Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Oregon High School Team of the Week for Oct. 2-8 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers. 

Read through the nominees and cast your vote. Voting will conclude Sunday at 11:59 p.m.

Banks football

The Braves picked up a 21-14 victory over Kennedy in a Class 3A Special District 1 showdown played at Kennedy High School in Mt. Angel. Senior quarterback Kade Long helped lead Banks to the victory, completing 12 of 22 passes for 202 yards while also rushing for 89 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries.

Barlow girls soccer

The Bruins got off to a roaring start in Mt. Hood Conference play, opening their conference slate with a 6-0 home win over Gresham, followed by a 9-0 victory at Reynolds. The two wins give Barlow sole possession of first place in the conference standings at 2-0, while upping the Bruins’ overall mark to 5-4-1. Nine different Barlow players scored at least one goal in the win at Reynolds, with freshman forward Kylie Asher and senior midfielder Joselyn De Los Santos each scoring twice.

Central Catholic boys cross country

The Rams turned in an impressive performance in running to victory at the Mt. Hood Conference Mid-season meet, held at Barlow High School. Central Catholic took first place in the team standings at the event with a score of 21 points. Nelson was second at 50. The Rams also had the top three individual finishers in the race. Central Catholic junior Finn Briscoe ran to victory with a time of 16 minutes, 51.3 seconds for the 5,000-meter race. He was followed by Central Catholic junior Jack Canaday, at 17:08.8, and freshman Kaiji Alleman, at 17:20.8.

Central Catholic girls cross country

The Rams showed their speed, taking first place at the Mt. Hood Conference Mid-season meet, held at Barlow High School. Central Catholic topped the team standings at the event with a score of 30 points. Sandy was second with 47 points. Senior Zoe Rector led the way for the Rams at the meet, running to third place in the individual standings, with her time of 21 minutes, 23.8 seconds for the 5,000-meter course.

Corvallis boys soccer

The Spartans triumphed 2-1 at Woodburn and followed that up with a 4-0 home victory over Lebanon to move to 2-0-1 in Mid-Willamette Conference play, while also staying unbeaten on the season at 7-0-2.

Crane volleyball

The Mustangs won all three of their matches at the Damascus Tournament, beating North Clackamas Christian 25-15, 25-21, Joseph 17-25, 25-11, 15-11, and then finishing up with a 25-15, 25-21 win over Umpqua Valley Christian. With the three wins, Crane, which leads the High Desert League at 6-0, improved to 25-2 on the season.

Dayton football

The Pirates, in a battle of unbeaten teams, notched a 36-12 win over Scio in a Class 3A Special District 2 showdown played at Dayton High School. Senior running back Zach Smith ran for 184 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries for Dayton in the victory.

Jefferson boys cross country

The Democrats edged Sheldon to claim the team victory at The Harrier Classic, held at Bryant Park in Albany. Jefferson had a team score of 141 points to take first place at the 26-team event. The Irish was second at 145. Senior Sam Roy led the Democrats’ strong pack of runners, finishing in 10th place individually, with a time of 16 minutes, 2.8 seconds for the 5,000-meter course.

Lincoln girls cross country

The Cardinals took first place in the elite division at the Nike – Hole in the Wall XC Invitational, held at Lakewood (Wash.) High School. Lincoln topped the 21-team field with a score of 62 points. Jesuit was second at 94. Freshman Ellery Lincoln led the way for the Cardinals, running to third place individually, with a time of 17 minutes, 33.6 seconds for the 5,000-meter race.

Marist Catholic girls soccer

The Spartans defeated Cottage Grove 8-0 and North Bend 6-0 to improve to 11-0. The team also now has a 27-match winning streak, going back to the 2022 season. A key to perfect record this season looks to be the defense, which now has seven shutouts. That group includes goalkeepers Emily Meigs and Nev Ficek, defenders Kate Firth, Piper Paslay, Sadey Woodrum, Gina Schroffner and Emma Hart and defensive midfielders Ella Braunger and Toni Sherman.

