Top 25 Oklahoma high school football rankings (10/11/2023)

With a few surprises in Class 6A last week, there has been some moving around in the new SBLive Oklahoma Top 25 football rankings heading into Week 7. 

District races are also heating up, though some might already be obvious considering the fact that the key game might have been played this past week.

Edmond Santa Fe has been a surprise this season and could likely be battling Tulsa Union and Owasso for the District 6AI-2 championship. The Timberwolves knocked off Mustang, 56-49, this past week, marking the Broncos' second straight loss after a 4-0 start.

As a result of the game, Santa Fe comes in at No. 22, while Mustang drops out.

Oklahoma high school football computer rankings (10/10/2023)

Norman North also fell out of the rankings after its 42-14 loss at home to Jenks last Thursday, while Owasso took the largest leap from 14th to 10th, after winning 54-30 at Edmond North.

In 6AII, Edmond Deer Creek returned for the first time since Week 1. The Antlers are at 25th after a 25-20 win against Choctaw, which dropped from eighth to 14th.

With Blanchard’s 20-6 win over Tuttle, the Lions took over first place in their district and replaced the Tigers at No. 24.

Unbeaten Elgin of Class 5A also debuts this season at No. 23.

1. Bixby (6-0 overall, 3-0 in District 6AI-1)

Previous Game: Beat Enid. 79-7

Ranking Last Week: No. 1

The Spartans put up the most points in a game this season in a 72-point runaway against Enid.

Bixby was already up 37-0 by the end of the first quarter and 72-0 by halftime, before the Plainsmen could get their lone touchdown in the third quarter.

The Spartans’ defense scored three TDs on interceptions, respectively, by Cody Crull, Trey McGlothlin and Sam McCormick, while keeping Enid to minus-29 yards rushing.

Jett Turner scored the first TD on a 6-yard run. The second came on the recovery of a blocked punt in the end zone. Crull made the block and Colton Kaiser recovered the ball for the TD that lifted Bixby to a 14-0 lead.

Turner finished with three TDs for the game.

Bixby scored 60 or more points for the fifth consecutive game, and now averages 64 points per game this season.

2. Midwest City Carl Albert (7-0, 3-0 in District 5A-2)

Previous Game: Beat OKC Southeast, 77-0

Ranking Last Week: No. 2

The Titans stayed perfect by racking up the TDs against Southeast.

Carl Albert surged to a 35-0 lead in the opening period, which included pick-sixes from Tristan Haynes and Trey Washington.

Junior quarterback and OU commit Kevin Sperry ran in the first TD from 6 yards and threw scoring passes of 14 and 24 to Haynes to make it 21-0. The interceptions followed.

Xavier Robinson, another OU commit, also scored a TD and rushed for 60 yards on two handoffs.

CA meets a Bishop McGuinness team this week that is coming off the receiving end of a shutout to Guthrie. The Blue Jays will be a threat to the Titans for the district title when they play at their place next week.

3. Tulsa Union (5-1, 3-0 in District 6AI-2)

Previous Game: Beat Norman, 65-0

Ranking Last Week: No. 3

Linebacker Isaiah Forbes led the Union defense with eight tackles and three sacks, while also returning an interception 59 yards as the Redhawks shut out the Tigers of Norman in a rout. The Union D also kept Norman to 15 yards rushing and 115 yards of total offense.

Shaker Reisig threw two TDs and 225 yards on 15-of-22 attempts. He also rushed for two scores on six carries for 41 yards.

Jordan Schelling ran for three TDs and 130 yards on 13 carries. He also scored another TD receiving.

Union faces Mustang next.

4. Wagoner (6-0, 3-0 in District 4A-3)

Previous Game: Beat Cushing, 15-14

Ranking Last Week: No. 4

Before the rematch of the 2022 Class 4A state championship game, the Bulldogs’ Witt Edwards announced before kickoff he would be committing to Vanderbilt. It was shown on a video board with him in rodeo action as a roper, revealing his decision by wearing a Vanderbilt T-shirt.

Quarterback Kale Charboneau scored both TDs in Wagoner’s win, on runs of 5 and 2 yards. He converted a two-point conversion after the first TD on a pass to Alex Shieldnight that lifted the Bulldogs to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter.

There was no scoring in the second half. The game may have decided the district title for 4A-3, won by Cushing last year.

