Ashland volleyball 

The Grizzlies snapped a 22-match Midwestern League losing streak by posting a 25-14, 23-25, 25-21, 25-9 victory at Springfield in a league contest. Senior middle blocker Flannery Lundgren helped lead Ashland to the long-awaited victory with 14 kills, three blocks and a pair of aces. Senior outside hitter Lainie Carter added 12 kills, five digs and two aces for the victors.

Banks boys cross country

The Braves triumphed at the Vernonia Invitational, held at Anderson Park. Banks had a score of 40 points to edge Hudson’s Bay, Wash., which was second at the 12-team event with a score of 55. Sophomore Alejandro Abnal led the way for the Braves, finishing fourth in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 16 minutes, 54.8 seconds.

Elkton football

The Elks scored a 40-20 home win over North Lake to move to 6-0 in Class 1A 6-man Special District 2 South games. Senior quarterback/defensive back Anthony Alimenti completed 20 of 29 passes for 263 yards and five touchdowns in addition to having 43 rushing yards and 12 tackles on defense in the victory.

Franklin boys cross country

The Lightning ran to victory in the varsity championship division at the third-annual Rose City Championship Invitational, held at Rose City Golf Course. Franklin had a score of 62 points to claim the top spot at the 20-team event. Summit was second at 95. Junior Zafer Courcelle was the top individual finisher for the Lightning, placing ninth with a time of 15 minutes, 21.1 seconds for the 5,000-meter race.

Grant girls soccer

The Generals posted back-to-back 5-0 victories, beating Ida B. Wells in a Portland Interscholastic League match played at Delta Park, followed by a nonleague victory at Tualatin. With the two wins, Grant improved to 3-0-1 in PIL contests and to 10-2-1 on the season. Paige Nakada and Kate Ratanaproeksa each scored two goals in the win over Ida B. Wells. Abbie Day had a hat trick in the victory against the Timberwolves.

Heppner girls cross country

The Mustangs galloped to victory at the Vernonia Invitational, held at Anderson Park. Heppner had 58 points to finish in first place. Banks was second with a score of 52. Sophomore Lily Nichols led the way for the Mustangs, placing second with a time of 18 minutes, 39.4 seconds. She was followed by senior teammate Arianna Worden, who ran to third with a mark of 20:20.1

Lake Oswego boys water polo

The Lakers triumphed 12-5 against rival Lakeridge in a Three Rivers League game played at the Lake Oswego Swim District pool. With the win, Lake Oswego improved to 6-0 in TRL contests and to 18-3 on the season. Laker sophomore Sullevan Kirtz topped all scorers in the game with four goals. LO junior Kane Saur added three.

The Lakers scored a 7-0 win at Tualatin then then bested Tigard 1-0 at home to move to 4-0 in Three Rivers League matches (8-2-1 overall), giving Lake Oswego sole possession of first place in the league standings. Senior forward Mairin Kelly scored a total of six goals for the Lakers in the two victories.

Lakeridge boys soccer

The Pacers scored an 8-0 win over Oregon City in a Three Rivers League match played at Pioneer Memorial Stadium to move to 2-0 in league play and to 10-1 on the season. It was also the second straight shutout victory, and fifth of the season, for Lakeridge, which has a first-year goalkeeper in senior Dane Whipple.

Lincoln girls cross country

The Cardinals triumphed in the varsity championship division at the third-annual Rose City Championship Invitational, held at Rose City Golf Course. Lincoln soared to victory with a score of 68 points at the 20-team event. Lakeridge was second with a score of 116. Freshman Ellery Lincoln led the way for the Cardinals, running to third place in the 5,000-meter race in a time of 17 minutes, 21.1 seconds.

Lost River football

The Pirates stayed perfect on the season, improving to 3-0 in Class 1A 8-man Special District 1 play, and to 6-0 on the season by posting a 45-14 win at Chiloquin in district play. Lost River senior Connor Dunlea accounted for five touchdowns, in five different ways – a punt return, an interception return, passing, rushing and receiving – in the victory.

