Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Oregon High School Team of the Week for Jan. 22-28 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers.

Cascade Christian boys basketball

The Challengers shot an amazing 78-percent from the field, making 43 of their 55 attempts, in a 97-29 win over Glide in a Far West League contest at Cascade Christian High School. Senior center Austin Maurer, who didn’t miss a shot from the field, led the way with 28 points.

Corbett girls basketball

The Cardinals stayed perfect, moving to 15-0 overall and to 5-0 in Coastal Range League play, by recording a 53-45 win against Banks in a league showdown at Banks High School. Senior Ally Schimel helped lead Corbett to the victory with a game-high 20 points and four rebounds. The Cardinals then bested Neah-Kah-Nie 66-56 for their 16th consecutive win to start the season.

Creswell girls wrestling

The Bulldogs battled their way to the championship at the Cottage Grove Invitational at Cottage Grove High School. Creswell took first place at the 21-team event with 138 points. North Eugene was second with 118. Jennalyn Kruger won an individual title at 135 pounds, and Chantell Noffsinger triumphed at 135 to help lead the Bulldogs to the team crown.

Elkton boys basketball

The Elks claimed sole possession of first place in the Skyline League standings in dramatic fashion, topping North Douglas 78-73 in double overtime at North Douglas. Elkton improved to 7-0 in league play (11-5 overall), while North Douglas moved to 6-1 in league games. Junior Bodee Block had 32 points and 13 rebounds.

Forest Grove girls wrestling

The Vikings triumphed at the Colton Holly Girls Invitational at Wilsonville High School. Forest Grove took first place at the 13-team event with 159 points, edging second-place South Salem, which scored 152. The Vikings crowned four individual champions in Crystal Gonzalez Mendoza (110 pounds), Renae Cook (125), Kailea Takahashi (130) and Kennedy Blanton (140).

Jefferson (3A) girls basketball

The Lions kept one streak going while snapping another. Jefferson picked up its 16th consecutive victory while ending Amity’s PacWest Conference 25-game win streak by topping the Warriors 52-48 in a conference game at Jefferson High School. Junior guard Gretchen Olsen led the Lions with 28 points.

La Grande girls wrestling

The Tigers turned in an impressive performance in triumphing at the Hood River Valley Girls Invitational at Hood River Valley High School. La Grande claimed first place at the 38-team event with 289 points, outdistancing second-place McNary, which scored 171.5. Dora Galindo won a title at 105 pounds, and Paige Allen triumphed at 135.

Lakeridge boys basketball

The Pacers picked up their first victory in Three Rivers League play since the 2017-18 season, topping Tigard 58-50 in a league opener at Tigard High School. Senior Nick Ghetie led Lakeridge with 17 points.

Lakeridge girls skiing

The Pacers raced to victory at the Three Rivers League slalom event at Mt. Hood Meadows Skibowl. Lakeridge had a team time of 3 minutes, 15.44 seconds, to claim first place. Central Catholic was second in a time of 3:21.85. Jenna Nicholson finished second individually with her two-run time of 1:01.50.

Lincoln boys skiing

The Cardinals claimed victory at the Three Rivers League slalom race at Mt. Hood Meadows Skibowl. Lincoln took first place with a two-run total team time of 3 minutes, 13.68 seconds. Lake Oswego was a close second at 3:13.84. Cole Pickett finished in fourth place individually with his time of 1:03.51.

Marshfield wrestling

The Pirates claimed the championship at the Cottage Grove Invitational at Cottage Grove High School. Marshfield had a score of 285.5 points to place first at the 23-team event. Madras was second with 187. The Pirates crowned three individual champions in Garron Castro (106 pounds), Hadyn Widdicombe (113) and Aryan Wright (175).

McMinnville wrestling

The Grizzlies clawed their way to the championship at the Tualatin Invitational at Tualatin High School. McMinnville won the title with 308 points, edging second-place Sherwood, which scored 303. Jose Arenas won an individual championship at 138 pounds.

