Marcelles Williams, nation's No. 5 cornerback, blown away by Alabama offer; Colorado, Washington visits scheduled

St. John Bosco (California) cornerback Marcelles Williams plans to visit Colorado and Washington this spring

After winning a high school football national championship this fall, it's not surprising that St. John Bosco (California) is loaded with national recruits.

One such player is class of 2024 star Marcelles Williams, the nation's No. 5 cornerback, who has already racked up more than 30 scholarship offers.

On Thursday, however, the 6-foot, 176-pound defensive back received a very notable scholarship from the Alabama Crimson Tide:

Even for a recruit as savvy as Williams, the experience of receiving an Alabama offer was a bit overwhelming.

"Coach Holmon Wiggins had told me while we were on the phone and I was just like, ' Wow, 'Bama?' "

As to why the Alabama offer made such an impact, the answer was self-explanatory.

"I mean, everybody when they think of winning and development 'Bama (is) always going to be the first thing to come to mind," he said.

Because of how recent the offer came, Williams has yet to set a visit to Tuscaloosa, but does have a pair of Pac-12 visits set for this spring.

He intends to take trips to both Washington and Colorado, as well as Oklahoma (March 25).

"Washington, I feel like they're back where they usually are, especially after having a whole new staff and having a really impressive year," he said.

The St. John Bosco star's interest in Colorado stems from its recent coaching hire.

"My Colorado (interest) is because of Deion Sanders," Williams said. "He’s always been my idol and favorite player."

It's still too early to say where the dynamic cornerback will end up, but he's clearly got options, some of which he'll have time to explore as soon as next month.