5. Washington (6-0, 3-0 in District 2A-3)

Previous Game: Beat Crooked Oak, 49-0

Ranking Last Week: No. 5

It was another banner week for the 2A champion Warriors as they lambasted Crooked Oak. They play Lindsay this week, then will face Purcell next week in a game that could be for the District 2A-3 championship.

6. Guthrie (6-0, 2-0 in District 5A-2)

Previous Game: Beat OKC Bishop McGuinness, 20-0

Ranking Last Week: 6

Guthrie has now outscored its opponents, 249-3, after shutting out the Fighting Irish of McGuinness this past week. It markes the fifth shutout by the Blue Jays this season. Running back Jaylen Harper scored three TDs while running for 222 yards on 36 carries.

The Guthrie defense held McGuinness to minus-13 yards on the ground and 91 yards passing.

The Blue Jays’ game next week against Class 5A defending champion Carl Albert will be a major showdown that will likely decide the 5A-2 title.

7. OKC Heritage Hall (6-0, 3-0 in District 3A-2)

Previous Game: Beat OKC Douglass, 63-0

Ranking Last Week: No. 7

The defending 3A champion Chargers went on with business as usual with a rout of the Trojans.

Next Game: at Dickson (3-3, 0-3), Thursday

8. Muskogee (5-1, 3-0 in District 6AII-1)

Previous Game: Beat OKC U.S. Grant, 72-0

Ranking Last Week: No. 9

Jamarian Ficklin and company cruised to a 35-0 lead in the first quarter to set the tone for the Roughers’ onslaught of the Generals. Ficklin finished with 129 yards passing and five TD passes, including one for 76 yards to UNLV commit Kayden McGee.

Linebacker Tim Moore also recovered two fumbles for Muskogee, which moved up one spot.

9. Poteau (6-0, 3-0 in District 4A-4)

Previous Game: Beat Hilldale, 56-0

Ranking Last Week: No. 10

The Pirates pitched their second straight shutout and moved one spot up in the poll.

Next Game: vs. Broken Bow (1-4, 1-2), Friday

10. Owasso (4-2, 2-1 in District 6AI-2)

Previous Game: Beat Edmond North, 54-30

Ranking Last Week: No. 14

Facing a 23-20 deficit in the locker room, the Rams stormed out the second half by outscoring the Huskies, 34-7, for a 24-point win.

Edmond North scored first, but the Rams took a 7-6 lead after Knox Dyson threw an 18-yard TD pass to J’Kharri Thomas.

Chris Zaferis scored the first of four TDs from 5 yards before the first quarter. A missed PAT extended the Ram lead to 13-6. Zaferis got his other three scores from 3, 3 and 10 yards, all of which were Owasso’s final TDs that stretched a 33-30 game in the third quarter to its final outcome.

Jayden Hall scored three TDs, including a 50-yarder that put the Rams up by four, 27-23, early in the second half.

Owasso takes the biggest climb in the poll from 14th last week to No. 10 this week.

11. Tulsa Lincoln Christian (5-0, 2-0 in District 3A-3)

Previous Game: Beat Checotah, 54-20

Ranking Last Week: No. 11

Junior defensive end Dawson Fullingim had three sacks, and at fullback, he contributed to the Bulldogs’ 390 rushing yards in the win over the Wildcats. His teammates, Moses Fullingim and Sawyer Brooks, combined for 273 yards and two TDs each.

Another road challenge awaits this week.

12. Jenks (3-3, 2-1 in District 6AI-1)

Previous Game: Beat Norman North, 42-14

Ranking Last Week: No. 12

A 28-point first half by the Trojans is what they needed to rebound after losing to Westmoore the previous week.

Jenks took advantage of four turnovers in the first 24 minutes and was up 42-0 through the third quarter.

Kaydin Jones scored three TDs, including a 31-yard reverse. He finished with 119 yards on 15 carries. Simian Gilkey also had a rushing TD from 6 yards on a direct snap.

Owen Jones threw TD passes of 72 and 60 yards to Semaj Stanford and Ayden Christiansen, respectively.

Jenks stands in third place behind Bixby (6-0, 3-0) and Westmoore (4-2, 3-0), who are tied for first in District 6AI-1.