Mountain View girls basketball

The Cougars forged a tie atop the Intermountain Conference standings by notching a 79-52 win over previous conference-leading Redmond at Mountain View High School. The squads were tied for first place, both at 4-1 in conference play, after the contest. Senior guard Kasey Booster scored a game-high 34 points.

Newberg wrestling

The Tigers powered their way to the title at the Reser’s Tournament of Champions at Liberty High School. Newberg triumphed at the two-day, 25-team event with 224.5 points. La Grande took second place with 165.5. Gus Amerson won an individual title at 150 pounds.

North Douglas girls basketball

The Warriors notched a 68-46 win over previously unbeaten New Hope Christian in a Skyline League showdown at North Douglas. With the victory, their ninth in a row, the Warriors improved to 8-0 in league play (putting them in a tie with Umpqua Valley Christian for first place) and to 15-2 overall. Junior guard Brooklyn Cyr scored a game-high 27 points.

Pendleton wrestling

The Buckaroos won the championship at the Colton Holly Memorial event at Wilsonville High School. Pendleton triumphed at the 12-team tournament with 305.5 points. Centennial was second with 255. The Buckaroos had three individual champions in Cole Roy (132 pounds), Owen Golter (138) and Aidan Perkins (165).

Sherwood wrestling

The Bowmen swept a Pacific Conference four-way dual meet, topping Century 66-6, Forest Grove 38-33 and Glencoe 44-21 in matches held at Sherwood High School. Caden Burnett (106 pounds), Alex Cherry (126), Paolo Espinosa (150), Parker Fabrycki (157) and Skyler Randleman-Galvan (285) each went 3-0, with Fabrycki winning all three of his bouts by fall.

South Medford girls basketball

The Panthers claimed sole possession of first place in the Southwest Conference standings by notching a 45-32 win over Willamette in a showdown between two of the state’s top teams at South Medford High School. With the win, their 10th in a row, the Panthers moved to 5-0 in conference play and to 14-3 overall. Junior guard Sara Schmerbach had 16 points, five rebounds and three assists.

St. Helens wrestling

The Lions battled their way to the championship at the Joe Stewart Invitational at Putnam High School. St. Helens triumphed at the 14-team event with 195.5 points. McDaniel finished second with 175.5. Carson Jackson claimed a title at 126 pounds.

West Linn girls basketball

The Lions had a huge week in Three Rivers League play, winning 57-28 at Lakeridge, triumphing 52-48 in overtime at Tualatin and besting Lake Oswego 62-31 to claim sole possession of first place in the league standings at 4-0 (11-5 overall). Sophomore Reese Jordan scored a total of 73 points in the three wins, including a 30-point outburst against Lake Oswego. Freshman Kaylor Buse scored 56 points in the three games. Sophomore Ayla Arnold had eight points and 10 rebounds against Lake Oswego.

Westview girls wrestling

The Wildcats claimed the championship at the Tualatin Girls Invitational at Tualatin High School. Westview took first place at the 15-team event with 117 points, edging second-place Aloha, which had 111. The Wildcats had three individual champions in AbbyQuinn Skelding (130 pounds), Paige Carrier (135) and Paula Acosta (190).

Willamina boys and girls wrestling

The Bulldogs won the championship at the Golden Yam Challenge, hosted by Yamhill-Carlton. Willamina took first place at the 15-team tournament with 293 points. North Marion was second with 208. The Willamina boys had seven individual champions in Kisor Savage (120 pounds), Adoniyah Stanton (132), Kaden Konovalov (150), Orrin Reid (157), Jordan Brace (175), Landon Risseeuw (19) and Rhyne Nelson (285). For the Willamina girls, Zoe Brewer won a crown at 100.

Wilsonville boys basketball

The Wildcats picked up their seventh consecutive victory, topping Canby 67-49 in a Northwest Oregon Conference game at Canby High School. Wilsonville improved to 6-0 in conference play and to 12-3 overall. Senior Kallen Gutridge had 27 points.
