Oklahoma high school boys basketball Top 25 rankings (2/15/2024)

OKC Douglass makes Top 5 despite loss to nationally ranked Texas squad

High school boys basketball teams in Oklahoma are wrapping up the regular season and have their eye on the gold ball.

The playoffs for Class A and B have started and their regionals are this week. Class 2A, 3A and 4A play districts this week. Class 5A and 6A playoffs begin next Thursday.

Here are this week’s SBLive Oklahoma Top 25 boys basketball rankings.

Note: Rankings and records are through Feb. 13.

1. Tulsa Union (21-2); last week (1)

Despite Union not being a district champion, and Owasso winning the district, the Redhawks barely hold the top spot from last week's rankings since they have a better record than the Rams. Tulsa Union also has most recently beaten Owasso as well. Tulsa Union wrapped up the regular season with a 26-point win over Edmond Memorial.

2. Owasso (20-3); last week (2)

Owasso is a district champion and is on a four-game winning streak since its loss to Tulsa Union. In the Rams' final games, they have won by more than 30 points and scored 91 points against a winless U.S. Grant team to wrap up the regular season and will play Ponca City in the first round of the playoffs.

3. Edmond North (18-3); last week (4)

The Huskies jumped Dale in the rankings because of their excellent play on the court in response to the 21-point loss to Moore. They beat Capitol Hill, 72-11, and a good Piedmont team, 69-21. Edmond North is district champions, but the Huskies wrap the regular season up with Edmond Santa Fe Friday and will play Lawton Eisenhower in the first round of the playoffs.

4. Dale (23-2); last week (3)

Dale is the clear favorite to three-peat in Class 2A and for good reason. The Pirates have ran most of their opponents out of the gym. They are riding a nine-game win streak heading into the playoffs and beat Cashion, 80-48, last Friday on the road. The Pirates begin their playoff run Saturday against Mounds.

5. OKC Douglass (13-4); last week (13)

Despite OKC Douglass losing a game, they jumped into the Top 5 because their loss was to Dynamic Prep (Texas), the 12th-ranked team in the country, by two points. In a game which could have gone either way, it was tied at 69, but Dynamic Prep hit the game-winner with 12 seconds to play. The Trojans responded with a win over Star-Spencer two nights later. Douglass begins its playoff journey Saturday against Harding Charter Prep.

6. Choctaw (18-4); last week (6)

The Yellowjackets are district champions and beat Jenks, 73-67, in overtime Tuesday. Ja’Mon Valentine - who is no stranger to dramatic moments - hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send this game into overtime and made many more impactful plays in overtime. Choctaw will play its first postseason game against U.S. Grant, which is still winless on the season.

7. Weatherford (22-1); last week (6)

Weatherford wrapped up the regular season Tuesday with a 52-point win over Clinton. The Eagles also beat a solid Blanchard team, 59-51, on the road. They will host Woodward Friday to begin their playoff run.

8. Midwest City Carl Albert (16-4); last week (8)

The Titans are district champions in what is arguably the toughest district in Class 5A. They wrapped up the regular season with a two-point win over OKC Crossings Christian and routs over OKC Western Heights and Altus. Carl Albert will play Noble in the playoffs.

9. OKC Crossings Christian (16-6); last week (5)

The Knights lost to Guthrie Tuesday evening by three and lost to Midwest City Carl Albert. Despite the tough losses, teams in front of them kept winning games. However, Crossings Christian still are favorites in a loaded Class 5A.

10. Edmond Deer Creek (18-5); last week (9)

The Antlers finished second in their district and have won three games in a row since their last loss to Moore. Last week, they dominated Piedmont, 81-49, and beat OKC Capitol Hill, 85-39. Deer Creek will play Yukon in the first round of the playoffs.

Haworth (Oklahoma) boys basketball team sets state record for most 3-pointers in one game

11. Midwest City (20-3); last week (11)

The Bombers are district champions and finished the regular season with style points. They beat OKC Southeast, 103-44, which is the second time they scored more than 100 points against the Spartans this season. Midwest City will play Western Heights in the playoffs.

12. Tulsa Booker T. Washington (20-1); last week (12)

The Hornets are district champions and have not lost a game in 2024. They wrapped up the regular season with an 85-46 win over Tahlequah. For its first playoff game, Booker T. Washington will host McAlester next week.

13. Norman (18-4); last week (15)

The Tigers are district champions and are determined to get back to the state tournament. They beat a tough Lawton team, 57-53, last week and took care of business at Lawton Eisenhower with an 83-37 win. Norman will host OKC Capitol Hill in the playoffs.

14. Moore (16-5); last week (14)

Moore finished third in its district, but currently is on a 12-game winning streak. Its most recent wins come over Mustang and Putnam City North, both by single digits. Moore will begin its playoff journey against OKC Northwest Classen.

15. Edmond Memorial (15-7); last week (10)

The Bulldogs beat Enid last week, but lost to Tulsa Union to finish third in their district. Their schedule has been tough, but tough schedules prepare teams for the playoffs. The Bulldogs will play Stillwater in the first round.

16. Tulsa Holland Hall (19-3); last week (18)

The Dutch are district champions and have looked great since their loss to Edison Prep in late January. Since then, Tulsa Holland Hall has won six games in a row and will host Pryor in the playoffs next week.

17. Bixby (14-9); last week (19)

The Spartans seem to have snapped out of their slump, as they beat Muskogee last week and won on the road at Broken Arrow, 57-53. Bixby finished third in their district and will play Putnam City next week in the playoffs.

18. Broken Arrow (16-7); last week (16)

With a huge 24-point win over Jenks last week, it makes sense to put the Tigers ahead of Jenks, but the Tigers lost to Bixby last week. Despite all the chaos, Broken Arrow finishes second in its district and will play Bartlesville in the first round of the playoffs.

19. Jenks (14-9); last week (17)

The Trojans have lost two games in a row. Last week, they were routed by Broken Arrow and suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss at Choctaw. Jenks finished fourth in its district and will play Enid in the first round of the playoffs.

20. Guthrie (20-3); last week (23)

The Blue Jays finished second in their district with a huge 46-43 win over OKC Crossings Christian. Nate Benford made free throws to win the game. Guthrie will play Guymon in the playoffs next week.

21. Oklahoma Christian School (20-2); last week (21)

The Saints finished the regular season with an impressive 73-46 win at Bethany. Luke Gray scored 30 points and was 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Oklahoma Christian School will begin its playoff next week, as the Saints have a bye in district play. The Saints will play the winner of Lindsay or Comanche.

22. Calumet (26-0); last week (21)

Calumet began its playoff run with a huge win against Mulhall-Orlando, 71-35, and will play Dover Thursday in the regional semifinals. Jared Reese, the former Kingfisher coach, is at Dover, so that should be an excellent matchup.

23. El Reno (17-5); last week (23)

El Reno finished fourth in a tough district, but beat a tough Shawnee team, 69-65, to finish the regular season. The Indians will begin their playoff run against OKC Santa Fe South next week.

24. Pocola (22-1); last week (20)

Pocola stumbled last week against Idabel, but bounced back by beating Heavener, 83-55. Pocola will begin its playoff run Saturday when the Indians host Wilburton. Pocola has beaten Wilburton twice this season.

25. Tulsa Victory Christian (18-4); last week (not ranked)

Victory Christian has been battle-tested, but closed the regular season on a three-game win streak against all private schools. The Conquerors will play Perry Saturday in their first playoff game.
