Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Oregon High School Team of the Week for Jan. 1-7 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers.

Baker boys basketball

The Bulldogs posted a 75-41 win at Madras and a 79-53 victory at Crook County in nonleague games to improve to 16-0. Junior Isaiah Jones led the way for Baker in the win at Madras with 21 points. Senior Paul Hobson, sophomore Rasean Jones and senior Hudson Spike each tallied 14 points in the victory at Crook County.

Canby wrestling

The Cougars turned in a strong performance in winning the championship at the MHS Your Space Storage Invite at McMinnville High School. The Cougars claimed the top spot at the 17-team event with 389.5 points. W.F. West, Wash., was second with 266.5. The Cougars crowned four individual champions in Trey Smith (106 pounds), Craig Williams (132), Matthew Young (144) and Jackson Doman (215).

Cascade Christian girls basketball

The Challengers opened Far West League play with a 44-35 win at Brookings-Harbor, giving them their first win against the Bruins since the 2019-20 season. They triumphed 26-18 at North Valley, making them 2-0 in league play for the first time since the 2017-18 season. Junior Isabel McCauley had a total of 33 points, 14 rebounds and 10 steals for Cascade Christian in the two victories.

Centennial wrestling

The Eagles soared to victory at the two-day Don York Invitational at Cleveland High School. Centennial took the top spot at the 14-team tournament with 328 points. Liberty finished second with 287.5. Ilya Yurko won an individual title at 175 pounds, and Dale Farness was first at 285 to help the Eagles claim the team crown.

Central Catholic boys basketball

The Rams, who are ranked No. 1 in the latest Class 6A coaches poll, fought off South Medford to get a 71-68 overtime victory over the Panthers in a nonleague game at Central Catholic High School. Central Catholic junior Duce Paschal tallied a game-high 22 points and was 6 for 6 from the line in overtime to help the Rams notch the victory.

Crater girls basketball

The Comets opened Midwestern League play by notching a 59-49 win over defending Class 5A state champion Springfield at Crater High School. With the win, its eighth in a row, Crater improved to 11-1. Junior center Lydia Traore had 18 points and 11 rebounds to help lead the Comets to the victory.

Enterprise wrestling

The Outlaws ruled at the Dayton Invitational at Dayton High School. Enterprise had 159 points to take first place in the 12-team event. Nyssa took second place with 148. The Outlaws had four individual champions in James Royce (113 pounds), Pearce Schnetzky (150), Ashtyn Irwin (165) and Gunnar McDowell (215).

Gervais boys basketball

The Cougars had a big week, getting a 70-32 home win over Culver in a Tri-River Conference opener and getting a 56-42 victory at Blanchet Christian to move to 2-0 in conference play and 7-0 overall.

Hillsboro girls wrestling

The Spartans topped Centennial 53-30 in a Northwest Oregon Conference dual match at Hillsboro High School. Hillsboro got victories by fall from Gracianna Strickland (125 pounds), Nelly Lozano (135), Melani Monckton (140), Joanna Interian (17) and Kaydence Echeverria (190).

Jefferson girls basketball

The Democrats ended Benson’s Portland Interscholastic League win streak at 48 games, topping the Techsters 65-60 at Franklin High School as part of the PIL Showcase. Junior Chauncey Andersen scored 25 points, and junior Abrianna Lawrence added 23 to lead the way for Jefferson (9-1, 2-0).

Lowell wrestling

The Devils triumphed at the King of the Hill Invitational at Pleasant Hill High School. Lowell had 152 points to take first place at the 17-team event. Siuslaw was second with 136. The Devils crowned three individual champions in Levi Stewart (106 pounds), Harley Hardison (126) and David Finch (285).

New Hope Christian girls basketball

The Warriors posted a 48-16 home win over Elkton in a Skyline League opener to improve to 12-0. Junior guard Ava Barnett scored a game-high 22 points, and junior wing/guard Jordan Zumhofe added 19.

North Medford girls wrestling

The Black Tornado turned in a strong performance in triumphing at the Hunter Hoeptner Memorial tournament at Eagle Point High School. North Medford finished in first place at the nine-team event with 134 points. Illinois Valley was second with 63. North Medford had six individual champions in Skyler Hall (105-110 pounds), Hailey Rosamond (120-125), Sadie Hall (130-135), Kiana Patrick (140), Isabella Jaime (155) and Lalaine Chan (190).

