Oregon high school track and field's top weekly, season marks for 2022 — including a state record set this week

Oregon City senior Harley Daniel had fought a cold all week as she arrived at Pioneer Memorial Stadium on Wednesday for a four-team Three Rivers League home meet.
She ran into sprints coach Christina Whitney and expressed her concerns that she wasn’t feeling her best and wasn’t sure how well she’d run.
“She just told me to run my race,” Daniel said Sunday evening. “She said to do my best even though I wasn’t feeling my best.”
Daniel’s best turned out to be the best that any Oregon girl has ever run the 300-meter hurdles, breaking Janelle Joy’s 21-year-old state record with a 42.23-second performance that moved her to No. 15 on the national list this season.
She felt she started the race slower than usual, “but as soon as I processed that, that’s when I kicked into gear,” Daniel said. “I usually feel like I slow down on the last hurdle, but that day, I tried to finish faster. I ran through that last hurdle and told myself to keep pushing hard.”
However, because the visual display for the timing display wasn’t working, it wasn’t until Daniel was about to exit the stadium that she heard she’d surpassed Joy’s 42.58 from 2001 when she ran at Milwaukie.
“We were standing in a circle, ready to leave, when my coach asked if they had the time,” the University of Utah signee said. “My mom started screaming. I was just super excited.”
Daniel also ran a legal personal-best 14.21 to win the 100 hurdles, moving her to No. 4 on the all-time state list.
With the Three Rivers district meet on tap this week at Pioneer Memorial Stadium and, barring disaster, the OSAA 6A state championships the following week at Hayward Field, Daniel’s goals have now changed a bit.
While the 100 hurdles state record of 13.57 seconds might be a reach, Daniel would like to become the second Oregon girl to break 14 seconds as well as go sub-42 in the 300s.
“That would be insane to me,” she said. “It would prove that I’d put in a lot of hard work, and it had paid off. It would be amazing if I could do that.”
