with momentum, and then won nine of 10 games after a 49-39 win against Vinita in the 3A quarterfinals. But OCS was upended, 66-59, in the semifinals by Community Christian.

16. Jenks (21-7)

After falling on their home court in the regional title game, the Trojans bounced back with decisive wins against Tahlequah and Broken Arrow to qualify for the 6A state tournament. The Trojans, though, were stopped by eventual champion Edmond North in the quarterfinals.

17. Cashion (24-6)

The Wildcats ran off 12 straight wins to reach the 2A title game before falling to Dale. But during that run, Cashion knocked off six ranked teams, including Dale as well as Morrison in the 2A semifinals, winning 57-37.

18. Collinsville (20-4)

Collinsville's basketball team wasn't able to join its football counterparts in claiming a gold ball as the Cardinals lost to Carl Albert in the 5A quarterfinals. But it was still a memorable season for the Cardinals, capped by their first area championship in more than 40 years.

19. Broken Arrow (18-7)

The Tigers had reeled off six straight wins to put them one win away from a trip to the 6A state tournament. But they weren't able to get that win, as Broken Arrow lost to Booker T. Washington and Jenks in the area round.

20. Marlow (22-4)

Marlow made it to the 3A state tournament and pulled off a 52-43 win against Roland in the quarterfinals. The Outlaws then went toe-to-toe with eventual 3A champion Millwood before coming up short in overtime, 44-42.

21. Pocola (26-2)

The Indians entered the 2A state tournament on a roll, having reeled off 22 straight wins. But that run came to a sudden end in the quarterfinals, as Pocola was stymied by Silo, 55-38.

22. Glencoe (30-2)

Glencoe ended its season with 10 straight wins, capped by a 46-45 win against No. 1 ranked Roff to claim the Class B championship.

23. Tushka (24-8)

Tushka wrote one of the biggest storybook finishes in years, winning the Class A title despite entering the postseason unranked. During the Tigers' 11-game winning streak to end the season, they beat eight ranked foes, including Class A teams that were ranked No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 8. 

24. Weatherford (23-7)

The Eagles reached the 4A state tournament and opened play with an impressive 77-63 win against title contender Heritage Hall. They nearly knocked off another contender in the semifinals, but Victory Christian pulled off a 54-51 decision.

25. Community Christian School (23-9)

CCS was ranked just inside the top 15 in 3A entering the playoffs, but the Royals made it all the way to the championship game. They opened the 3A state tournament with a 53-49 win against Weatherford before defeating top-ranked Oklahoma Christian School, 66-59, in the semifinals. The Royals nearly pulled off the championship before a last-second shot by Millwood ended a thrilling title contest.
