Oklahoma high school football Top 25 rankings (11/15/2023)

The playoffs began in Oklahoma high school football last week and there were not very many surprises. 

Every team in the SBLive Oklahoma Top 25 was either victorious in their first round game or they got a bye. 

As a result, not one team moved from where they were ranked in the previous list. That also means no one dropped out and no one moved in.

Here is this week's SBLive Oklahoma Top 25: 

1. Bixby (10-0 in Class 6AI)

Previous Game: Bye

Ranking Last Week: No. 1

With one week of rest, the unbeaten Spartans will resume their campaign for a second state championship in 6AI, a sixth straight state title, and a ninth in 10 years.

They will host a Norman team that is coming off a 21-18 win against Broken Arrow.

Next Game: vs. Norman (5-6), Friday

2. Midwest City Carl Albert (11-0 in Class 5A)

Previous Game: Beat El Reno, 49-21

Ranking Last Week: No. 2

The Titans took their first step in the postseason toward their goal of winning their second straight state crown by rolling through the Indians.

Next is Collinsville, pitting a battle of the last two state champs in 5A. Collinsville won the state championship in 2021. Before that, Carl Albert won five straight from 2016-20, so the Titans have got a dynasty going.

3. Wagoner (11-0 in Class 4A)

Previous Game: Beat Broken Bow, 57-7

Ranking Last Week: No. 3

Junior tight end/defensive lineman Alex Shieldnight announced his decision to commit to the University of Oklahoma prior to last week's game; then the Bulldogs wasted no time putting away the Savages.

Wagoner was up, 43-7, by halftime.

Shieldnight responded to his announcement by scoring two of the first three touchdowns, one rushing and one passing.

Fellow junior and quarterback Kale Charboneau completed 18 passes out of 23 attempts for 245 yards and four TDs. He also rushed for 51 yards and one TD on seven carries. He now has 2,361 career passing yards, breaking the school record set by Malcom Rodriguez, who went on to have a standout career at Oklahoma State and is now playing linebacker in the NFL for the Detroit Lions.

The Bulldogs now face Tuttle this week in the quarterfinals. Tuttle is often a gridiron powerhouse and ranked high every year and this year is no exception.

4. Washington (11-0 in Class 2A)

Previous Game: Beat Lexington, 55-7

Ranking Last Week: No. 4

The Warriors continue to dominate after dismantling Lexington in the first round of the 2A playoffs. They will seek to advance to the quarterfinals with a meeting against Meeker in the second round.

Next Game: vs. Meeker (7-4), Friday

5. OKC Heritage Hall (11-0 in Class 3A)

Previous Game: Beat North Rock Creek, 55-13

Ranking Last Week: No. 5

The Chargers had no problem with domination in their first-round playoff game against North Rock Creek. Next is Berryhill, a 37-16 winner over Verdigris.

Next Game: vs. Berryhill, Friday

6. Guthrie (10-1 in Class 5A)

Previous Game: Beat Lawton MacArthur, 49-21

Ranking Last Week: 6

The Bluejays may have not pitched a shutout and may have yielded the most points since it allowed 24 in their loss to Carl Albert in Week 8, but it won soundly.

The District 5A-2 runner-up will be challenged as they travel to meet Del City, which has a high-powered offense that has led the Eagles to an unbeaten record and the championship in District 5A-3.

7. Tulsa Union (9-1 in Class 6AI)

Previous Game: Bye

Ranking Last Week: No. 7

The Redhawks are back in action after a first-round bye. The question is will quarterback Shaker Reisig return after being out the past month with an injury.

They meet Westmoore, which beat Mustang, 43-38, last week.

Next Game: vs. Westmoore, Friday

8. Poteau (11-0 in Class 4A)

Previous Game: Beat Miami, 41-13

Ranking Last Week: No. 8

Senior and Tulsa commit Dax Collins had 174 yards in both rushing and receiving in the Pirates’ dismantling of the Wardogs.

Next Game: vs. Newcastle (9-2), Friday

9. Owasso (8-2 in Class 6AI)

Previous Game: Bye

Ranking Last Week: No. 9

The Rams return to action from the first-round bye and will host a competitive Norman North, which had been ranked in the Top 25 for most of the season until near the end.

It will be a challenge for the Rams, who made a surprise run to the 6AI final last year.

Next Game: vs. Norman North (9-2), Friday

10. Tulsa Lincoln Christian (11-0 in Class 3A)

Previous Game: Beat Bristow, 56-6

Ranking Last Week: No. 10

The Bulldogs mauled down the Pirates with a 50-point rout in the first round of the 3A playoffs.

Moses Fullingim rushed for 192 yards on 17 carries and two TDs.

Next on deck is a battle with another group of Bulldogs, Sulphur, which has won eight of its last nine games since an 0-2 start. Two of its losses have been to Washington and Heritage Hall, who are unbeaten and ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, in this week's poll.

Sulphur defeated Kingfisher, 42-7, in its first-round playoff game last week.

11. OKC Millwood (10-1 in Class 2A)

Previous Game: Beat Crossings Christian, 32-0

Ranking Last Week: No. 11

The Millwood defense, led by the likes of Cameron Carter, North Texas commit Micho Lavine, Terrnace Taffee and Tommy Fisher, kept Crossings Christian’s rushing game under control.

The unit also forced three interceptions in the game.

Next Game: vs. Purcell (9-2), Friday

12. Choctaw (7-1 in Class 6AII)

Previous Game: Bye

Ranking Last Week: No. 12

After a first-round bye, the Yellowjackets get back to action, hoping to return to the 6AII final where they finished runner-up a year ago.