Mazama football

The Vikings posted a 54-7 win over Klamath Union in the Canal Bowl rivalry game, played at Mazama High School. With the win, Mazama (4-0, 6-1) has now won the last 10 games of the series, and holds a 23-22 all-time lead in the series. Mazama senior quarterback Tyson Van Gastel had five first-half carries for 136 yards and three touchdowns in the victory.

Oregon City boys cross country

The Pioneers took first place at the Estacada Invitational, held at McIver Park. Oregon City triumphed at the 13-team event with a score of 32 points. Crook County was second at 42. Senior Adam White led the way for the Pioneers, winning the 5,000-meter race in a time of 16 minutes, 17.89 seconds.

Oregon City girls cross country

The Pioneers ran to victory at the Estacada Invitational, held at McIver Park. Oregon City had a score of 62 points to take first place at the 10-team event. The Dalles was second with a score of 80. Pioneers senior Lydia Dale was the individual winner of the 5,000-meter race with a time of 19 minutes, 16.99 seconds.

Pendleton boys soccer

The Buckaroos notched a 3-2 home win over defending state champion Ontario to move into first place in the Greater Oregon League at 3-1. The Tigers moved to 2-1-1 in league play with the loss. Senior Andre Lopez scored twice for Pendleton in the key win. Senior Kenneth Cook had the other goal.

Scappoose girls soccer

The Indians picked up their eighth straight win of the season, topping Seaside 5-0 in a Cowapa League match played at Scappoose High School. The victory gives Scappoose a 7-0 record in league play, and a season mark of 10-1. Junior forward Amy Vetsch scored a pair of goals in the victory.

Sheldon volleyball

The Irish posted a 17-25, 25-14, 25-12, 25-14 win at Roseburg to claim sole possession of first place in the Southwest Conference standings at 8-1, at that point. The Indians moved to 7-2 in conference play with the setback. Sophomore outside hitter/libero Yana Tuioti had 17 digs and 12 kills for Sheldon in the victory. Senior middle blocker Gracee Robertson added 12 kills and five blocks.

Sutherlin girls soccer

The Bulldogs kept a hold of first place in the Class 3A/2A/1A Special District 4 standings, but it easy. Sutherlin rallied from a 1-0 deficit, with senior Paige Edmonson scoring on a penalty kick in the 54th minute, to earn a 1-1 tie with powerhouse North Valley in a match played at Sutherlin. With the win, the Bulldogs moved to 10-1-1 in District 4 play, while North Valley moved to 9-0-2.

Thurston volleyball

The Colts swept North Eugene 25-16, 25-6, 25-19 to improve to a perfect 9-0 in Midwestern League contests, while also moving to 16-4 on the season. Senior Julia Cook had 10 kills and five aces for Thurston in the victory.

Umpqua Valley Christian volleyball

The Monarchs scored a 25-9, 25-10, 25-5 home victory against Milo Adventist to clinch the Skyline League regular season title. Umpqua Valley Christian improved to a perfect 11-0 in league matches, and to 17-2 on the season, with the victory. Senior setter/outside hitter Zoey Pappas had nine kills in the win. Senior Amy Pappas had 21 assists.

Union boys cross country

The Bobcats ran to victory at the FootRace to Valhalla, held at Umatilla High School. Union had a team score of 33 points to win the event. Enterprise was second with a score of 53. Union senior Eli Williams won the 5,000-meter race in a time of 16 minutes, 24.4 seconds.

West Linn football

The Lions moved to 3-0 in Three Rivers League play, and to 7-0 on the season, by running to a 53-14 win at Tigard in a league contest. West Linn junior quarterback Baird Gilroy, playing in just the first half, passed for 316 yards and four touchdowns. Junior receiver Wyatt Smiley had 105 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Senior safety/receiver Hunter Haines had two interceptions, including one that went for a touchdown, and a receiving TD.