13. OKC Millwood (5-1, 3-0 in District 2A-1)

Previous Game: Beat Perry, 18-6

Ranking Last Week: No. 13

The Falcons continue their winning streak since losing their opener. They meet winless Newkirk this week before facing unbeaten Oklahoma Christian next week for a battle for first place in 2A-1.

14. Choctaw (3-1, 2-1 in District 6AII-2)

Previous Game: Lost to Edmond Deer Creek, 25-20

Ranking Last Week: No. 8

The Yellowjackets drop six spots down after coming up short against Deer Creek. They were shut out in the first half, before coming to life with their offense in the second half. But an attempted rally came up short.

Dehawn “JuJu” Smith scored all three of Choctaw’s TDs.

Next Game: vs. OKC NW Classen (1-5, 1-2), Thursday

15. Fairview (6-0, 3-0 in District A-1)

Previous Game: Beat Sayre, 69-8

Ranking Last Week: No. 15

The Yellowjackets continue to fly in their pursuit to repeat as state champions in Class A. They have already rocked two of the four teams that are one game behind them in their district tied for second place.

One is Mooreland, who is next on the schedule. But the Bearcats are below .500 with their overall record. Next week is a meeting against Texhoma-Goodwell (4-2, 2-1)

16. Hominy (6-0, 3-0 in District A-5)

Previous Game: Beat Morrison, 42-8

Ranking Last Week: No. 16

Another contender for the Class A title, Hominy also won in another rout with a 34-point margin over Morrison. It is likely headed for a showdown with Woodland, who is also unbeaten, on Oct. 27.

Next Game: at Chelsea (2-4, 1-2), Thursday

17. Del City (5-0, 3-0 in 5A-3)

Previous Game: Beat Sapulpa, 30-0

Ranking Last Week: No. 17

The Eagles got off to a fast start as they dominated the Chieftians. Del City remains unbeaten and ranked third in some Class 5A polls.

Next Game: vs. Tulsa Memorial (0-6, 0-3), Friday

18. Gore (6-0, 3-0 in District A-8)

Previous Game: Beat Pocola, 37-22

Ranking Last Week: No. 18

Quarterback Tate Brookshire threw four TD passes and ran for another in the Pirates’ win. They will be tested by an unbeaten Central Sallisaw team this week that could decide the title in District A-8.

Next Game: at Central Sallisaw (6-0, 3-0), Friday

19. Claremore (6-0, 3-0 in District 5A-4)

Previous Game: Beat Pryor, 33-32

Ranking Last Week: No. 19

The Zebras’ 6-0 start is their best since 1979, as an interception by Rex Clark in the final seconds sealed the win.

Next Game: vs. Tulsa Edison Prep (2-4, 1-2), Friday

20. Collinsville (5-1, 2-1 in District 5A-4)

Previous Game: Beat Tulsa Nathan Hale, 47-6

Ranking Last Week: No. 20

The Cardinals bounced back from their upset loss to Tulsa Bishop Kelley with a shellacking of Tulsa Nathan Hale at home. They host the Ropers of Will Rogers, another Tulsa Public School program, this week.

Previous Game: Beat Madill, 63-14

Ranking Last Week: No. 21

Xander Rhynes scored four TDs while carrying the ball 17 times for 100 yards in the Cougars’ rout of the Wildcats.

Ada also totaled 424 yards of offense.

22. Edmond Santa Fe (4-1, 3-0 in District 6AI-1)

Previous Game: Beat Mustang, 56-49

Ranking Last Week: Unranked

The Wolves have been a surprise this year. It started with an upset of Jenks on Week Zero; then came an upset of Mustang in a high-scoring battle last week.

They are now in the race for the district championship with games against Tulsa Union and Owasso in front of them.

23. Elgin (6-0, 3-0 in District 6AI-2)

Running back Matt Lund rushed for 195 yards on nine carries and 3 TDs and passed the 4,000-yard rushing mark for his career, and quarterback Tres Lorah was 5-for-7 with three TDs in Elgin’s romp over Altus.

24. Blanchard (5-1, 3-0 in District 4A-2)

The Lions have taken over the driver's seat in 4A-2 after defeating the Tigers in a first-place battle last week.

The Antlers are back in the poll for the first time since Week 1, after making three interceptions that impacted their upset win against the 6AII runner-up Yellowjackets.
