SBLive Oklahoma Top 25 boys basketball rankings: Rankings stay largely intact as big-school playoffs start

Oklahoma high school basketball playoffs begin for Class 5A and 6A teams this week, with regionals set for Friday and Saturday.

Classes 2A, 3A and 4A will also play regionals this weekend, while Classes A and B will hold their area tournaments, narrowing down the fields to the eight state tournament teams.

Very few boys upsets happened last week, so the rankings stayed largely the same, though the top two teams in the rankings did have to fight just to earn wins against tough competition. Here are SBLive Oklahoma’s rankings of the top 25 boys high school basketball teams.

Note: Rankings and records are from games through Feb. 19.

1. Broken Arrow (22-0); last week (1)

The Tigers finished an unbeaten regular season, beating Tulsa Union by five before trouncing Muskogee by 26. They will face Muskogee once again at a home regional this week.

2. Putnam City North (22-1); last week (2)

Putnam City North pulled out a one-point win against Choctaw to finish the regular season.

The Panthers host Ponca City in their regional opener, and if they win, would face either Jenks or Putnam City West in the regional title game.

3. Dale (26-0); last week (3)

Dale blew out Wynnewood in the district tournament and heads to regionals. The Pirates could have a rematch of last year's state title game against Cashion in a regional title game.

4. Edmond North (20-2); last week (4)

The Huskies earned wins against Edmond Memorial and Edmond Santa Fe, and will face Midwest City in the regional opener.

5. Tulsa Memorial (19-3); last week (5)

The Chargers earned a two-point overtime win against Tulsa Edison and host Pryor in a regional opener on Friday.

6. Del City (15-5); last week (9)

Del City jumped up three spots after beating Midwest City Carl Albert. The Eagles will face McAlester this week in regionals.

7. Midwest City Carl Albert (18-5); last week (6)

The Titans only drop one spot after their loss to Del City, and are still the No. 1 seed in the 5A West bracket.

8. Weatherford (23-1); last week (7)

The Eagles beat Clinton in their district tournament, and play Woodward at regionals this week.

9. Kingfisher (20-3); last week (8)

Kingfisher beat the home-schooled OKC Storm by 20 and will play OKC John Marshall at regionals.

10. Fort Cobb-Broxton (25-1); last week (11)

The Mustangs beat Big Pasture to win their regional and now play Duke for a chance to make their 10th state tournament appearance in 11 years.

11. Roff (24-5); last week (13)

The Tigers beat Earlsboro by 12 and will play Buffalo Valley for a chance to go to the state tournament.

12. Caddo (20-2); last week (12)

Caddo struggled for a bit before beating Wilson in their regional championship. Now, the Bruins have a tough test against Apache in the area round.

13. OKC Crossings Christian (19-2); last week (14)

Crossings Christian beat Tecumseh in districts, and now faces Broken Bow in a regional that also features Tuttle and Madill.

14. Westmoore (16-7); last week (10)

The Jaguars, once one of the hottest teams in the state, lost to Norman North, making their third loss in four games. They open regional play against OKC Capitol Hill.

15. Oklahoma Christian School (22-2); last week (15)

After beating OKC Western Heights, the Saints play Cushing, with a chance to either play Elgin or Bethany.

16. OKC Douglass (20-1); last week (16)

Douglass beat Harding Charter in the district round and the Trojans now face Hilldale. A win would put them in a regional championship against either Wagoner or a Tulsa Victory Christian team that made the state championship game last year.

17. Tulsa Hale (17-4); last week (18)

The Rangers host Tulsa East Central in a regional that also features Shawnee and Tulsa Bishop Kelley.

18. Hennessey (20-3); last week (20)

After beating Watonga in districts, Hennessey heads to regionals against Sayre.

19. Norman (14-7); last week (21)

The Tigers beat Stillwater and host OKC Grant at their regional this week.

20. Bixby (19-4); last week (24)

The Spartans beat Sapulpa by 40 and then took care of Tulsa Booker T. Washington by 19. They now host Enid at regionals this week. Senior standout Parker Friedrichsen also announced his commitment to play next season at Wake Forest.

21. Tulsa Holland Hall (18-4); last week (19)

The Dutch lost to Owasso by 24 and host Tulsa Rogers in regionals.

22. Tulsa Edison (16-6); last week (17)

The Eagles lost twice last week, first to Tulsa Memorial in OT and then to Jenks. They will look to bounce back when they host Sapulpa in their regional.

23. Tulsa Metro Christian (21-2); last week (22)

The Patriots play Berryhill this week in a regional that also features Chandler and Washington.

24. Vanoss (22-3); last week (23)

The Wolves beat Drummond for the regional title, and will now play Okarche in the area championship.

25. OKC Southeast (13-6); last week (25)

Last week, the Spartans beat Lawton Eisenhower, one of the teams in Southeast’s host regional this weekend, along with Santa Fe South and Piedmont.