Marist Catholic volleyball

The Spartans defeated Banks 25-12, 25-15, Warrenton 25-8, 25-12, and then they bested Corbett 25-16, 25-18 in the championship match to claim the title at the Seaside Tournament. With the three wins, Marist Catholic upped its season record to 17-1. Junior middle blocker Avy Roundy had a total of 30 kills and six blocks at the tournament to help the Spartans claim the crown.

McMinnville girls cross country

The Grizzlies triumphed at the Flat & Fast Invitational, held at Joe Dancer Park in McMinnville. The host squad took first place in the seven-team event with a score of 49 points. Hudson’s Bay, Wash., was second at 74. The Grizzlies also boasted the top two individual finishers in the 5,000-meter race in senior Charlotte Terry, who had a winning time of 20 minutes, 26.4 seconds, and junior Yemi Rue, who was second at 20:40.6.

McNary boys cross country

The Celtics edged West Salem to claim victory at the CVC District Preview meet, held at Oak Knoll Golf Course. McNary had a score of 35 points to take first place. The Titans were second at 38. Senior Cain Duncan led the way for the Celtics, running to second place individually, with a time of 16 minutes, 8.63 seconds for the 5,000-meter race.

North Medford volleyball

The Black Tornado scored a 25-13, 25-14, 25-19 win over rival South Medford in a Southwest Conference match played at North Medford High School. The victory gave the Black Tornado its first season series sweep against the Panthers since 2019. Junior outside hitter Mackenzie Running had 13 aces, nine digs and five kills to help North Medford get the win.

Pacific/Bandon boys soccer

The Pirates won 9-1 at South Umpqua and they bested Douglas 8-0 to improve to a perfect 8-0 in Class 3A/2A/1A Special District 4 play, while also moving to 9-1 on the season. Senior Dalton Speers scored five goals for Pacific/Bandon in the victory at Douglas.

Phoenix boys soccer

The Pirates notched a 2-1 win over Henley, which came into the match as ranked No. 1 in the OSAA Class 4A rankings, in a Skyline Conference match played at Phoenix High School. Senior midfielder Tanner Morris scored both of the Pirates’ goals in the victory.

Santiam Christian boys soccer

With first place in the standings at stake, the Eagles soared to a 3-1 win at Creswell in a Class 3A/2A/1A showdown. Santiam Christian claimed first place in the district standings at 4-0-1 with the win. Creswell moved to 4-1 with the setback. Junior Max David had a pair of first-half goals to lead the way for the Eagles in the key win.

Sherwood football

The Bowmen scored a 5-0 win at McMinnville in a Pacific Conference game, marking their fifth straight shutout on the season. In the game, which including a running clock for the entire second half, Sherwood allowed the Grizzlies just 70 yards on 38 offensive plays. Bowmen receiver/safety Evan Morris helped lead the way in the victory with three catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns on offense and an interception on defense.

Valley Catholic girls soccer

The Valiants scored a 6-0 home win over Trout Lake/Glenwood, and then they triumphed 7-0 at Corbett to improve to 5-0 in Class 3A/2A/1A Special District 1 play, while also moving to a perfect 10-0 on the season.

West Linn football

The Lions claimed sole possession of first place in the Three Rivers League in convincing style, getting a 37-0 win over Tualatin in a league showdown played at West Linn High School. West Linn junior quarterback Baird Gilroy passed for 212 yards and four touchdowns to lead the offense. Junior defensive end Baron Naone had four tackles for losses, including a pair of sacks, on the defensive side for the victors.

West Salem girls cross country

The Titans ran to victory at the CVC District Preview meet, held at Oak Knoll Golf Course. West Salem had a team score of 26 points to claim first place at the event. South Salem was second at 48. The Titans also had the individual winner of the meet in junior Gitte Lonigan, who triumphed in a time of 19 minutes, 15.98 seconds for the 5,000-meter course. She was followed by sophomore teammate Mia Rasca, who finished second with a mark of 19:44.35.

Wilsonville girls soccer

The Wildcats won 3-0 at La Salle Prep and then scored a 6-0 home victory over Milwaukie for their fifth straight shutout victory. With the two wins, Wilsonville moved to 4-0 in Northwest Oregon Conference matches, and to 8-2 on the season. Junior midfielder Tegan Waters had both a goal and an assist in the victory over Milwaukie.
