The Oregon high school football season is scheduled to begin Thursday, Aug. 31 — 73 days from today. As we count down the days until kickoff, SBLive Oregon will give you one significant number per day.

73

Lebanon in 2022 is the only Class 5A or 6A team to have reported two 73-yard running plays in one season over the past five years.

In Week 4, Darius Freeman had a 73-yard run in Lebanon’s 42-39 win at Corvallis. Freeman rushed for two touchdowns in that game, but the 73-yarder wasn’t among them.

In Week 9, Wyatt Wessel ran for a 73-yard touchdown to finish the scoring in Lebanon’s 41-20 win over No. 5 Silverton. That touchdown — one of Wessel’s two in the game — helped Lebanon end the season on a two-game winning streak.

Lincoln’s Nick Ostmo is the only player in the past five years with two runs of 73 yards in the same season. He achieved that feat in Week 7 and Week 9 of 2018, helping the Cardinals of Southwest Portland defeat Jefferson of North Portland and Grant of Northeast Portland.

Those 73-yard runs weren’t Ostmo’s longest scoring runs of 2018. He also scored on runs of 75 and 87 yards.