They will meet a Sand Springs team that is coming off a 56-24 win against Lawton.

Next game: vs. Sand Springs (8-3), Friday

13. Fairview (11-0 in Class A)

Previous Game: Beat Hobart, 62-6

Ranking Last Week: No. 13

Making the move toward repeating as the Class A champion, these Yellowjackets quickly went to work to dismantle Hobart.

Next on their agenda is a quarterfinal match against Crescent, who barely beat Ringling, a state semifinalist from last year, 35-34.

14. Hominy (11-0 in A-5)

Previous Game: Beat Allen, 47-0

Ranking Last Week: No. 14

The Bucks managed to come up with a sound victory while allowing no points against Allen.

15. Stillwater (8-2 in Class 6AI)

Previous Game: Bye

Ranking Last Week: No. 15

The Pioneers overcame adversity from both the offseason and early in the season when they started 0-2. They have since won eight straight and won their district before having a first-round bye last week.

Now, they begin a quest for a repeat as 6AII state champions with a quarterfinal game this week against Putnam City, coming off a 41-21 win against Tahlequah.

16. Muskogee (8-2 in Class 6AII)

Previous Game: Bye

Ranking Last Week: No. 16

The Roughers commence action after getting a bye last week. They seek to bounce back after suffering a heartbreaking loss to Stillwater in their regular-season finale, which cost them the district championship for 6AII-2.

They meet Ponca City this week in the quarterfinals. The Wildcats are coming off a 27-21 win against Putnam City West.

17. Del City (10-0, in Class 5A)

Previous Game: Beat Pryor, 48-8

Ranking Last Week: No. 17

The Eagles had no trouble with afflicting a 40-point rout on Pryor.

But they face a challenge in the next round against Guthrie, which has shut out seven of its opponents in the regular season. The Bluejays have yielded 4.9 points per game this year.

18. Elgin (11-0 in Class 5A)

Previous Game: Beat Piedmont, 20-0

Ranking Last Week: 18

Matt Lund ran for 131 yards, marking the 10th straight game he reached the century mark, while the Owls shut out the Wildcats in a first-round 5A playoff game.

Next Game: vs. Claremore (10-1 in Class 5A), Friday

19. Claremore (10-1 in Class 5A)

Previous Game: Beat Sapulpa, 48-47

Ranking Last Week: No. 19

Senior wide receiver/defensive back Gage Deckard caught eight receptions and three TDs for 141 yards and recovered a game-clinching onside kick in the Zebras' wild high-scoring game that ended in a one-point win against Sapulpa.

They now travel on the road to play in a quarterfinal round at Elgin.

Next Game: at Elgin (11-0 in Class 5A), Friday

20. Jenks (6-4 in Class 6AI)

Previous Game: Bye

Ranking Last Week: No. 20

The Trojans got one week off with a bye after losing their regular-season finale to Bixby. They get to host Edmond Santa Fe, a 41-12 winner over Enid.

Jenks also has an opportunity to avenge a season-opening 27-26 loss to the Wolves.

Next Game: vs. Edmond Santa Fe (7-3), Friday

21. Blanchard (10-1 in Class 4A)

Previous Game: Beat Cache, 27-0

Ranking Last Week: 21

The Lions advance after a romp and shutout of Cache. Now they face a Sallisaw squad who has had a turnaround season, and is coming off a 35-28 upset win against Cushing, the 2022 4A runner-up.

Next Game: vs. Sallisaw (7-4), Friday

22. Edmond Deer Creek (8-2 in District 6AII-2)

Previous Game: Bye

Ranking Last Week: 22

The Antlers are another team that has rested up with a bye week and are back in action this week in the quarterfinals. They meet Bartlesville next at home.

Next Game: vs. Bartlesville (5-6), Friday

23. Tulsa Bishop Kelley (9-2 in Class 5A)

Previous Game: Beat McAlester, 36-21

Ranking Last Week: No. 23

A fumble recovery and a forced fumble made by senior defensive end/tight end and Air Force commit Sam Rhoades early in the game led to the Comets’ first two TDs for a 14-0 lead, eventually eliminating the 5A runner-ups of the last two seasons from the playoffs.

Rhoades also had two catches for 27 yards.

Kelley QB Stice Smith ran for two TDs and passed for another.

Next Game: vs. OKC Bishop McGuinness (7-3 in Class 5A), Friday

24. Collinsville (9-2 in Class 5A)

Previous Game: Beat Coweta, 23-20

Justice McMath kicked a 32-yard field goal as time expired to give the Cardinals a three-point victory on the road at Coweta.

That completed a 13-point comeback from a 10-point deficit for Collinsville.

After a 22-yard field goal by McMath lifted the Cardinals to a 3-0 lead in the opening quarter, Coweta moved out in front 13-3 in the first half and 20-10 in the third period.

Skyler Moorman threw two TDs in the game. His first to Jack Keith for 20 yards brought Collinsville to within 13-10 before halftime. Another 22-yard field goal by McMath brought the Cards to within 20-13 in the fourth, then Moorman got his second TD pass for 75 yards to Ben Daniels to tie the score.

The Cardinals now have the daunting task of playing Carl Albert, the No. 2 team in this week's poll, and the No. 1 team in 5A, on the road in the next round of the playoffs.

25. Ada (10-1 in Class 4A)

Previous Game: Beat Oologah, 34-7

Ranking Last Week: No. 25

The Cougars were able to devour the Mustangs and advance to the next round. They do have to hit the road, though, as they go to Clinton in a matchup between two of the more tradition-rich schools in 4A.

Next Game: at Clinton (7-3 in Class 4A), Friday
