Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Oregon High School Team of the Week for Nov. 27-Dec. 3 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers. 

Read through the nominees and cast your vote. Voting will conclude Sunday at 11:59 p.m.

Baker boys basketball 

The Bulldogs went 3-0 to claim the championship at the Capital Tournament at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho. Baker opened the tournament with a 61-28 win over Borah, Idaho. The Bulldogs then topped Post Falls, Idaho, 53-51. In the title game, Baker ran to a 79-68 win against the host team, Capital, Idaho. 

Bend girls wrestling

The Lava Bears battled their way to the championship at the 2023 WMNS Adrian Irwin/COWO Tournament at Caldera High School. Bend finished in first place at the 15-team event with 120 points. Culver placed second with 92. Delilah Richards helped lead the way for the Lava Bears, as she was the tournament champion in the 114-124 pound weight class.

Cleveland girls basketball

The Warriors won the championship at the Lady Mavs Winter Classic at Mountainside High School. Cleveland opened the tournament with a 57-46 win over Barlow, with sophomore guard Addy Huss having 17 points and 11 rebounds. The Warriors then bested McNary 58-38 in the tournament title tilt, with Huss scoring 13 points.

Dallas wrestling

The Dragons won the team title at the Willie Wilkinson Memorial Tournament at Glide High School. Dallas took first place in the 14-team tournament with 204 points. Toledo was second with 171. Thomas Loughary (106 pounds) and Joseph Johnson (126) won individual championships for the Dragons.

Enterprise wrestling

The Outlaws successfully defended their home mats, claiming the championship at the Enterprise Kick Off tournament. The Outlaws had a team score of 74.5 points to top the six-team field. Pine Eagle was second at 54.5.

Gaston boys basketball

The Greyhounds opened the season by notching a 76-45 home win over Lyle/Wishram, snapping their 41-game losing streak. Gaston’s previous win was a 43-34 victory over Neah-Kah-Nie in the final game of the 2021 campaign.

Harrisburg wrestling

The Eagles soared to an impressive victory at the Deven Dawson Memorial Tournament at Harrisburg High School. The Eagles took the top spot at the 31-team tournament with 335 points. Banks was second with 138.5. The Eagles had eight boys individual champions in Andre Donayri (113 pounds), PJ Machaceck (120), Luke Cheek (126), Jackson Peterman (132), Nephi Heakin (157), Brody Buzzard (175), Devin Martin (190) and Hunter Langham (285) and two girls individual champions in Lily Ridgley (125) and Hannah Henderson (170).

Hermiston girls wrestling

The Bulldogs rallied to earn a 42-39 win at Sunnyside, Wash., in a season-opening dual match. Tuta Sepeni secured the victory for Hermiston, winning the decisive 235-pound match by fall in a time of 1 minute and 27 seconds.

Illinois Valley wrestling

The Cougars finished in first place at the Dan Vidlak Invitational at Hidden Valley High School. Illinois Valley took the top spot in the 13-team event with 235.5 points. South Medford was second with 205. The Cougars crowned five individual champions at the tournament in James Conn (106 pounds), Mike Miller (113), Micah Martinho (120), Talen Schaffer (132) and Ryan Griffin (157).

Lincoln boys basketball

The Cardinals opened their season with a road trip to the southern part of the state and came back with a couple of impressive victories. Lincoln posted a 65-58 win at Grants Pass behind senior Tanner Overby’s 41 points. The Cardinals then won 67-58 at South Medford, with Overby scoring 22 points.

McKay girls basketball

The Royal Scots got off to a roaring start to the season, defeating North Salem 70-14 at McKay High School and following with a 59-17 victory at Reynolds in nonleague play. Junior guard Patricia Mike had totals of 33 points, 15 steals and nine assists in the two contests.

McKay girls wrestling

The Royal Scots battled their way to the championship at the Perry Burlison Girls Invitational at Cascade High School. McKay topped the 23-team field with 200 points. Dallas was second with 189. McKay had two individual champions at the tournament in Sharlyn Gonzalez (100 pounds) and Stephanie Valdovinos (140).

Redmond wrestling

The Panthers grappled their way to first place in the team standings at the Tyrone S. Woods Memorial Tournament at Oregon City High School. Redmond had 180.5 points to top the 22-team field. Camas, Wash., was second with 140. The Panthers had two individual champions in Billy Jackson (132 pounds) and Steven Cassell (138).

Southridge boys basketball

The Skyhawks kept the title at home as they triumphed at the Southridge Tournament. The Skyhawks opened the tournament with a 95-44 win over Franklin behind senior Carter Fortune’s 25 points. The host team then bested Oregon City 71-53 in the championship contest, with Fortune having 19 points.

Sheldon girls basketball

The Irish defended the home court as they triumphed at the Luke Roth Showcase at Sheldon High School. The Irish opened the tournament with a 62-45 win over Newberg behind senior Kinley Pappas’ 19 points and 10 rebounds. In the title tilt, Sheldon topped West Albany 58-42.

South Umpqua girls basketball

The Lancers kept the title at home as they triumphed at the Lancers Tournament at South Umpqua High School. The Lancers opened tournament play with a 46-30 win over Illinois Valley. In the tournament title contest, South Umpqua topped Rogue River 52-34 behind sophomore Danika Richardson’s 18 points and 15 rebounds.

Springfield girls basketball

The defending Class 5A state champions opened their season by running to a 67-37 win over Canby in a nonleague game at Springfield High School. Senior Danaeja Romero-Ah Sam led the way for the Millers with 20 points, seven assists and five steals. Junior Diamond Wright and sophomore Kimora Wright each had 10 rebounds.

Sunset boys basketball

The Apollos claimed the championship at the Bill Gabel Invitational at Tigard High School. Junior Kayin Turner scored 25 points for Sunset in a 73-54 first-round win over Tigard. The Apollos bested Cleveland 62-57 in the tournament title tilt, with Turner scoring 21 points.

Thurston girls wrestling

The Colts powered their way to the top spot at the Kelly Bledsoe Invitational at Rainier High School. Thurston topped the 19-team field with 220 points. St. Helens finished second with 92. The Colts had six individual champions in Eily Asher (100 pounds), Rubie Winterburn (110), Kassidy Hadden (130), Kristal Zamora (145), Izabella Castlebery (155) and Katelyn Dow (190). 

Wilsonville boys basketball

The Wildcats went 3-0, posting victories against Ashland, Redmond and North Marion, to claim the championship at the Holiday Inn Wilsonville Invitational Tournament at Wilsonville High School. Wilsonville senior Kallen Gutridge was named the tournament Most Valuable Player. He was joined on the all-tournament team by senior teammate Kyle Counts.