Nyssa girls wrestling

The Bulldogs edged the host team to win the championship at the Dayton Invitational at Dayton High School. Nyssa took first place at the 12-team tournament with 84 points. Dayton was second with 78. Kiera DeLeon won an individual title at 130 pounds, and Alexandra Munoz-Murillo triumphed at 140-145 to help the Bulldogs claim the team crown.

Regis boys basketball

The Rams emerged victorious in a battle of unbeaten teams, downing Western Christian 63-58 in a Tri-River Conference game at Western Christian High School. Regis improved to 11-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Western Christian moved to 9-1 and 1-1. Junior Isaiah Koehnke scored 23 points for the Rams, and senior Julius Pokorny had 22.

Reynolds boys basketball

The Raiders snapped a 25-game losing streak in dramatic style, getting a 66-63 overtime win over Forest Grove in a nonleague game at Reynolds High School. Sophomore post Eddie Szabatin had 18 points and 13 rebounds. Reynolds’ losing streak started with a 71-42 setback at Forest Grove on Jan. 6, 2023.

Roosevelt boy basketball

The Roughriders gained sole possession of first place in the Portland Interscholastic League, at 3-0, by notching a 76-63 win over Cleveland at Franklin High School as part of the PIL Showcase. Senior guard Terrence Hill Jr. helped lead Roosevelt to the victory, its 10th in a row, with 26 points, six assists and six rebounds.

Roseburg wrestling

Roseburg dominated a Southwest Conference double dual match, beating South Eugene 76-6 and Willamette 84-0 at Roseburg High School. Blake Jeffers (144 pounds) and Charlie Jones (165) each won both of their matches by fall.

South Albany girls basketball

The RedHawks notched a 48-43 win over Central and followed with a 73-40 victory against McKay in Mid-Willamette Conference games at South Albany High School. South Albany improved to 3-0 in conference play and 8-2 overall. Sophomore Taylor Donaldson had totals of 47 points and 29 rebounds for the RedHawks in the two wins.

South Medford girls swimming

The Panthers edged rival North Medford 95-82 in a Southwest Conference dual meet at the newly opened Rogue Credit Union Community Complex. Jazmin Elwood won the 200-yard individual medley and 100 butterfly, and Ellie Carson triumphed in the 200 and 500 freestyle to help South Medford get the team victory.

Sutherlin girls basketball

The Bulldogs picked up their ninth consecutive win, downing Coquille 58-31 in a Far West League game at Sutherlin High School. Sutherlin moved to 10-1 overall and 2-0 in league play. Junior forward Addyson Clark had 22 points and 13 rebounds. Sutherlin made it 10 wins in a row with a 45-37 victory at Marshfield.

Sweet Home girls wrestling

The Huskies won the title at the Pape Linn County Championships at Santiam High School. Sweet Home took first place at the eight-team event with 136 points. West Albany was second with 89. The Huskies had three individual champions in Bailey Chafin (125 pounds), Lydia Wright (135) and Kaylene Zajic (145).

The Huskies fought their way to the championship at the Pape Linn County Championships at Santiam High School. Sweet Home triumphed at the eight-team event with 291 points, edging second-place Harrison, which had 284.5. The Huskies had six individual champions in Jesse Landtroop (113 pounds), Tytus Hardee (120), Kyle Sieminski (126), Jayce Miller (132), Ryker Hartsook (165) and Ashton Swanson (175).

Tillamook girls wrestling

The Cheesemakers triumphed at the Southridge Invitational at Southridge High School. Tillamook had 143 points to claim first place at the 19-team tournament. Beaverton finished in second place with 127 points. Falsity Murphy Snyder won an individual title at 140 pounds to help the Cheesemakers claim the team championship.

West Albany boys swimming

The Bulldogs had first-place finishes in all 11 events as they bested Central and Dallas in a Mid-Willamette Conference meet at the Albany Community Pool. West Albany triumphed with 156 points. Central scored 35 points and Dallas had seven. Conner Dickerson won the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events, and Kyle Milburn triumphed in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke.

West Linn girls swimming

The Lions opened their Three Rivers League schedule by notching a 99.5-70.5 win over Lake Oswego at the Lake Oswego School District pool. Lauren Sexton triumphed in the 200-yard individual medley and 100 breaststroke, and Maeve DeYoung won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke races.
